KnowledgeByTech reacted to Paul Rudd in FREE $14.99 Game at EG April 1st - April 8th GET THIS ASAP
Welcome. Upon further research, I've discovered that there's more to the 3 settings I've mentioned. It does look like all 3 of them hold significant impact on fps and visuals. It's very tough to distinguish concrete results because the results are going to vary when you're in different areas of the game. Here is some results I've discovered that are pretty noteworthy.

Note, this is just with my hardware(6th gen i5/GTX 1070/1440p 144 Hz Monitor).

Shadows - Up to a good 30 fps impact from having them off vs having them on. The difference in fps between Low/High looks to be negligible. However, the difference between Low/High visually seems to be sharp vs soft. So it's safe to say this will be a personal preference of which one to go with if you have Shadows on. Low will be if you prefer a more sharp looking shadow. High will be if you prefer a more soft looking shadow. I personally prefer sharp, so I'm setting this to Low. Again, a reason to turn Shadows off is if you want/need that extra 30 fps.

Shadows GPU Usage - Around 10% more with Shadows ON.
Shadows GPU Power - Around 10% more with Shadows ON.
Shadows VRAM Usage - Around 80 MB's more when ON.

Ambient Occlusion - Up to a good 22 fps impact from having this on vs having this off. Visually, this is going to be a personal preference. Both look good imo. It's really going to boil down to whether or not you prefer AO imo. That subtle detail vs 20+ fps(in certain areas).

Ambient Occlusion GPU Usage - Around a good 22-24% more with it ON. < Very Noteworthy (creates more temp)
Ambient Occlusion GPU Power - Around a good 29-31% more with it ON. < Very Noteworthy (creates more temp)
Ambient Occlusion VRAM Usage - Around 50 MB's more when ON.

Anti-Aliasing - Up to a good 20 fps impact from having this on vs having it off. This fps impact is tough to spot because in most areas, it's not a 20 fps impact. It's more of a 1-3 fps impact(in most areas). I was able to discover the 20 fps impact though, in certain areas. Visually, the difference is very subtle. I want to say having AA on is basically FXAA. And having it off, is having it off. Which means, you're still gonna notice tiny jaggies, even with it on. Sit in one spot, to see what I mean. Having AA on does smooth out certain jaggies, but when you play the game in constant motion, you're really not gonna notice the difference. So imo, this setting is going to be a personal preference and a personal discovery(especially if you game in a different resolution than 1440p). I'm gonna turn it off because I want that 20 fps more than wanting the tiniest detail change when it comes to jaggies in motion. If while I'm playing the game it presents an obvious difference later on, then I'll change it, it's that simple.

Anti-Aliasing GPU Usage - Around 10% more with it on.
Anti-Aliasing GPU Power - Around 14-16% more with it on. < Might be noteworthy for those with less VRAM GPU's.
Anti-Aliasing VRAM Usage - Around 200 MB's more when ON. < Might be noteworthy for those with less VRAM GPU's.

P.S. One last thing to note. A weird discovery. There's one setting in the game that dramatically affects fps in the main menu. Ambient Occlusion. I found that by switching it from on vs off in the main menu, affects fps by 400+ fps. I went from around 144 fps with it on to around a whopping 544 fps with it off. This is something to just keep in mind. Not sure how it's going to affect when you play the game. Maybe it'll affect fps when you're in the air? Or when you're in closed rooms? Who knows. Just something to note imo.

KnowledgeByTech reacted to Egad in Where should I mount GPU's 120mm Rad & Fan?
I do rear exhaust.  Top mount also works.  The primary benefit of the hybrid cards is the ability to dump the heat outside the case.  Given you have a 280mm AIO for the I'd go rear, because I assume your top AIO is also exhaust, so that's three fans all exhausting in the top rear of the case.  At that point your only concern is dust if the case the case ends up negative pressure, depending on the air those three fans move vs whatever you have on intake duty.  For exhaust the only concern is that you're not pumping the hot air off your CPU tower cooler through the radiator, and since that's all going out the AIO, the only heat you're getting is off the VRMs.

Front mount isn't terrible unless you have a really small case with poor airflow.  In most setups even if you have the radiator on intake, it's not going to heat up the case any significant amount.  The only time I'd really get worked up over the hybrid on intake would be a super compact case where you have to go with a low profile like a NH-L9a or such and then mount the radiator literally right next to it, so you're blowing your GPU's hot air right onto a CPU cooler that is already fighting for its life.  When I had two 980Ti hybrids in SLI in a midtower, all the gain was purely in moving the heat away from the immediate vicinity of the cards.  Both rads exhausting out the top or intake on the front showed no difference.

KnowledgeByTech reacted to MartinKweh in Where should I mount GPU's 120mm Rad & Fan?
Depends on your cpu water cooler. If it is in an exhaust mounting to the case, placing the gpu cooler in the rear in an exhaust mounting will make it ok since the inside of the case is never hot. thus the only source of dust is the front intake fan, lowering the amount of maintenance done to the coolers.

Make sure a fan with a RPM signal is connected to the CPU fan header.

Its also possible that the AIO pump has failed, resulting in a 0 RPM reading and excessive temps triggering over temp protection.

If your fan / pump goes below 600 RPM, it will trigger the warning.

Situation: I work information and content that made me want two monitors. My passion involves art(not commercially yet) and gaming(not very competitive but likes 60hz and above along with good response time). The main monitor would be the gaming one but also view most content and good color production is nice to have. The second monitor would be used of course to view additional information but also be used for the art hobby. i need help to narrow down choices and the budget would be $300-$325 USD all together(of course lower price and better product is appreciated). A 32in and above 250 brightness would be holly grail things for me. I just don't want regrets and return stuff back and forth.
