  1. Huh thanks for letting me know. I will check that out before I buy any cameras.
  2. Shouldn't there be an option to increase the bitrate in that case? Would a VMS like Blue Iris have options for that or any software on the cameras themselves?
  3. Ah okay thanks for the explanation on the sas expander. I am okay with going over budget a bit as long as it is after than the initial purchase. I mainly want to figure out the setup and get all the wiring done for now and will only purchase a handful of drives and cameras at the start.
  4. Yes that is total bitrate. It varies quite a bit depending on the compression but even high quality only goes up to around 900 mbit. My budget is between 4000 and 5000 but I plan to buy the drives and cameras a couple at a time. I am just trying to make sure I have the capacity for the whole thing. As for the 24 bay case I am probably going to go with that I just need to figure what what would fit my needs. What is the sas expander for though?
  5. Ah okay. Thanks I had no idea. So from what I could find out the bitrate should be below 500 Mbps as long as it is H.264 Average quality. Though I have no idea how fast the drives could record in a raid setup.
  6. I honestly don't know how to do that calculation on the total bitrate. How would that affect my hardware choices?
  7. Good thought on the power. I haven't decided on the cameras yet although most seem fairly similar. It's not absolutely necessary to have 4K cameras but the cost is about the same for the cameras I saw so I would like to future proof if possible. Would the server run or support raid by default or is that something I would need to add? I would like some redundancy regardless of the resolution of the cameras.
  8. I am setting up a IP security Camera System for the first time wanted to see if anyone has advice on my setup. Here is what I had in mind (Nothing has been bought yet). -11 4K IP poe Security Cameras recording 24/7 at 30 fps; H.264 -The cameras will be connected over either cat5e or cat6 to a gigabit POE switch. Amazon link to the switch I am looking at. -The switch plugging into a PC running Windows 10 for Blue Iris to manage my cameras -This is my main point of concern right now. I am looking for about 60 days of footage eventually and for this it seems I will need about 200 TB of storage. From what I could find storing 20 10TB drives in a PC case in raid isn't the best idea so I was looking into a DAS hooked up to the PC running Blue Iris. My question is this a good idea and if so what DAS should I get for that amount of storage? Or is my setup horribly misguided?
  9. Oh okay. That makes more sense. The place I want to install these cameras is only a 2600 sq ft building. Although I do recognize how easy it would be to run over the 4000 dollar limit. Thanks for the input.
  10. wow. I mean why would it get anywhere near that high? The cameras should cost under 200 each although that can depend on the quality. My main concern was getting it hooked up to a NVR with enough storage.
  11. Yeah I have found that out in all this. I am just trying to figure out how to hook up a bunch of drives (probably in some kind of raid) to a DVR or software like blue iris.
  12. It's a bit hard to tell from their website but it looks like they have very limited local storage and otherwise you need cloud storage.
  13. Looks interesting although do they have the support for the kind of local storage I need? It looks like they are limited to a max of 5 TB.
