  1. I know but it's really all I need. If it's not I will just put it into my second rig I'm going to build for my shop and get something more powerful for this one.
  2. Just to finish the thread off. After some investigating the chipset fried which also fried my cpu as well as the ram. Don't know why it happened but the GPU still works and so does the power supply. Anyway here is the new setup I just ordered. We will see how hot I get when rendering.
  3. Its just humming but I don't ever remember it doing that. Here's what's under it. The manual just labels it as x99 Of course it's labeled that because it's the x99 chipset. Not sure if it should hum but the fact that it does means the motherboard is getting power but isn't turning on. I jumped the power pins to make sure it wasn't just a bad switch and still nothing.
  4. Well I already have 32 gigs of ddr4 but it is old. I don't really have a budget it's just what I think is actually worth spending the money on. I have three monitors and could already have photoshop, illustrator, and solidworks open at the same time. Sure it didn't like it but my point is I'm not sure I want to spend that much more when I could already do what I needed and the 3700x will do all that and more. As a side note what is under this blue ASRock heatsink? I rigged it up outside my case and whatever is under there is making like a loud humming noise.
  5. I know the 3900x would give me the best performance but the 3700x is $200 cheaper and would still be a big upgrade from what I had. I'm not sure I actually need 3900x
  6. Sounds good. I know a case isn't that much but I like building things so I figured why not. What would be a good cooler?
  7. Sounds like AMD it is then. I don't really want to go over $1500. I don't need any new drives, I already got a psu and I'm good with all my peripherals so I guess it's just cpu, motherboard, ram, gpu, and case. Though I'm thinking of maybe building a custom case. Maybe put my solidworks skills to the test. Sounds like AMD it is then. I don't really want to go over $1500. 8. Thanks for the help. I do a little gaming, mostly city skylines, and rocket league. I mainly used my PC for modeling in solidworks, Photoshop, illustrator, and some 4k editing in premiere. My PC handled mostly everything I did fine. Premiere did tell me my graphics card wasn't good enough but I still got by fine. I would also notice if I had a big assembly in solidworks things would chug a bit. I think the biggest choice I have right now is do I go Intel or AMD.
  9. Literally nothing happens. I get no lights. No fans. No power. I guess I'm building a new PC then.
  10. Well I got a new psu and still nothing. It's completely dead.
  11. if i pull the psu apart would there be any way to tell if something is wrong? i dont mind digging into it a bit
  12. that was my first thought but i dont smell anything burnt from it. i will try and get one to test. thats the problem, i dont have anything else. i will try and get a new psu from a friend try that but if that doesnt work idk what else i can do to test.
  13. I was just surfing the web not really doing anything and it just shut off. I tried starting it up again and nothing. I then made sure I didn't bump any cables or have anything loose and still no luck. I then tested my power supply with the paperclip method and the fan kicked on so I'm not sure that's really the problem. It's got an ASRock x99 extreme motherboard with an i7 something or other in it. I built it five years ago. Also a Rosewill 550 80 plus gold And an evga gtx 750 in it if that helps. Any suggestions for troubleshooting would be appreciated.
