P1X3 got a reaction from TidaLWaveZ in What do you use to explore NTFS permissions?
I have been dealing with folder redirection setup that is having odd permission issues. The range of issues is pretty wide, starting from owner not having permissions while other account does, inheritance on some is not applied, some users can't take back ownership or change permissions even though they should be able to based on permissions. Those folders are also replicated across three different servers. Anyhow, what I am after is a tool that could nicely show permissions, have some sort of filtering, and show it all in a nice way. NTFS permissions explorer so to speak. I have already found some, but if anyone has a favorite to vouch in for now is your time.

Seems I have left out the most important info.

P1X3 reacted to Wombo in Can't quite grasp how VLAN tagging and trunking works
You should only have 1 native untagged VLAN and for security reasons you should try and make this an unused VLAN.  I'm not sure if that screen cap is showing port status however the only links that should be trunks are the ones connecting your switches. Any ports that are not connecting switches and are not being used for inter-vlan routing should be access ports.

So I think you have the right idea overall here, just change your non-trunking ports (everything that isn't port 48) to access ports.

P1X3 got a reaction from Judahnator in Direct Host to Host network
This is sort-of what I was doing when needed a fast direct connection between two failover cluster nodes, but I used two additional ethernet ports available on the server.
It was pretty straight forward actually, other than needing to use crossover cable. Assign static ip (no gateway or dns) to both hosts from same but unused (by other interfaces) subnet.  Edit hosts file so that server1 looks for server2 it will go for direct connection instead of the one that is routed.

In my setup with file replication and sql high availability, packets communication between the servers is done using host-to-host connection. Of-course this is windows, but my assumption would be that debian would act similarly.

    Small updates on the project.
First of all three POE switches (with 4POE ports on each switch) are being replaced with a single 10/100 24-Port POE switch. There are plans to add more cameras at current location, and even more at the new location. I figured it is a good idea to invest in 24 port switch right away. Server cabinet was assembled, 48 port patch panel arrived, and some networking equipment was ordered. Now here is something a bit ridiculous. Occasionally there is a problem with some devices on the network, some devices (one or two) will simply lose all network connectivity until restart. After restart, another device(s) will do the same. I couldn't figure out why, but then realized that DHCP server on the router is leasing only 50 IP addresses. Surely, all 50 IP addresses are being leased, so I am waiting for the end of the workday to make that change to avoid router restarts during work-time.

    Ninja-edit (not really):
After increasing the amount of DHCP leases (from 50 to 100), the issues has seem gone away. I decided to take it a step further and setup a guest wifi network that is on separate subnet with no access to other subnets (AP Isolation and iptables rules). Of-course internet access is allowed. We'll see how this playsout

P1X3 got a reaction from IdeaStormer in My first "dead" SSD
About two years ago I put in a SSD drive into one of the server I was co-maintaining. The drive was used for system and database storage.
It wasn't heavy used, but as of couple days ago it is officially "dead."

It's kinda interesting how nothing can be written to it, and nothing can be deleted.

SSD showed no signs of degradation until couple days ago. System started acting up and froze, but everything seemed fine after restart. No log entries.
SMART shows that everything is fine as if this was lightly used SSD.

P.S. Don't ask me why value ssd was put into a server. It wasn't up to me.

I think AMD is pushing a single platform/standard for developing games.
If Mantle is a feature for next gen consoles and new graphics cards, then in theory console games should be playable on PC. Or at least require minor porting.
If I were working for AMD, I would try to push this idea through.

Now Steam BOX. If above said turns out to be true, then you can probably see how steam box plays out here.

I have tried Windows 8 on multiple occasions.
I had few minor issues which at the end of day seemed like a major flaw. Things looked not finished.

Now onto Windows 8.1. I have been using this for about a week now and I like it much more than Windows 8.
Start menu is back and it provides that comforting feeling. Metro UI or start menu is now much better. More customization and such.
Charms in 8.1 seem to work better, somehow.

I am liking Windows 8.1 so far, but shame on Windows 8!

    Here is what I think.

Install ssd on the system/laptop that you use the most.
You are going to install OCZ ssd onto your desktop. I assume it is your main desktop and you will use it the most.
How much do you use your second system? Maybe you wife.syster/family uses it often then I would install ssd there.

If your second desktop isn't used much then I would recommend to use 80gb ssd with laptop.
I too have older 80GB intel ssd in my 300$ laptop. It makes a lot of difference and makes 300$ laptop feel like its $1000 desktop system.

So to sum it up. Use your second ssd with the system/laptop that you use the most.

Not enough time to load it up it up in Visual studio, but read through your hashmap quickly.  A few comments

    In HashMap::get
// This is invalid/removed slot and next is empty if (slots[usedIndex].slotState == Slot::INVALID && slots[usedIndex+1].slotState == Slot::EMPTY) { seqLength++; break; } using slots[usedIndex+1] can be dangerous (no mod used).  Also it looks that portion of code could just be changed to this
// This is invalid/removed slot and next is empty if (slots[usedIndex].slotState == Slot::INVALID) continue; In Hashmap::put
When an invalid state is found, only put the new value in it, if the stock doesn't exist later on (I hope you get this, don't have enough time to write why)

The rest looks pretty good from initial inspection though
