This is so frustrating, there was another post indicating that the soft floor allowed cpus such as the i7-6700k and i7-7700k. But now that's questionable. This is an absolutely unacceptable clusterfuck from a large company.

JustAnotherOverClocker reacted to gjsman in Microsoft makes TPM issue worse: TPM 1.2 is actually NOT acceptable
    Summary
In an updated Microsoft document that previously listed hard floors and soft floors, Microsoft has clarified that TPM 1.2 is actually not acceptable in the soft floor and that everyone must, in fact, have TPM 2.0. So if you thought the requirement to have a TPM was bad before, the 1.2 version is actually not supported and Microsoft saying it was, according to them, was incorrect. (Bolded area by myself)

You thought the news that you must have a TPM was disruptive enough. Surprise - Microsoft was wrong in saying TPM 1.2 would be OK. You must have TPM 2.0 specifically. Fantastic.

JustAnotherOverClocker reacted to D13H4RD in [PSA] Met all the basic requirements but Microsoft's tool still says your PC can't run Windows 11? It might be your CPU, but don't throw them out yet.
Windows 11 is finally official, and as is typical for a major release for a desktop-level operating system, there seems to be a buzz of activity surrounding what it brings and what it can run on. Previously, there was quite a bit of buzz over Windows 11's strict requirements over having an enabled Trusted Platform Module (TPM), although it looks like a good amount of computers out there have a firmware-level TPM that is usually disabled inside the BIOS. A quick flick of the switch inside the BIOS usually deals with that assuming other requirements like GPT are met.

However, there has also been reports that despite having an enabled TPM and meeting or exceeding all other basic requirements, that Microsoft's PC Health Check tool continues to report a system not being able to run Windows 11. Given that these reports seem to stem from users of first-generation Zen-based CPUs alongside Intel CPUs ranging from Kaby Lake or older, does this mean that those generations of CPUs are worthless? Not necessarily.

Microsoft has done a very poor job of communicating this, but there are actually 2 floors of requirements for W11; a SOFT floor, and a HARD floor.
Think of it as something akin to the minimum and recommended requirements of a video game, although, as mentioned before, Microsoft hasn't exactly done a good job of communicating this at all. As such, Microsoft's own PC Health Check tool only reports the requirements as it akin's to the SOFT floor, which in this case, is a TPM module of version 2.0 or later, and a generation of CPU that's Intel 8th gen or later, or Ryzen 2000 series or later.

So essentially, so as long as you have a 64-bit CPU that has 2 or more cores, at a clockspeed of 1GHz or higher, assuming you met all the other requirements, you can run and install Windows 11.

    Summary

Following Microsoft's announcement that Windows 11 would only work with computers equipped with a Trusted Platform Module, a surge in demand for third party modules has overwhelmed the current availability from most major retailers. This, as you might have come to expect, has led to a shortage, which means unavailability, scalpers, bots, and price hikes.

It looks like US politicians are continuing to try to force backdoors into as many devices as possible. While this bill may actually be easier to bypass (Also See: Shell Companies), it's also significantly worse. Thankfully I believe that the tech companies have enough political lobbying pressure (fortunately/unfortunately) that neither this nor EARN-IT will pass.

    Summary
The Network fo the Defense of Digital Rights in Mexico (R3D) warns the public that a law has been aproved that would have consequences spanning internet censorship and even reduced freedom of speech online (something worse than the U.S Net Neutrality Act).

This law also means that users will not be ale to repair or modify their electronic devices unless they take them direcly to the manufacturer. Small repair shops will be illegal or prone to high fees; only the big manufacturers will be allowed to continue repairs. And if any device has a software lock, for example the 2018 MacBook Pro, it will be illegal to bypass it, and it will require you to go only to apple.

This also means that online censorship is getting to dangerous levels, before as it is pointed out in the article below, there have been entire online publication / newspapers taken down for governmental purposes , to cover up corruption, with the excuse of it infringes copyright law even though they were entirely original contetnt. Before government censorship was present but this law will give them the tools to take down any website or article without needing to provide any explanation at all.

While the articles do blow it out of proportion (from my glancing over it, and I am no lawyer), there are some kind of scary concepts in there.  It should be clear that it looks like a "voluntary" program (except there is a provision that makes parts of it mandatory)

The recommended best practices are created by a comitee (so there could be a lot less oversight, and they could create best practices that meet the requirement but completely mess up privacy)...except this is all good and well since it's "voluntary"...until it wasn't
Without really saying what a reasonable measure is...that essentially sets up any smaller company to comply or risk a costly court battle if anything happens.

JustAnotherOverClocker reacted to RejZoR in Epic Games Store banned entire ProtonMail e-mail domain
It has recently come to my attention that Epic Games Store is yet again doing another major screw up with very questionable motives and decisions. This time around by banning ENTIRE e-mail service domain pretty much "coz reasons". Specifically ProtonMail's domain "protonmail.com". So, if you have a ProtonMail e-mail address, you cannot use it to create account at Epic Games Store anymore. Neither you can change your existing e-mail to ProtonMail one. If you already have ProtonMail address used from some time ago, they will let you keep it. Which further proves the absurdity of their decision...

Epic's response to user inquiry on the situation:

Upon further inquiry, user got this response:
    And final response from Epic:

Specifically the last response is highly questionable. They claim ProtonMail, the e-mail service with highest levels of encryption, security and privacy that goes magnitudes above anything anyone else offers, somehow doesn't fulfill Epic's "security measures". Yeah sure Epic, you're gonna preach us about security when you just added 2FA to your own service after everyone was outraged of not providing one, where everyone else like Steam, Origin and even ProtonMail had it for ages.

This excuse also doesn't fly if they only do this because somehow free accounts are being abused. Because GMail, Outlook, GMX, one of worlds largest e-mail providers totally do not provide free accounts that can obviously be abused just the same as ProtonMail. Yet Epic is not just banning entire gmail.com, outlook.com or gmx.com domains. I wonder why?

    Original thread on Reddit:

Such behavior needs to be criticized because it's simply unacceptable and shouldn't happen to any e-mail service provider, no matter their size or number of users they have. Banning entire e-mail domain of a service provider just makes them look incompetent and lazy. And another reason they dropped chances of me ever buying anything on their store dead on to zero. Not that it was particularly high before anyways thanks to all the nonsense they've been doing through the past months...
