I mean in theory you could do it. I'm not a professional and I like to test my luck with things though. You'd have to be splitting the yellow 12v molex power pin (Y-cable) to the top two power pins and use both ground pins on the bottom for a total of 4 pins. The 5v pin won't be used from the molex. Only try this if you're desperate or really lazy and okay will blowing something up if it doesn't go right. Try at your own risk. Not my responsibility. edit: or you could buy an evga 600W with 80+ certification. it's like the cheapest actually good PSU with 8pin cpu and x2 8pin for GPU. (just bought one and I think its cool I'm not afiliated with evga LOL XD)

shoot @piratemonkey Is there anything a cmos clear or something bios related might fix? or do you think its a hardware thing, something on the mobo is dead?

Just started my first custom pc build and I can't get it to post. when bridging the power pins on the JFP1 connector the CPU, PSU, and GPU fans start turning but quickly shut off. It ends up being like a very slow turning of fans. The LED's on the cooler light up and fade to black with it too. No monitor output. No post. Every time it does this action, bridging the pins does not work until you power off the power supply, hold the button for a couple seconds, release, turn unit back on and press button/ bridge pins again. looking for some help. My hardware setup is as follows MSI a68hm e33 v2 AMD A8-6500 3.5Ghz 4-core Cooler Master Hyper 212 Red HyperX DDr3 8gb 2133Mhz single stick I've done a paperclip test on the PSU, all pins showing up correct on a multimeter and changed the ram with a known working ddr3 2gb 1600mhz. No symptom changes at all. Removing the CPU does NOT change symptoms either. Bricked motherboard? What does LTT community think?

Aye everybody. I've watch LTT for abt a year now and I'm starting to get more ambitious with my current setup. I'm a poor college student running a Lenovo Ideapad p500. The Samsung SSD is dang speedy already so that's stayed. I upgraded memory to 8GB 2pc HyperX ddr3 @ 1860MHz. I feel I could upgrade the processor, a Core i5 3230M @ 2.6GHz, to something a little bit faster like an i7 (side note I'd love to try overclocking at some point though I'm not sure that's possible in a laptop). I need a little help and advice on what processor if any will give me some more performance gain. My workload type is some video rendering and some light gaming here and there. Anything is helpful thx Edit: I'm thinking about an Core i7-3540M. It's physical specs match with an upgrade of 3.0GHz vs the 2.6GHz. I'm wondering if I will see any performance gain.
