  1. I'm sure Jon would tell you some horror stories of working with Seasonic and how they manage stuff around but that wasn't intention here. It's just a joke. People say 'this PSU is top quality because it's Seasonic' without any ground for their claims, it doesn't work like that, and thus it's only natural to say 'well, it's because it's Seasonic' when referring to any problems their PSUs have (because some of them are in fact caused by Seasonic decisions). But again, no ill intentions here, just a joke. OP might have just gotten an unlucky sample, happens with any OEM. There's actually a whole bunch of people having coil whine problems with other PSU that shouldn't have it, including Corsair RMx series. I have one and it's completely silent, to the point that i'm not even sure if it's fan is working under 65% load i put on it under stress tests, and there's no coil whine at all. So i don't know why some people have coil whine and some don't, must be something external, like electricity quality and differences in PC components.
  2. Not that i'm aware of, currently at least. They were doing some side gigs in the past, with Rosewill and some other not very well known (currently) brands.
  3. You're putting the PSU in abnormal working conditions, of course a PSU with burst mode would whine at zero load. You've already unpacked the thing - try it out in the actual system.
  4. That's just normal PSU operation, may mean that Seasonic haven't put enough putty on inductors to completely dampen the noise, it's Seasonic after all. Or it whines just because it's more recent than Focus and needs to meet the new requirements for low load efficiency, thus having burst mode which makes coil whine like noise at load loads which you're especially suspectible to.
  5. Look up Event 18, WHEA Error in the event viewer, there should be a type and id of the hardware that's caused it.
  6. It's clearly not. Just let the CPU do it's work. Disable CTR and reset BIOS, see if restarts persist.
  7. No. There are actually four versions of Antec Neo Eco Gold : - The OG one, just Antec Neo Eco Gold - essentially a rebrand of Seasonic Focus GM, seems to be discontinued now - Neo Eco Gold Zen - made by Andyson, might be decent but there are almost no proper reviews - Neo Eco Gold green-label - seems to be a China/SEA-only product, made by Helly, zero reviews and appears to be an essentially beta test of the next version ... - Neo Eco Gold M or Modular - seems to be very similar or identical to the green-label one. Seasonic sells something very similar under their own label as G12 so that's probably why Antec uses it too. The OEM's - Helly's consumer brand is '1st Player' and they sell it as 1st Player Steampunk and Armour (it isn't clear what are differences). Aris has reviewed a recent and an older versions of these but i wouldn't trust them for anything but a budget build really. Especially since Antec's and Seasonic's versions may be different.
  8. That site doesn't let foreign visitors in but Corsair RM is a good PSU, don't worry.
  9. Yes. There were some problems with early revisions, they're assumed to be fixed by 2020. Well, that's on you but unless you live in or close to some humid region like SEA i'd say it's fine.
  10. Lol no, replace it. If you actually sure you want an 8 years old 300W GPU.
  11. It's not hatred lol, it's acknowledgement of flaws products have. And your PSU doesn't have problems with Ampere because it's again, actually Focus platform, not Prime. =>850W Primes GX/PX and any Prime TX will, it's all over the internet. Okay ... so do you need a 1.2kW then ? Anyway if you do, you know my recommendations. I'd personally prefer HX because it's multi/single-rail switchable but P2 (or Super Flower Leadex Platinum SE for that matter since it's the same thing) is fine if cheaper.
  12. Sure, but that doesn't make it a better option. Probably not, at least because there are zero reviews on it. And also the fact that it's made by HEC and this is to my knowledge their first 80+ Platinum platform, something may go wrong we need reviews. It's a very acclaimed series, basically one of the reasons why EVGA PSUs are so popular today. These units are very robust and well reviewed in contrast with P+ which just looks like another spin on NEX-G/GQ/G+/G5 FSP-made series. I'm simplifying ofc but it's nevertheless a less optimal choice for when you actually need a 1.3kW PSU because at the very least it would have a coil whine and i think there were reports that it's also not very quiet. It has problems with Ampere GPUs, no idea if 1.3kW one would manifest them but again, if you actually need a 1.3kW PSU, it's better safe than sorry. So why do you need a 1.3kW PSU to start with ? Sorry, but you've bought a Focus with 'Prime' label slapped on it.
  13. Corsair HX or EVGA P2, because they're better.
  14. It doesn't matter, the SSD doesn't do any audio processing. All it does is sending digital data which then is being pulled all the way though the PC to audio chipset/card and it's DAC to your listening device. And in that there's zero difference with how it works with HDD. You're experiencing a placebo effect. Do a double blind test and you'll see for yourself. Like, connect both the HDD and SSD simultaneously. Put the same audio file on both. Get a third party to rename both files randomly so you wouldn't know what is what. Put them both in audio player and cycle through to determine which you like better. Do a few more rounds of this (renaming and listening) to collect statistics. In the end it would be close to 50/50 distribution depending on the sample size. PS: There is also some specialized software for double blind audio tests.
  15. Any distance is far enough because it isn't going to harm anything. It's placebo.
  16. Was utterly confused why are you talking about 'sound cable' and a PSU in one sentence until i looked at the cable in question LOL. As other people have already said, no, it would make zero difference. May actually make things worse by melting the fuck off if your system actually needs that 1.2kW PSU and the cable would turn out to be not so high-qualty after all, as some of the audiophile snake oil products are. As other commenter already said, the cable is irrelevant for EMI here, the PSU does the filtering itself, in it's circuitry. And this is a pretty high quality PSU so it should be doing a good job on it. But if you're positive that there's no other source of EMI in your setup other than the PSU - the only way to fix it would probably be a replacement of said PSU. For something with less capacity at that (i'm sure your PSU would be fine with 750/850W one), because there would be more options. You can also try to put ferrite filters/beads on PSU cables inside the PC, that can actually help to filter out EMI that got past / was generated by the PSU.
  17. Honestly, no idea. It might've been just not gilded back after splitting off the rest of Focus models (which had problems with Vega). But really, i'm not comfortable with gilding it, it's a relatively budget model to the rest of tier A gold units there. I'm fine with recommending it if it's cheap enough but it's not as good as say Corsair RM-x and i want to reflect that even if it means some degree of subjectivity. I also considered adding a requirement for an MCU with properly programmed fan control for tier A gold units, but then, Seasonic Prime units lack it too, and un-gilding them would probably be deemed more controversial than not gilding Focus by some. Even if i'm personally completely fine with that, we don't really need more drama here.
  18. Any versions of EVGA BQ are there in the same position.
