mama_fluxus got a reaction from AkiraDaarkst in Multi camera live streaming
Id like to add that most of these transmitters are made for monitors where dropped frames aren't important. The Aputure one is a piece of junk in my experience, it drops so many frames at any distance over 15 feet.
Its important to have a high quality signal when transmitting the footage you are actually recording or streaming.
I'd recommend anything made by terradeck, that's what we use on live TV cameras in basketball stadiums for ESPN. I'm not sure of your price range but check out the Teradek Bolt 500.

mama_fluxus got a reaction from Guarino in "Unstitching" a 360 video?
Once the video is stitched by the software I'm pretty sure you're SOL. But, there might be some software that can undo it that I don't know about.

mama_fluxus reacted to Mihle in For the bleeping life of me I can't figure out how to upload 2k to youtube...
LOL
the K system is the pixels wide, not height.....
1920x1080 is 1920 wide, therefore 2k
2560x1440 is 2560 wide, therefore 2,5k
3840×2160 is 3840 wide, therefore 4k

What value does this photo have?

mama_fluxus reacted to AkiraDaarkst in Rate the Photo Above you
It's a snapshot of (I assume) a friend? I don't think I can even call this "street photography", there's no story here. It's literally just a snapshot. 0/10 judging by photographic value, but as a snapshot, it's a pretty decent one to capture a memory of your friend looking at the Statue of Liberty or whatever else is interesting out there.
To quote a discussion of what a Snapshot is vs a Good Photo:
Looks interesting, needs a LOT LOT LOT more work. 2/10
Looks like someone used an Instacrap filter. It's a nice idea to play with selective coloring, and might hold value if one looked at it symbolically. 3/10.

We once had no upload limit, and people uploaded 700+ MB zips to the forum. We're not a cloud service

mama_fluxus reacted to WereCat in What is bit rate?
This.
Also the reason why you haven't seen much of a difference between 30 and 130 Mb/s bitrate recording is because using GPU for capture requires huge amounts of bitrate to get good quality video. The main difference you could probably notice is that there is less pixelation when image is in motion on the 130 vs 30 Mb/s bitrate due to less approximation in compression.
If you used H264 on your CPU to capture the video you would notice that you get much higher quality with much less bitrate this however has a lot more performance hit than the GPU capture.
With 30 Mb/s bitrate using H264 on CPU you would get much better quality than with 130 Mb/s using Shadowplay.
Also you could probably match the 30Mb/s Shadowplay quality with as little as 3-5 Mb/s bitrate using H264 resulting in much smaller files.
However I wouldn't recommend recording 4k with such low bitrate if there is motion. For desktop capture it is fine but for games I would advise at least 10Mb/s or 20Mb/s ideal for 30FPS capture.
Note that it matters how much FPS does the capture has. To get the same quality recording on 60FPS you need double the bitrate you would need on 30FPS.
Same goes for resolution. Recording 20Mb/s FHD gives you better quality than recording 20Mb/s 4k since 4k has 4x as much pixels. To get the same quality on 4k you would ideally want 4x as much bitrate (in theory, in practice the math works a bit different).
Therefore if you have capable CPU I highly recommend you using OBS instead of Shadowplay.
Edited for more info.

Wow, that is a really bad article.
" While 5 percent may sound like a small number, it’s big for those installing thousands of servers running on the chips. Four-socket servers can have up to 88 CPU cores and run up a 20 percent gain in performance improvements. "
I'm pretty sure that's not how you add those numbers

It's not an issue. It is made to do this so it works better with GoPro software. You can't change it and there is no reason to.

mama_fluxus got a reaction from electrolux in Picking a Macro Lens for Weddings
Yeah on my lenses I've tested it on it slows the autofocus a lot. The auto focus is tuned to have the camera a specific distance from the sensor anything other than that and it will slow down.
The IS is important as I am usually shooting handheld and weather sealing isn't super important to me but it's defiantly a bonus.

mama_fluxus reacted to Aereldor in Picking a Macro Lens for Weddings
I know, but is it worth it to shell out a bunch for 'L' glass? Well, I suppose that's up to you. My recommendation remains to use the cheaper glass, but if you can afford the L variant and think the investment is justified, it's a great macro lens. I've only used the non-L variant when working with a friend who owns one, and I'd wager IS is a welcome addition.

The number of people who have said the same thing to me: countless
The number of them who have succeeded: Absolute ZERO!
The moment they realize the amount of time, effort and especially money they need to invest in the work, they run away with their tails tucked between their legs.

mama_fluxus reacted to AkiraDaarkst in Linus workflow confusion
FS7's internal XAVC codec is very good. ProRes is not really necessary, but people might still transcode to ProRes for perhaps editing performance issues with their workstations or use as proxy files. Same with RED cameras, their internal codecs are pretty good.

mama_fluxus got a reaction from AbrahamoLincolni in Lumia 1020 Camera. Fantastic or Fail? Your Opinion.
I think having 41 megapickles behind glass that can only resolve 20 megapickles of detail is pointless.
Its a good camera for a phone, remember its a phone not a camera.

mama_fluxus got a reaction from Vadise in Graining and how to get rid of it.
First off, That camera will show some grain in anything but a sunny day. Go test it outside on a sunny day and that will be your camera's optimal quality to shoot for.
You should to open the iris and make sure the shutter is proper using the 90 degree shutter rule. Then get as much light as you can on the subject until the grain looks similar to outside.

mama_fluxus reacted to AkiraDaarkst in This is so me! "The Dangers of Photography Addiction"
First, photography was a hobby, something I do for fun as a kid. It became I do because I enjoy doing it. Then it resulted in something I do part-time. Finally it's something I do for a living. Similarly with cinematography. And now I think I've invested in at least several thousands of dollars of photo and video camera gear and accessories, and I am going to be spending a few thousand more in the coming weeks.

mama_fluxus got a reaction from Technic77 in How to increase performance in AE and Premiere?
On a side note... Premium Beat has a ton of good tutorials and helpful articles, it's a great resource for all levels of video production.
AE will eat up everything you give it. That is bad for hardware enthusiasts, like the people who use this forum, as your all money will disappear.

So of those same YouTube models of hers started doing drugs and said it's cool to become an addict... she's going to do whatever they say?
Have you explained to him how much needs to be invested in using a photo camera for video? I don't see a list of audio, camera support, lighting, and if necessary focus and stabilization systems.

mama_fluxus got a reaction from tadhg in Canon t6i or Canon 70D?
I'd go for the 70D, but buy it used on amazon!
The 70D has the slight edge on video and is better by a large margin for stills. It's a good crossover camera for the price.
For lenses I'd recommend the canon 17-55 2.8, its a great all around standard zoom (buy it used on amazon too).
Edit: Make sure to use Linus's amazon link before buying

mama_fluxus reacted to AkiraDaarkst in Choosing Photo Print Paper
There's no set rule for using photo paper. You can decide to use something that has a glossy finish, semi glossy, no gloss, canvas, it's your judgement call. Use the one you feel that makes your photo look good. But if you use nice paper, make sure you use nice ink. Using cheap consumer printer ink on something like Ilford's gold fiber silk is not going to make the best use of what that paper can do. Look at the kind of pigmentation ink that printers like Epson's Stylus Pro 4900 uses. It uses more dyes than the standard RGB or CYM of a consumer printer.
If you're going to hanging your prints in a gallery, ask the gallery if they have any preferences. Same with if you use a lab to print, they can advise you.

mama_fluxus reacted to AkiraDaarkst in Is this a good camera deal?
When does this deal end, because it's a $500 price on something that normally costs $800. Now the only thing is that the G7 is a camera that's roughly one and a half years old and there is already a successor called the G85/G80. So I wonder if it's an actual savings or a precursor to a price drop.
Well even if it is a precursor to a price drop due to the release of a newer model, I don't think the price drop would be $300, in my opinion.
Of course 4K video will not be that great, but compared to other 4K cameras of the same price range or level, it's fairly competitive.

mama_fluxus got a reaction from ShadowCaptain in Favorite camera that you have used?
Most definitely it counts.
If I could get an FS5 for like 3,500 I'd buy one in a second. But, for now its too much to buy.

mama_fluxus got a reaction from Miller1218 in Favorite camera that you have used?
For photo, I've used a 1Dx mark 1 with 300mm f2.8 to shoot for a college football game. That camera and lens combo is ridiculous, incredibly fast AF and it takes pictures so fast that it almost takes the fun out.... almost.
For video, I've had access to a RED Epic Dragon for a day and the picture on that camera is incredible. Even without cine lenses, I used my sigma 18-35 f1.8 EF, the picture is insanely good. Plus the R3D codec is pretty sweet. The touchscreen makes the camera incredibly easy to use which is just the cherry on top.
Thankfully I got paid to use both of these cameras which made the whole experience more fun since I didn't have to worry about paying for it. I'd love to own both of these cameras if possible but it's not exactly economically feasible.
