Take a look at the Endorfy Navis F, Arctic Liquid Freezer 3, SilverStone IceMyst, Thermalright Frozen Notte & Frozen Magic Scenic V2, DeepCool LS/LT & Mystique,  Lian Li Galahad 2 Trinity Performance, and, well, many others.

the only coolers that fit the case i want are 240mm aios and low profile air coolers which im certain would throttle. thats why im asking about the 240mm aio

The main question is that if you are only able to use a single pcie slot why get an atx board in the first place?

Guess that depends on how large of a GPU you intend to run.  I know I pass my hardware down to my other PCs when I upgrade, so it was important that my HTPCs could use ATX boards. I'm currently using a Silverstone GD09 for them. One of them has a RTX 2080 in it no problems.

You might take a look at Silverstones site they have several smaller cases.

ImServs reacted to NobleGamer in HMB vs DRAM Cache on Gen4 and Gen5 drives?
You talk about like it doesn't, yet it still does within it's the same pcie version - Its just a matter of whether how you use it can benefit from where DRAM tends to make a difference: Lower latency, sustained reads & write throughput, and perhaps random reads/writes throughput. Consider that HMB size varies by manufacturer, but it's generally 60-100MB. I don't believe it uses all your available RAM or anything. So cache will deplete VERY quick compared to gigs of DRAM.

A pcie 4 DRAM-less can have better advertised throughput than pcie 3 with DRAM, but what they don't advertise is whether it's better in those areas I mentioned above. You'll leave to research benchmarks that you trust on that. I personally use pcppartpicker.com since their random and sustained read/write tests seem to have solid methodology.

I know so many people who bought a $700 R7 5700U mini PC a year ago then figured out almost immediately that while Vega 8 is a great iGPU, it’s still a really shitty GPU. The mini PC industry has done a really great job of buying YouTubers (rumor has it ETA Prime and the Toasty Bros both refer to Minisforum as “daddy”). They’ve leveraged that into artificial demand for a product that really not too many people need and, being honest about it, makes very little sense for most.

When one of the YouTube channels mentioned above goes, “Oh, whoa, dude, I’m getting a thousand FPS on Fortnite, and all I had to do was take resolution down to 144p with details set to lowest,” I just roll my eyes and feel genuinely bad for whatever sap buys a mini PC with a crappy iGPU that can’t even sustain great speeds anyway because its heatsink is a slice of cheese. When Wendell says, “Hey, this thing sucks for gaming, but it’d make an awesome NAS,” I’m paying attention because he’s one of not too many people that actually should buy a mini PC.

And, I’ll be real with you, all of this pent up rage is coming from someone who fking loves mini PCs.

    Its what usually happens 😛

Since the price difference is about 100 for quite decently higher single core (very important) AND more cores id get it even if just to have it last a loooooooooooooooooong time

that and resale value every single time :p. Like stupidly the upprr mid range of these mini's go for half of the higher end ones even if performance is extremely similar

Voltage wouldn't be the issue, it would be current. That said, probably not the issue.

I would find a copy of USBTreeView and map out which port correlates to which controller on the board (IIRC there should be one on the CPU and one in the chipset, at least; the TB4 controller should also show as one). It may be possible to get the devices spread around in a way that better-shares the USB bandwidth.

Since you do productivity stuff, it might be worth just going big with the 13900k and running it TDP limited to 105W/120W.

Its a good +50% multithreading performance gain even with the TDP limit set, and with the advantage in single threaded performance.

There are only 3 (arguably 4) that are improvements at all:

    12900K
    13700K
    13900K

    and maybe the 13600K.

So only the 12900K and 13900K would be substantial upgrades.   The 13900K would be the only worthwhile one IMO.  But you'll most likely thermal throttle it in that setup.  So your gains may be marginal, hard to know exactly.

Okay, so it may not be hard to know exactly 😛 Thanks @Agall

cuz a NAS alone doesn't need a ton of cpu power, unless you're doing a ton of encryption or something.

R5 / i5 would be plenty for normal NAS use.
But is it SSD based?  Cuz HDDs will not saturate 10gbe unless you have a TON of drives.

Cut the last 2 off the graph because there tuned and u can see the difference for a game that scales well with ram latency and bandwidth

add the last 2 on if ur going to oc but ddr5 will oc equally as well

these are the numbers of what the cpu is capable of pushing, you then need to look at what gpu u have and if is capable of reaching these numbers as to how much difference it will make

The latency difference between DDR4 and DDR5 is going to be largely negligible for what you're going to be using the PC for the majority of the time. Buildzoid has a good explainer here:

So for UE5 and open world games with large data assets that are going in and out of memory often, I'd personally get DDR5 for the higher sequential transfer bandwidth. But granted, the difference will be in the few percent range most of the time.

I can't comment on EXACTLY what you're doing.

As far as I know when it comes to ram speeds, timing does matter a lot.
    You've got a 3600 CL18 selected for DDR4, and a 5600 CL36 selected for DDR5, thus:
So per these screenshots (which you can try yourself from the link) the DDR4 you've selected would have less latency (and as far as I know basically latency = "speed", which I could be totally wrong about, but it's how I've kinda measured overall ram performance)
If "future proofing" doesn't matter to you I personally would go DDR4.
Just because it's likely a cheaper option. Both the ram itself and the motherboard will likely be cheaper.

However, as someone who also recently did an lga 1700 sff pc, iirc the options for a z690 mobo that supports ddr4 is actually kinda limited (Gigabyte has a  reasonably priced z690 DDR4 board I believe)

I could be completely wrong about any sort of performance difference, as I'm no expert.
