Selle got a reaction from eskamobob1 in ThinkPad X1C Gen 11 - Can I add a WWAN card later?
The WWAN module needs to be supported by the bios to work, you can’t just by a random one and expect it to work. You also have to spec the laptop with WWAN support when you order it, if you don’t it won’t have have the required antennas installed

Selle got a reaction from Invincible Sugar in Why are cellular laptops and tablets (Surface style Windows tablets) so exotic?
As a field service technician I love the fact that my Lenovo laptop has built in cellular. I open the lid and it is online instantly. All of our technicians have laptops with cellular, but we usually buy the cellular module separately and install it ourselves.

I only have one phone plan, but two SIM cards. One normal and one data only.

I have already ordered Cherry MX Black Hyperglide, Cherry MX Red Hyperglide, Cherry MX Clear Hyperglide, Gateron Milky Yellow Pro, Gateron Silent Black INK v2 and Gateron Baby Kangaroo. Ordered 5x of each, it was the minimum quantity, so I can get a good feel of what I like. Thinking of putting stiffer switches in the windows keys

Explain why a more powerful GPU then the 1080 made his frame rate go DOWN when I just showed that a more powerful GPU then the 1080 should make his frame rate go UP.
How much is not the question. How strong a cpu bind is not the question.

You are right a 2080ti is no where near a 4080. and I pointed that out already, That it has no effect to the problem at all.

That there is a software issue here and people recommend spending hundreds of dollars on a new platform is wrong.

It is designed the way it is for a reason. With the vents far away from the fan it will draw air over the motherboard, wifi module, memory and vrm components. If you cut a big hole over the fan you might get better cpu temperature, but completely loose cooling for everything else

Selle got a reaction from Lurking in HP 802E MB - can I add m.2 as boot drive?
HP service manuals are usually pretty good, but it seems like this model is an exemption, there was no good information there

On HP SFF models from this time period the m.2 slot is usually on the edge of the board, and the drive screws in to the case, not the motherboard

Im attaching a picture of a board with a red circle around the m.2 slot, but when looking for a picture I noticed that some boards only have the solder pads without a slot soldered in

Selle got a reaction from Chagrism in Hp elitebook 840 g3 changing product id
The short answer is no, you can’t unlock it. The elevated HP support has the ability to unlock it, but they won’t do it anymore. When the systemboard gets unlocked it removes bios passwords and other security features, HP has stopped unlocking systmboards for anti theft and security reasons. You would also have to use the branding USB only available to certified service technicians to set the unique data after unlocking it. The only way to fix it is to pay HP for a systemboard swap done by a service technician

I have no idea where the unique data is stored, but if it is stored on the bios chip and you can find a unlocked chip, you still need the branding USB to change it

Selle got a reaction from Ramham13 in Are laptops with SIM cards worth it?
I have had laptops with built in mobile connectivity since 2014, and I can’t ever go back to tethering my laptop to my phone again. It work’s so much better. I just open the lid and there is internet instantly. I had a few months last year before I got my new laptop that I had to tether to my phone, my previous laptop only had 3g, and Norway shut down all the 3g towers, having it built in to the laptop is way better

I have a 2nd data only sim card on the same plan as my phone in my laptop

Portable wifi routers works, but it is yet another thing you need to charge

If you can find one with a i5-4590T that is a 4c4t, should be similar price.

This type of mini office desktops are fantastic, low power consumption, no noise and a very low failure rate. The Dell, HP and Lenovo models are very similar, just get the one you can get for the best price. I have a HP one with a 4590T and 16GB ram (had some DDR3 lying around, would be totally fine with 8) as my media PC, bought it new in 2015 and see no need to upgrade anytime soon

Selle got a reaction from Stahlmann in Car Enthusiast Club [Now Motorcycle friendly!] - First thread to 150k! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I got mine 2 month’s ago, very happy so far. It looks way better than the ID.3, but other than that it is the same car. I was also cheaper than the ID.3 in Norway, but it has become more expensive after I got mine, same spec as mine now costs 55.000 NOK (5400 EUR) more than I paid for mine

Personally I don’t like the looks of the Hyundai/KIA, and they are bigger cars than what I need, more like the ID.4, but they charges faster if you do a lot of longer trips

The Born charges fast enough if you only do long trips occasionally, but if you do long trips with several fast charging sessions often it might be worth looking into something that charges faster

Selle got a reaction from DUDVA in Is a laptop with Pentium Silver N6000, 4GB RAM and 256GB SSD enough for totally basic tasks?
Tested with my old work laptop now as I haven’t used a PC with less then 8GB in a long time. It has a 4GB and a 8GB stick, pulled out the 8GB stick. Youtube 1080p 60fps is no problem. 4k 60fps was choppy, but it was maxing out the CPU, not the ram. Did some more tests, feels absolutely fine. Reinstalled the 8GB stick, taking it to 12GB total, cant feel any difference. 4k 60fps is still choppy, confirming that it is the CPU holding it back. The CPU is a i5-4210 and it has a new install of Windows 10 pro with all updates

Conclusion is that 4GB is acceptable for basic tasks, but you should try to keep the Windows installation as clean as possible and of course 8GB would be preferred

It should charge the battery fine with the unit powered off, try to let it sit for 30 min with charger and then try. If same issue you can try to disconnect batter and charger, then hold down the power button for 30 sec

If it doesn’t post (nothing on the display/not able to reach bios), the only thing I can think of is either the module is not compatible or it is broken. It could also require a specific bios version to work

Single channel ram will not make a noticeable difference in general office/web browsing. 2666 is the fastest ram supported by the 10500T, but again, both the ram speed and the cpu itself is plenty fast enough for general office type work

I would look at small formfactor like a Intel nuc, HP Mini, Lenovo Tiny or similar

Selle got a reaction from Mister Woof in Enabled TPM, But There is no Recovery Key
If you activate bitlocker your drive will be encrypted, en the encryption key will be stored in the tmp chip. You will find the recovery key under the bitlocker settings in windows.

Before you do any HW changes you go in to the bitlocker settings, press suspend protection, shut down the system, do the HW change, and bitlocker will be reactivated when you boot to windows again

If you need the recovery key and don’t have a backup, you can log in with you Microsoft account at Microsoft.com, and find the recovery key there if you have used a personal account, if you have a business account you have to contact your system administrator.

If you for some reason cant get the recovery key you will loose you data, but no HW will be bricked, you can wipe the drive and reinstall windows, and you are up and running again. Same if you get 2nd hand HW

Dont loose your bios password, in manny systems that cant be recovered. My recommendation is to not set any bios password unless you have a very specific reason for it

Dont by anything without talking to a sales person at the retailer you go with, especial retailers that are used to work with comercial customers will be willing to negotiate pricing on a big bulk order
