  1. Whew! Thanks for everyone's input! 2. https://www.amazon.com/Broadcom-HBA-9400-16i-Storage-controller/dp/B074XLZ746 Something like this? How do I know what cables are compatible with this? It doesnt seem to list the connector numbers like the HL15 website does.
  3. After back and forth here and Reddit, how does this new build look? What am I missing? On the 45 Drives site, it has different options for data cables. What cables do I pick to connect it to this mobo? HW Model Mobo Asus Pro WS W680-ACE CPU Intel i7-13700k RAM Kingston 32gb 5600 DDR5 Cooler Noctua NH-D12L Case+PSU 45 Home Lab
  4. Also posted this on Reddit and they seem to be driving me towards consumer Intel hardware instead. I have read that Unraid prefers ECC RAM, but does it really matter?
  5. I am looking to build a new Unraid server. Have built computers for years but I am a noob when it comes to server equipment. I realize the parts below are drastically different in cost+capability, so I need some input. I have no idea what to look for when it comes to connecting a large number of drives (HBA?) to the server mobo (part of the appeal for the 45 drives case). Basically, I am looking for at least 10 3.5 drives (preferably 12+) and maybe 1 or 2 5.25 bays (not required but would be nice). This build is for Unraid, 2 Windows VMs, 10ish dockers (Jellyfin, Unbound, Pihole, Home Assistant, etc.), and NAS. I already have an Intel dual 10gig NIC and an Intel A380. However, I realize that Unraid currently doesnt support the A380, so I may need to add a GPU to one of these builds. Case needs to be rack mountable. Cost is not necessarily an issue, but I am looking to get the best system I can build for a reasonable price (don't mind spending the money, but dont want to overspend if not needed). What route would you go and what would you add to the build? What am I missing? I probably need a PCIe to NVME M.2 adapter and some way to connect all the drives to the motherboard. Plus what is the best way to power all of this? Any recommendations would be great! Parts Option 1 AMD EPYC 7402 Supermicro H12SSL-i 256gb 3200A Option 2 Intel Xeon e5-2597v4 x2 SuperMicro X10DRI-T4+ 64gb ECC DDR4 2133mhz Case Option 1 45 Home Lab (case + PSU + backplane) Option 2 Sliger CX4712 Option 3 Rosewill RSV L4500U
  6. Thanks for the suggestions! I've struggled to figure out how to best get more drives set up. How would you fit the drives themselves into the case if I did get a HBA? I bet I could find something to 3D print. As for 10gig, yes I do have a Ubiquiti aggregation switch between my 24 port switch and NVR, before the UDM Pro. My main PC is 2.5gig plugged in directly to the aggregation as well.
  7. You rock! I have been digging around and finding partial answers. That thread is fantastic. You all have been super helpful! While I have you, what 10gig NIC would you add to this Dell T40 thats supported by Unraid? And whats the best way to start ramping up to more internal drives? Have lots of USB devices plugged in and feel like I should start looking at something else? Either another server altogether or something external rack mountable that plugs into this T40?
  8. Thanks for the input! Yeah I am using the linuxserver version of Jellyfin. Seems to be working fine with the integrated GPU, but I did just receive the A380. Going to attempt to get that working. It shows up in the system devices but I cant seem to get Jellyfin to direct to it. Is Unraid what most people are using these days or has the consensus been to switch to something else? Proxmox or TrueNas?
  9. Yeah its listed in system devices in Unraid after I followed Bersella AI's instructions and was able to pass it through to Jellyfin. Prior to this, using Quick Sync encoding would error out. Now it works fine. However, I can't stream remotely still. Maybe just a Jellyfin limitation? The stream tries to load but I imagine a 4k file over a cell network is too much. [8086:3e96] 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation CoffeeLake-S GT2 [UHD Graphics P630]
  10. That was exactly what I needed! I was struggling to find the "extra parameters" section in the Unraid docker, but using your comment as a Google search lead me to the Advanced tab. Integrated GPU mounted and Quick Sync is working I think! No more errors. Is there a way to verify? Checking some 4k transcodes and it completely pins all 4 cores at 98% with 1 stream, haha. Will see if I can get the A380 to offload that hopefully. Some comments seem to say it works. They say the "official" Unraid docker has the Intel drivers, but I don't see an "official" Unraid docker in the app store. Also appears that Unraid removed the ability to add additional repositories to the app store.
  11. Hmm I may have misconfigured it in Jellyfin. Gotta do some research there. Its hit or miss. Streaming 1080p is no problem on anything. But streaming 4k is super laggy unless I'm streaming to a PC. Edit: Guess I am not sure how to set up hardware transcoding properly. It appears that my CPU is capable of Quick Sync but enabling that in the Jellyfin Playback>Transcoding settings just causes streaming to error out. Something about passing through the iGPU to Jellyfin in Unraid but I can't find instructions how to do it?
  12. I have an Unraid server running on a Dell Poweredge T40 and am looking to make this noob configuration better. Here are the specs: https://i.dell.com/sites/csdocuments/Product_Docs/en/dell_emc_poweredge_t40_spec_sheet.pdf Intel Xeon E-2224G @ 3.5ghz 24gb DDR4 ECC Samsung 860 EVO SSD 500gb x2 (SATA) WD WD30EFRX 3tb x2 (SATA) Seagate ST4000DM000 4tb (USB) WD WDBAMA0180HBK 18tb18tb (USB) WD WDBWLG0200HBK 20tb (USB) SanDisk 3.2Gen1 32gb (Unraid boot USB) Currently hosted dockers: Minecraft Valheim Homeassistant Jellyfin Mosquitto Pihole Unbound Vaultwarden MQTT I have one array with the two WD 3tbs for a total of 6tb with the Seagate 4tb as parity for essential files. The WD 18tb is holding movies/tv shows for Jellyfin with the 20tb as parity. The two 500gb Samsung SSDs are used as cache. The server is currently housed in its original tower case from Dell, but I also have this case that is currently sitting empty in my rack: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F7RJPHO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 Jellyfin can struggle to run 4k videos on this machine so I have also purchased an Intel A380 that gets delivered soon. I have 10gig networking available in either RJ45 or SFP, so it would be nice to get a new NIC since this motherboard is limited to 1gig. I definitely feel that I have set this up in a non-optimal way and am probably pushing the 300w PSU too hard (especially when I add the GPU). I have run out of internal SATA so I had to use USB drives. What should I do to improve this setup? Open to outright replacing components and building a new system or moving parts around. Appreciate the input!
  13. Good to know about PayPal vs credit cards. I was thinking the opposite and tend to use PayPal for most things online. I've had good luck with B&H in the past and they have a good reputation, its just a lame situation all around. I don't want to pay scalper prices, but also havent seen anything else come up for stock essentially since launch. Was tempted to just get a 4080, but the whole point was to build a stupid computer with no regard to cost. How are people managing to get them now? Or has it really not come in stock since October? Edit: Just saw your post IkeaGnome. What do you run for that? I follow some on Twitter and use those alerts to get hard to find items. That typically works for everything else and was how I got the initial 4090 order at B&H. Are there other Twitter accounts that I should be using, or other alerts all together?
  14. In October, my goal was to build a new computer with all current gen parts. I was able to get in an order for an ASUS 4090 at B&H Photo for MSRP. However, for months it has sat as "backordered" and customer service keeps telling me yes it will ship on XYZ date, but the date keeps getting pushed further and further into the future (now mid JAN 2023). They charged my PayPal account... I am worried about hitting some kind of limit where I wont be able to get a refund due to the length of time. Not really sure if that's a thing, though. What should I do here? How are others getting 4090s? I haven't had any luck since those initial orders went live...
  15. I think I got it! It is plugged into FLE, which I thought would automatically configure crossover. Not sure if that actually works with this receiver; I couldn't find a way to manually set it. Looking online, the sub is supposed to be set at a crossover of 120. Set it to 120, and now its LOUD. Had to re-do YPAO and set the sub volume to 75%. Seems like its perfect now! Speaking of though, why does this sub have a L and R channel? Should I be plugging in Sub 1 and Sub 2 into L and R? Right now, the R channel on the sub and the Sub 2 channel on the AVR are unused.
  16. Factory reset the receiver. Still cant get the sub any louder. I set the sub crossover to 100, turned on bass boost, set the front speakers to small, plugged in sub1 on receiver to FLE on the sub. YPAO auto configuration still maxes out the sub volume. YPAO does error W1 for a speaker out of phase, but apparently this is a common problem even if everything is wired correctly (I checked every speaker, couldn't find any reversed wires). I am just at a loss. No clue what I am doing wrong.
  17. Crossover is set to max and sub volume set to max. Still pretty quiet. The YPAO set up also maxes out the volume of the sub, still quiet. I have it plugged in with just 1 cable from LFE to sub1. I feel like I am doing something wrong.
  18. I am new to the world of "real" surround sound, having upgraded from a soundbar with wireless surround to this 5.1.2 system. I got this system from a friend (lucky!). I just finished running the wires in the walls and need some advice on proper set up. Speakers: https://www.crutchfield.com/p_091EVO512A/Focal-Sib-Evo-Dolby-Atmos-5-1-2.html?tp=34 Receiver: https://www.crutchfield.com/S-iYN40g24aUB/p_022RXV583/Yamaha-RX-V583.html I really just have two questions: 1. Is this receiver the right "size" for the speakers? The speakers are rated for up to 200w and the receiver is 80w/channel, and I have read conflicting information stating under- or over-powering speakers can be harmful to the life of the speaker. Assuming the system is fine (it sounds amazing), but wanted to check in. 2. Subwoofer connection. Alright, so the sub has "Right" and "Left LFE" RCA inputs. The receiver has Sub1 and Sub2 outputs. Right now I have RCA from "Left LFE" to Sub1 and from "Right" to Sub2, sub volume at 75%, crossover at LFE, phase at 0, and power at Auto. (Picture of the back of the sub here: (https://www.crutchfield.com/p_091EVO512A/Focal-Sib-Evo-Dolby-Atmos-5-1-2.html?tp=34#&gid=1&pid=4). I have read articles saying I need to use a Y cable to connect both Left and Right on the sub to Sub1 on the receiver, and don't use Sub2. Some say don't bother and just connect Left LFE to Sub1 (ignoring Right and Sub2). My sub is very quiet, so I am concerned I have something wrong. What is the right way to connect this sub and receiver? Thanks all!
  19. The DPI settings on the G Pro X Superlight dont save to the mouse. The DPI defaults to 800 and then waits for the G Hub software to load before switching to 1600 (my settings). Is there a way to force the mouse to stay in 1600? I tried changing to "On Board" but it doesn't let you change the DPI with that enabled. Maybe I am doing something wrong? Just annoying that the mouse stays at 800 DPI after waking from sleep. Anyone find a fix for this? Thanks!
  20. Worked! Thanks for your help!
  21. Weird how that worked! Any way to boot to BIOS with the GPU installed? I managed to get into the BIOS, turned on TPM and my overclocks, put the GPU back in... Everything seems to be fine, but there's still no BIOS splash screen when the GPU is plugged in.
  22. Having a weird issue, not sure how long this has been happening! I figured I'd enable TPM for Windows 11, but I can't get my computer to boot to the BIOS. There isn't a BIOS splash screen any more. Windows loads just fine. Trying to hit the BIOS key on start up just does...nothing. It looks like it may be trying to load the BIOS but there is no display (on either GPU or on-board video outs). Have to hard reset to get back into Windows. I even updated the BIOS firmware through the (terrible) MSI Dragon Center, still no BIOS. Dragon Center says BIOS is on the latest version now (A.B0 10/12/2020). Also while troubleshooting this I noticed that RAM and CPU are set back to defaults, XMP is turned off. What should I do here? Windows 10 Pro MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Edge AC LGA1151 i9-9900K 32gb GSkill TridentZ 3000 mhz Gigabyte RTX 2080
  23. Dang that is a great idea. I may go that route mariushm. There is a 660p on sale right now too. Thank you everyone for your input! Guess I will start trying to offload some of these drives.
  24. What would be the best way to fit these drives in the server?
  25. I recently purchased this server: https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/povw/poweredge-t40 And this SSD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PGC3JKQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 By random stroke of luck, Amazon sent me the entire SKU package for the SSDs and then told me to keep it at no additional charge. So now I have 10 480gb SSDs... Is there any practical method of putting more than 3 in this server? There are only 4 SATA ports on the mobo, and 4 SATA power cables. 1 for the DVD drive, 3 left over (which I have populated with 3 of these SSDs). There are 3 3.5 inch bays, and I have seen trays that let you fit 2 2.5 inch drives into the same space. Is it possible to get 6 of these drives in the space, split the SATA power cables with adapters, and get a PCIe SATA controller? Is that even worth it? What do you recommend? I am looking to get more storage on this server which is currently used for Minecraft, Terraria, random game server hosting. I do not need a ton of storage, maybe between 1.5-3tb would be plenty for my backups. Thanks!
