  1. Didn't know that! This makes sense. I remember seeing it three years ago too. But it must be like you said, calms down and then becomes a fad of sorts for a few months. Cheers!
  2. Read a few weeks ago about some people taking up 35mm again, I'm 50 and well... I have a few higher end 35mm cameras and lenses that have sat in the dark for over a decade or more. Just wondering because why keep them when they could be sold and find a new home. TY!
  3. Main drive is just a single TB. So grabbing another 1TB, installing Macrium and it mirrors or backs up the entire main drive at set scheduled times??! Does that work say.... if primary drive just eats it hard, one can just change the BIOS and boot the backup as primary and you're back like new of sorts? I'm liking this idea!
  4. But thats for the primary (or both) drives. It would be nice if power settings could see a second drive.
  5. No OS and no apps, just torrent stashes. I didn't know Windows just shuts it off, I thought only power settings did that and theres only a setting for one drive as you know What you said does make sense.... it does take a few seconds longer to come alive after not touching it for a week! But running WizTree (WinDirStat replacement), scheduled virus scans or a system benchmark - the second drive always shows up. I was just thinking disable drive so other apps don't see it. TY emosun!
  6. W10: Second drive is just for storing torrents and files that I use once a week, when its time to stash. Is it a good idea to just take the drive offline, only to enable when needed? Not interested in physically disconnecting or BIOS disabling. My logic is - why have the drive drawing power and spinning 24hours a day when it doesn't need to. And the drive not needing to be there for a defrag, scan etc. Ya I can disable per drive in software as you go, thought this would be easier. Thank You! ps: and maybe how to enable it after disabling, is it just a matter of going back into device manager, chose drive, then drivers tab and enable?
  7. lol, I remember that video when it came out, the meme dude OK, thats the ultimate, a mirror of the OS. Whats the next step down, having a repair tool ready on USB? Or whatever tool(s) are needed? TY!
  8. W10 Assuming the small steps (sfc, restore point etc) all fail, I'm a bit confused on where to start. What does one need to do, is it having a repair USB stick at ready? I've read theres a lot more but not sure whats needed the most. What procedures and steps can be done so when there's a meltdown, you're ready to try and restore? * The goal is to restore and keep as much of the OS in tact and in its working state as it was before carnage arrived. Thank You!
  9. In case someone sees this in the future. Fonts in green for some reason blocked, had the X through it. Disable then hit the lock to make the change globally. Others wise, if you unblock at site level, you have to do it every time (blech). Cheers
  10. Thanks for getting back. Doesn't in Brave, so as you said, its in Chrome. Going to re-backup bookmarks, a couple extensions and a few flags and reinstall Chrome. Sounds logical. Thanks a bunch! ----- EDIT: disabled all four extensions: Smooth Scroll, dark reader, Youtube enhancer and UblockOrigin. Reload. Fixed, no squares. Enabled one by one - uBlockOrigin is the culprit. Time to look into UB. Thanks again!
  11. No change. Cache deleted, all history in browser. OS temp, %temp%, prefetch and recent all cleared followed by disk cleanup. This is so strange. This happened at times when using various DNS long ago but DNS not being used.
  12. This started a week ago, I don't remember any changes on my end. No new extensions, no new flag rules. Those five squares should be stars, squares on the left some kind of icons. Thank You!
  13. Someone please explain to me why this is even necessary. I can understand a handful of connections but this is bs. I've searched for what can maybe disabled, but its an endless battle/debate with nothing clear. I do use GF Experience for recording time to time, other then that, I'm at a loss.
  14. Apologies for the delay. First, thank you a ton for getting back! Yeah, the W10 version has WPT stripped out of it. I'll check the W8.1 version now. Cheers and thanks again for the reply. Searching for this has been a lost cause (the stand alone).
  15. So the APK that contained WPT was removed by MS. I see a work around DL of the Windows Performance Toolkit for W10.... But I need it for W7, older machine Im working on. Does anyone know where I can find the stand alone WPT for W7? You can install the APK for W7 from MS, it has roughly 10 programs to choose to install, but the one I'm needing is long gone. Thank You!
  16. This machine Im working on: Toshiba L305D-S5974 / W7 x64 Custom power setting in control panel= Every option Min or Max is set %100. All options closing lid etc (do nothing) (Machine is always plugged in, never on battery) Processor performance core parking (min cores) %100 In the stinkin BIOS under CPU options, theres only TWO options: Low Power or Dynamic. They're both friggin powering savers, dynamic as you know isn't%100 full tilt all the time, always fluctuating. What is this hot garbage? There one BIOS update but pouring through it, theres nothing regarding CPU or power. The BIOS settings for any meaningful change is roughly ten settings
  17. Other latency programs don't execute one feature I need, or I'd move on. Over on this machine, fresh W7 Ult. install, all device drivers from the manufactures installed, no issues with anything. (other then this latency spike). No programs open. Run it normal v7.2 : hard crash, ctrl-alt-delete>device manager to force shut down, frozen. Force power down. Run with right click/admin: crash Run in compatibility mode (XP) says it needs W7 to run. Run in lower resolution / right click adjust in shortcut: crash Run in safe mode: crash Uninstall / reboot, dl from source https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon / install. run: crash Found a lower version 7.0, : crash Its the only program doing this. Any ideas on what to poke? Thank you!
  18. How can a person be here on LTT and never hear about driver conflicts?
  19. Over on this machine, W7 Ultimate. Autoruns is showing some services (check marked) that are old and long dead. I don't want to just uncheck them - want to rid them. Ghostbuster and Device Remover software that finds and allows removal of said ghost drivers. Ran GB, studied a bit on how to remove drivers (only displaying unattached / ghost driver)... after a few test dead driver removals, says success and removed. Reboot, still there. Ran Device Remover, success and showed the drivers marked as removed. Reboot, still there. These are not MS drivers, and on reboot no drivers are auto reinstalled. I have full admin rights. Tried in safe mode each program, both ran as admin, no success. Can anyone point me in the right direction on removing these? Thank You very much.
  20. Thank you! Not sure, I've read multiple times that the W 8.1 works with W7 - I don't know if the W10 version would work. Ahh I see, on the MS site for 8.1: So the W10 2004 link looks like that will do the trick! Thanks a ton Needful!
  21. Looking to fix these dpc latency spikes on fresh W7. One big one every 4 seconds. MS is no longer from the links I'm seeing. As we know, theres links everywhere... who to trust. So I come here in hopes of a legit url Thank You very much!
  22. Assumed on my part a driver from today would be better then a driver from MS in 2012. Gotcha, thank you. Cheers.
  23. Everything but the drivers. I've already seen the utility and manual. Data shield is added encryption. There are no drivers. Through Tor (Denmark) or the US.
  24. I hope your not saying that default placeholder drivers from MS are the same as drivers from the manufacture. Just because it works (it functions), doesn't mean its optimized.
