    windows.old

It's usually created when there is a major update to windows like the Fall Creators or April window's updates. I usually keep it around for a few days to make sure everything is working, then delete it using Disk Cleanup.
  2. OK, just thought that I had already seen it on YT also.
  3. When you had the shop put in the ssd, did they also put the original drive back in as a storage drive? If they did then they most likely also wiped it clean, if they just replaced it with the ssd and gave the original back but not installed in the computer, you may be lucky as it most likely would still have the original windows on it.
  4. Did you erase the original drive, if not, then just swap them out. If you formatted the original drive, you may have to load windows back onto it.
  5. Used to use an MS account for my computer, then after one of the updates, I lost all access to my network storage. Just no way I could get to access it again, many other folks had similar problems when I was checking out the MS forums. Only way I was finally able to get access was to change my MS account to a local account, and suddenly every thing started working fine again. Haven't tried changing it back to a MS account since that problem, can't afford to loose access to my network storage again.
  6. Thought you were talking about your main drive, but you can try it on the data drive, won't hurt anything.
  7. Run Disk Cleanup to get rid of any temp and/or unnecessary files to clear up some space before you defrag.
  8. Do you have the latest bios for your motherboard? It appears that with the update to 1803, if your bios is not up to date, then it can cause some serious problems. Supposedly MS added some code to support cpu's that are supceptible to the new bugs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YM3WfHk5To
  9. When you say it does nothing, do you mean that there is no display? Does it have a HDD activity light, is it flashing which might indicate that it is loading windows but you just can't see it on the display. Can you connect it to another monitor or to your tv to see if it is just your display screen?
  10. This is capable on my Asus Z370 Prime board for the onboard rgb lights using Asus Aura.
  11. Use some high % isopropyl alcohol and a paper towel.
  12. I know on my asus prime-a board that has 2 m.2 slots, if one of them is occupied and set to ssd then all the ports work, it it is set to pci-e then one of the sata ports is disabled. Check you manual and see if this does the same on your board.
  13. I have the same problem with my G3. To solve the problem, I disable the Eco mode. I think what happens is that in Eco mode the fan stays off until it reaches it's turn on temp, then it runs at 100% until it cools off. When it turns on it sounds like a jet engine for few minutes then goes quiet as it turns off again after it cools down. Disable eco mode keeps the fan on all the time but at a slower speed it seems. It is a bit louder but not like the jet engine it does when in eco mode.
  14. Depending on the sink, you should be able to just turn the fan around.
  15. 250/250 Telus $75 ($90 less $15 for bundle discount. TV and phone)
  16. Looks like win10 grew over time. My 'semi-original' win10, like I mentioned above would fit on a 4GB stick, and the first media creation tool only asked for a 3GB stick!
  17. Is that the original Win10 files or with the creator update included?
  18. Made a mistake, they've updated the specs to requiring 8GB now. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
  19. You are right, just looked at it again and it recommends 8GB now. I know when I first installed windows I used a 4GB drive, the installation files took up about 3.6GB. I see now that they recommend 8GB. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
  20. I always disable windows fastboot. Have had too many software and hardware problems with it enabled. (note: this is different than the fastboot in the asus bios)
  21. You will also need to buy 'ink' for the laser printer once the starter cartridges run out. I used to use inkjet but because I do not constantly print stuff, the ink was always drying out so I finally switched to a colour laser printer because the 'ink' for the lasers is usually a powder and does not dry out. Only thing that I miss is that the inkjet types did print better quality photos but the laser still does a decent job especially if you use a photo type paper for printing. Another thing is that the laser cartridges will be much more expensive that the inkjet cartridges, but I found they print a lot more sheets of paper before running out.
