  1. Upgrading from my very old Asus VG248QE 24.0" 1920 x 1080 144 Hz Monitor. Looking at this one: LG UltraGear QHD 27" My only real requirements are 1440p or better and 144hz or better.
  2. Yeah monitor is very old. Going to get a high refresh 1440p, shopping around for a good deal right now. Also considering the Ryzen 5800x3d. Seems to be my best option with the x570 mobo.
  3. Just not seeing the type of improvement I would've expected going from a 970 to a 3080 ti. Figured smarter people than me could take a look at this information and tell me if everything looks good/normal. I can run other benchmarks/tests and post additional info if needed. TIA I've included screenshots of Superposition, Uniengine, Heaven and below is the text from UserBenchmarks. UserBenchmarks: Game 203%, Desk 98%, Work 185% CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - 91.4% GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080-Ti - 226.7% SSD: Samsung 860 Evo 250GB - 84.5% SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB - 291.7% HDD: WD Blue 1TB (2012) - 87% RAM: Unknown TEAMGROUP-UD4-3200 2x8GB - 86.2% MBD: Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE
  4. No, in the past couple days I've ran some benchmarks, played a few games and never saw the lights. Today at some point after booting before I had even done anything I noticed them. I turned off the pc and turned off the switch at the PSU and then turned everything back on and the lights have gone off again. Ran another benchmark and played a game for a bit, still off. As far as I can tell I've used the correct cables in the correct spots. All of which are properly clipped in.
  5. How would one go about diagnosing a fault in the GPU? I would lean towards it being in the GPU since it was bought used.
  6. I have a new to me 3080 ti and a brand new Corsair 850x to power it. As far as I can see the PSU only came with 1 individual pcie cable, the others are splitters/pigtails. I'm using the single pcie and one of the splitter cables to power the GPU. Today I turned on the PC and noticed the GPU had 3 red blinking lights. Could this be due to not running 3 individual pcie cables? If so can you recommend a budget friendly source of cables that will work with the 850x? The premium cables offered on Corsairs website are $99, a bit much for someone who doesn't care about colors or aesthetics.
  7. Appreciate the response. Yeah my monitor was purchased in 2015 its definitely time to replace it. I'll likely go 1440p high refresh.
  8. Appreciate the response. Would 4 8gb sticks be better than 2 16gb? Or is the point to allow for adding 2 more 16gb sticks later?
  9. Budget (including currency): Flexible Country: US Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming - Newest titles, Some video editing. Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): MB: X570 Aorus Elite CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 GPU: ASUS ROG Strix 3080 Ti PSU: Corsair RM850x RAM: TEAMGROUP Dark Pro 2 x 8 GB DDR4-3200 CL14 COOLER: CM Hyper 212 Black MONITOR: Asus VG248QE 24" 1080 144 Hz SSD: Samsung 970 EVO+ 1TB SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 2.5" 250 GB CASE: Corsair Carbide Series 300R ATX I play esports type FPS games at high refresh rates but also play many newer titles as they are released. I upgrade slowly and typically piece by piece but I recently got a stupid good deal from a friend on the 3080 Ti. I went ahead and upgraded my PSU from an 8 year old 650 watt to the RM850x to support the higher demand of the GPU. Now I'm taking a look at the rest of the system and wondering what the next step should be. Mainly looking at it from a gaming standpoint what should my upgrade path be?
  10. Interesting, in that case I likely have an old HDMI cable. Its not giving the option for anything over 60hz in display settings. Although I did find an old dual-link dvi-d cable laying around and they claim 144hz at 1080p but its not giving me the option to increase beyond 60hz either.
  11. Yeah that's what I'm afraid of. Going to have to try and source a monitor so I can test. If my HDMI support 144hz I would just leave it as is but the monitor and gpu are so old I don't think they will.
  12. I've been googling this but so far no solution. PC was working fine earlier, shut it down and left the house. Came back home powered on and I get "No Signal". So I turn it off and back on, unplug and replug both ends of the DP cable, etc. Still No Signal. I also tried the other 2 DP ports on the GPU, no bueno. Finally I tried an old HDMI cable and tada! its working fine. I went out and bought a new DP cable, it doesn't work either. Asus VG248QE monitor Gigabyte G1 gaming GTX970 Fully up to date Windows 11 and graphics drivers. What am I missing here? I don't have a spare monitor or GPU to swap for testing purposes. Anything else I can try to resolve this? Thanks in advance
  13. Plan is to return it. Its loud. Hard to imagine anyone being okay with their computer screaming while they play games.
  14. Amazon says "return eligible through May 31, 2020" Not sure why they give me 2 months but I'll take it.
  15. I've had the Gigabyte 2070s windforce oc since the 3/23. Today I quit back to main menu on tomb raider and realized the card was whining really bad. Loud obnoxious and it fluctuated as I navigated the menu. Tried it in Doom Eternal and again major whine in the menu. This wasn't happening before today. I also checked CSGO which actually had no noticeable whine. What would cause this to start so suddenly? I've played all of these games several times since getting the card.. Should I try to troubleshoot or just return it to Amazon? Other specs: x570 aorus elite, 3600, 2x8 gb 3200 cl14, 650 watt evga 80+ gold. Note: Temps are and have been great on both cpu/gpu.
  16. PSA: If your using DisplayPort and your monitor stops working or behaving oddly unplug it for a minute and plug it back in. It fixed my issue when nothing else would.
  17. Win10, x570 aorus elite, 3600, 2070 super, 2x8 gb, 650 watt psu During scan went to black never came back. Rebooted, disconnected display, pulled battery from mobo, still black screen. After pulling the battery it seemed like it might come back, gpu fans started spinning but still no signal. Not sure what to do. Most of the system is brand new, gpu just got here 4 days ago. The psu is 5 years old tho.
  18. Using the @bios utility to update BIOS. Choosing "Update from file" and I've downloaded the latest BIOS for my x570 aorus elite. When selecting the file is: X570AE.12f the correct one to choose? The only other options are: efiflash(application) autoexec(windows batch file) readme(text document) It seems obvious but I just wanted to confirm.
  19. I'm sure you're right just that doubt that sneaks in after spending $500 on a GPU.
  20. I bought a 2070 Super card (GV-N207SWF3OC-8GD) and I've been wondering if I should've spent more for a higher core clock. How much of a difference does 30 mhz make? Or maybe I should've just gone with a 5700xt.. Second guessing myself and I purchased recently from Amazon so I can easily return at no cost. Any insight is appreciated.
  21. Interestingly I just got home with my new DisplayPort cable and hooked it up. Restarted the PC and no blue screen. Maybe something about the HDMI cable was causing the issue. Will test a bit more to be sure.
  22. When I installed the new GPU's drivers it said it was removing the old driver along the bottom of the installation screen so I assume it at least tried to get rid of the old drivers before installing the new ones. That being said I suppose I should try DDU. Reading the instructions for DDU on the guru3d page was a bit intimidating so I was hoping to avoid it.
  23. Went from gtx 970 to the rtx 2070 super. User benchmark shows the card working very well but every time I start or restart the pc I get a short 1-3 second blue screen. No error messages. Then it goes to the mobo boot screen and starts normally. Using hdmi because I forgot to buy a displayport cable but I'm going to do that this morning. Only other symptom I noticed is some hesitation on startup where it revs up then slows down before revving back up. I did notice things looking a bit "soft" in game but I'm not sure if that's being cause by the hdmi not supporting 144hz, which I'm used too. I did not use DDU because I went from nvidia to nvidia but I did install the latest drivers for the new card from nvidia. System specs: -Windows 10 64bit -EVGA 650 watt 80+ gold -Aorus elite x570 -ryzen 5 3600 -GIGABYTE RTX 2070 Super Windforce OC -2x8gb 3200mhz team dark pro -caviar blue 1TB + samsung evo 860 250gb -Asus vg248qe 1080p 144hz
  24. I haven't seen much concrete on the subject. Some say they are better but others are currently (as in this week) still have blue screens, black screens and other issues. If you sort reviews on the most popular buying sites by "most recent" people are still complaining and returning cards because they aren't able to get them running properly. It certainly seems to be less common though so I do think they have improved things quite a bit since release.
  25. I'm in the same boat choosing between those cards. Personally looking at the Nitro+ and Gigabytes windforce card. Its a $40 difference on Amazon. Yesterday I ordered the 2070s basically out of fear of the driver issues on the 5700xt. I also have been running a Gigabyte windforce GTX 970 since 2014 ish and I still game on it to this day with zero issues so I figured I might as well go with what I know. From my research it seems that if you get the Red Devil or Nitro+ you should be good to go, similar performance with a cheaper price tag and they run cool/quiet. The only caveat is you run an increased risk of driver issues with the AMD card. Keep in mind this is based on my unprofessional opinion gained from lots of reading online not personal experience.
