Hey guys, so a little bit of backstory:
3 years ago I build my 2.000 € rig which used following hardware:
Intel i7 6700k (Running on base frequency of 4 GHz and cooled by a be quiet! Dark Rock 3)
ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Ranger
ASUS nVidia GeForce GTX 1080 Strix
Patriot Viper 4, 16GB (Base Clock of 2133 MHz)
Energy delivered a be quiet! Dark Power Pro 11 650W
OS and most applications were running on a Samsung 850 EVO SSD with 256GB
Games and other large files are laying on 2 WD Black 1TB drives which are running in an RAID-0 config
Everything was put in a Sharkoon BD28 with green lit case fans
I need to point out, that my rig showed problems after assemble and OS install (Hard-Lock freeze that I could only resolve by power-cycling it). Strangely enough all problems went away after I moved so I was okay with the freezes being gone. Everything held 3 years until I wanted to install an AverMedia 4K Capture Card. Same problems as 3 years ago: Hard-Lock Freezing which caused my OS on my SSD to go haywire. I managed to save my documents from my SSD to my RAID 0 config and reinstall Windows 10 in hope that this will fix everything, but nope. Removed the AverMedia and the the GTX 1080 and only using CPU-Graphics to test which did not removed the freezes. So i abandoned my CPU and Motherboard and brought them to recycling. And this leads me to this thread now
Of course I want to keep my GTX 1080 as it did cost me over 800 € back in 2016 and still is in pretty good shape.
However I want to change from Intel to AMD this time. So far i decided to buy the following hardware at the end of november:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X CPU
ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F "Gaming"-Mainboard OR ASUS PRIME X470-PRO (X470-Alternative as GalacticRuler stated)
To cool the CPU I want to go the liquidy way and use the Alphacool Eisbär 240 (Will be bought later on)
32 GB of DDR4 RAM @ 3200 MHz from G.Skill (RipJaws V)
The M.2 SSD will be a Samsung 970 EVO Plus with 500GB of room for data
As a case, I did reduce it to two options: Either the Cooler Master MasterBox Q500L or the Corsair Carbide Air 540
As be quiet!'s PSU-Calculator states, I do not need to upgrade my Dark Power Pro 11. But I do want to upgrade from a SSD to an M.2 Drive to speed things a little more up. Got already some ideas to use the old 850 EVO... Everything listed above currently costs 857,70 €.
To follow the Thread Recommondations from Windspeed36:
Currently I do have a FullHD Acer Monitor which will be sometime in the future exchanged by a multi-monitor setup with 1 dedicated gaming-monitor with a resolution of 1440p and a possibly 4K IPS display for creative stuff (more on it down below). Other peripherals are not needed so far.
So, the system needs to do the following tasks:
Gaming at 1440p (I am usually not playing current games, but Cyberpunk 2077 should run on it with)
Blender-Renderings on the Cycles-Engine
Recording stuff with the mentioned AverMedia 4K at the max resolution this thing can handle
Editing up to 4K video contents with DaVinci Resolve
Using Firefox with sometimes well over 30 Tabs open...
Programming (Game development as well as "casual" development like nodejs or pyhton)
Photoshop and Lightroom
Possibly more crazy ideas as the days will go by... (Like VR as I recall now)
So, I am currently unsure about what case to choose, as my old Sharkoon was a little bit wonky as I would say. To relief the weight of my GTX 1080 I really want a case in which the motherboard will lie flat so that the PCIE slot will not get damaged on the long run (The slot on my old Mainboard went a little bit wobbly after 3 years). Additionally I am totally unsure about my choice of motherboard as the B450 Chipset delivers everything I need without being as overpriced as the X570 Chipset, but I do not know if I am missing something here...
However to justify my choice of mainboard: As I was able to save my data to the RAID-0 config but not to an external drive I do want to stick with the same mainboard-manufacturer to increase my chance to just plug in and play the raid without having to loose my data. I really hope that ASUS did not change the producer of raid chips on these things. I might however try some recovery if this will be not the case... RAID-0 should not be that hard to recover anyway (Again I do hope a lot here )
Price-wise I want to stay below 1000 € and I do live in Germany. The case can cost up to 150€ and the RAM will be choosen when the time comes. By the way, I do not care about any RGB as long as the hardware works >.<
So it would be nice if anyone can tell me what case i should opt for and if I should stick with the B450-Chipset or at least go to X370 or X470 (X570 is really expensive without giving a lot of more performance in my eyes). Also, IF you can tell me a little bit more about my RAID-0 problem, feel free to educate me ?.
So far, thanks for any kind of help and have a nice day!
