gloop got a reaction from BiG StroOnZ in A Guide To The LTT Forums
This is a guide to the LTT Forums, created by myself, @gloop. It will guide you through anything and everything there is to know about this great forum and the even better community.

It is quite a long guide, so I would advise you to read it on Dekstop, not on mobile.

Also, while this guides you through a lot of beginners questions, it is not a Quick Start Guide. If you do not have time to read this, I suggest your read @iamdarkyoshi's Quick Start Guide to the forums:

The guide will be split into different chapters, which are then split into subchapters. A Table of Contents will located at the top of the guide, and will assist you with navigating it.

[Chapter 0 - Navigation and Table of Contents]
[0.1 - How to Navigate this Guide]
       [0.2 - Table of Contents]

[0.1 - How to Navigate this Guide]

For this guide, I will be using the navigation that is also used in @Eschew's Introduction to Mechanical Keyboards. To navigate the post, use the key shortcut CTRL + F to bring up your web browser's search function. Then, look at the Table of Contents and find the Chapter or Subchapter's unique number. After you have located the number, proceed to type it into the box that appears in the top left corner of your web browser. To go to the result(s) that are found, press the Enter key. If there are multiple results, press the Enter key multiple times to browse through the results until you find the item you searched for.

       [3.2 - Choosing a Title]
[3.3 - Text Editor and Writing Your Post]
       [3.4 - Responding to Answers]

    [3.1 - Choosing a Subforum]

Before you start writing your post, one of the most important decisions is what subform to post it in. As I have listed all subforums above, I will leave it up to you to choose what subforum to post in.

If you have posted your topic in the wrong subforum, do not panic. Simply click the report button and select 'Posted in Wong Subforum' as the reason. The Moderators will then move it to the correct subforum for you.

    [3.2 - Choosing a Title]

When choosing a title, make sure it is relevant to the question/topic you are raising. People may not help if you use a vague title such as HELP PLZ or title.

For my example post, I will be asking for a Motherboard recommendation for my imaginary computer build. I used a title that was relevant and descriptive of the question I was asking.
[3.3 - Text Editor and Writing Your Post]

When you are creating your post, you will be typing the body inside of the text editor. There is a list of buttons in a row at the top, which I will go through here.

Preview Page Click on this to preview your post. Clear Editor  Click on this to clear the text editor Bold Text Click on this to make your text bold Italic Text Click on this to make your text italic Underline Text Click on this to underline your text Strikethrough Text Click this to give your text a strikethrough effect Link Click this to add a link to the post Quote Click this to add a quote box to the post Code Click this to add a code box to the post Spoiler Click this to add a spoiler box to the post Bulleted List Click this to add a bulleted list to the post Numbered List Click this to add a numbered list to the post Align Left Align the text to the left hand side Align Centre Align the text to the centre of the post Superscript Add a superscript effect to your text Subscript Add a subscript effect to your text Text Colour Change the colour of your text Emoji Add emojis to your post Remove Format Change your copied text to the default size and font of the forum/. Size Change the size of your text Font Change the font of your text Writing Your Post

When you are writing your post, try and think that your are going to be the one answering the post, rather than the one writing it. It is very difficult to answer a post if we have next to no info.

For my post, I am looking for a motherboard for a Ryzen 7 3700x. I will include:
My budget and currency CPU I will be using Stores I will be buying from Preferred size
    My post is as follows:
After you have finished writing your post and spellchecking it, click the Submit Topic button and your topic will be submitted!

    [3.4 - Responding to Answers]

Once you have submitted your topic, you should receive replies pretty quickly. I personally received 3 different replies in 5 minutes for my topic. Once you have read the replies, you will probably want to respond to them. To do so, we will go through the buttons at the bottom of each post.

'+' Button This is for multiquoting people. 'Arrow' Button This is for quoting people. Share the post Share the post using the URL or on Twitter, Facebook or Reddit. Mark as Solved This will set this reply to the 'best answer'. It will appear at the top of the post in green. Report this content Use this if the content is inappropriate or in the wrong subforum, and the moderators will deal with it accordingly. '@'ing Members as an alternative to quoting members, you can also '@' them.  To do this, first type the @ symbol, and then start typing the rest of their name. A pop-up box should appear under the text. Select their name, and the '@' should turn orange. It will now notify them when you respond. If we want to reply to some, we should use the Quote button. When you click this, it will automatically put their post in a text editor. Type out your reply and then click the Submit Reply button to submit your reply. The people you quoted will then receive a notifications, and so forth! And that's the basics of making a thread, and responding to people on the LTT Forums.

Once you are finished with your thread, remember to to mark one post as Solved so someone can see which was the best option in the future.

Alongside the row of buttons at the bottom of a post, there is also a Heart icon. This is where you can give reactions to posts. If you hover over the Heart icon, a pop-up list will appear which includes:
Heart Icon 'Like' the post 'i' Icon The post was Informative Laughing Icon The post was funny Tick Icon You agree with the post Whenever you react to a post, the author gets 1 reputation. You can view your current reputation count by going to you Profile, and then looking at the Community Reputation option.  Alongside this, you will see a word below the reputation count. Here is the list and count of reputation you will need for each upgrade:
0 Rep - Neutral 50 Rep - Liked 100 Rep - Helpful 250 Rep - Notable 500 Rep - Famous 1,000 Rep - Admired  2,500 Rep - Idolized 5,000 Rep - Legendary 10,000 Rep - Mythic 50,000 Rep - Awesomeness in a Box. There are currently only 2 users with more than 50,000 rep: @nicklmg and @Den-Fi. An admin has hinted that there are higher tiers, though we don't know the rep needed or the title that will be used.  [4.2 - Following Users]

If you find a user that you like, you are able to follow that user. You will then receive a notification when they post a status update. To follow a user, go to their profile. On their cover photo, there is a button labelled Follow Member. Click on it to follow the member.

    [4.3 - Status Updates]

To post a status update, click on your profile menu in the top left corner of the screen, then on Update Status. Type what you would like, and then click Submit Status. A notification will be sent to all your followers that you have updated your status.

Thanks, I am not really a user of either TikTok nor Instagram, so I was just trying to remember what I read on other #shorts videos 😅

I think all the #shorts content probably should be hidden from view on desktop platforms, plus it should easily link to the full video(s), otherwise it just seems like content that can be put on their YouTube Stories.
In my mind, the current #shorts format could work, but not like it is right now. What #shorts is probably going to be, is a way for YouTubers to quickly show what a certain video is about. It could be like titles or thumbnails are used now; or rather how an intro to a video is used now. A way to draw in viewers, but with #shorts there is a bit more info than a thumbnail/title and to hopefully compel the viewer to watch the full video.

We shall see though, if #shorts will get the development and changes it needs, or if YouTube just leaves it as-is with seemingly no change (like Premieres).

This is more similar to TikTok, YouTube Stories are the Instagram equivalent.

    Not for me it's not!

I just selected the link in the sidebar of the forum and it worked perfectly.

Edit: I've been in the server before and left; is it possibly letting people who were once members rejoin?
Edit 2: Yes, it appears that's exactly what it was.

    That would be extraordinarily difficult.

Tell you what, you figure out all the mechanisms and development to make sure that everyone has a fair shot at participating and no one cheats and we'll do it that way 😛

In response to everyone else, we know the communication wasn't perfect - some of that was because things kept changing so it got easier to say nothing than to keep saying things and correcting them - and part of it was to avoid a mad rush to get the ~100 GPUs we had. We didn't WANT every single one of our 13M subscribers to try to hit the store at the same time...

We're doing our best and we'll keep trying to improve. The drops will continue to be announced in the daily LTT video though for the time being.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Lot to unpack here. Big thanks to those who have shared details on how things worked, including posting some of the questions. Its obvious they are not going to use same set of questions, and any other info given is useful when answering questions here.

Yes. It would need to be done via Classifieds and within guidelines there.

Already gone when you posted. The current drops are done with LTT videos which are posted in roughtly same time every day. Any additional info, like whether timing or channel will change, will be in WAN. Also this thread has very informative posts.

    According to @Slick, some 20min.

Thats all on you. The information given in WAN Show was very clear.

Your interpretation on term "fair" is odd. The way this was conducted is still fair to humans. There are no "fair" things where everyone would have absolute same chance. Or rather, its called retailer. You go in, grab what you want and pay at checkout. Thats fair, right? The goal here wasn't to give every person in the world equal opportunity, but to give it to those with dedication.

Picking some points here. Pretty sure they are already doing #3. #4 would be lottery and require permit, and also not be available to everyone. There's difference in luck and skill based competitions. And I don't see how other points there would make this any more fair.

There are gonna be more. And I'm sure its taken into account that not all gamers are interested to learn history of their hobby. Would quiz about gaming events for past 2 years be fair to those who only play by themselves, not watching YT or Twitch? No, there are no ways to make quiz hard for bots and non-gamers, and at the same time easy for gamers. This was nice middleground. I, as semi-active gamer who has read a lot magazines, watched documentaries while not played the games could answer to most.

This drop apparently had link said in the video posted today. The link would have had quiz after which you could buy card from LTTStore.com. The page for that has been taken down for now, and will be available with different url when next drop happens.

    Around 6-7PM.

Apparently it was switched with another video. Or the part was cut out by YTs own tools.

The unfairness depends on perspective. You would still have to pay tax+import+shipping outside of Canada. And most of LMGs audience is North American (about 50%). So overall, it is rather fair for anyone who has dedication. It would be unfair if they didn't tell about it before, or required something obscene. But this was very clearly informed about weeks ago. Telling where the info would be published. They didn't disclose what kind of measurements were placed for rooting out bots, but that was expected. There's no point having security in place if you tell everyone what kind of security it is.

But just because an extremely bad power supply works, does that mean everyone should buy it? MGK64 Update - Monochrome
Very exciting package arrived at my doorstep today! New keycaps!

KAT Alpha + OEM Fog White Keycaps!
Not one, but two new keycap sets! 🥰

Yes, yes, 'Chew likes her blank keycaps, yada yada yada...

    WELL, EXCUUUSE ME.
This is exciting because I can finally move on to a full set of blank keycaps! Freaking meant to do this two months ago, but... Stupid 2U Shift. Grrr.

    And legends. Hrnnng...
The main thing about legends is more that I don't want to wear them down, and less that I feel like obstinately upholding some snobby, elitist, anti-conformist attitude. Thooo I will admit I do gain a non-insignificant amount of satisfaction from the attention the blanks sometimes net me.

...That sounded borderline pretentious, didn't it? I blame Homestuck. 'Chew is very easily influenced by her current obsessions. 😆

    MGK64 - Zealio V2 (Alphanumeric + Modifiers) + Halo Clear (Spacebar) Switches
Hm... I don't think I ever wrote my thoughts on the Zealios?
I think I avoided saying anything 'cos I found them sorta... unremarkable. Halo Clears and Hako Royal Clears have a sharper tactile bump.
Also, Topres. Been spoiled by 'em, and I vastly prefer Topre tactility over whatever soft-ish bump a mechanical switch can offer. 😅

MGK64 - Kailh BOX Jade (Alphanumeric + Arrows) + Kailh BOX Navy (Modifiers) Switches
I don't always go for clicky switches, but when I do, I go for Kailh BOX Jades/Navys.
    Consistent crisp clicks. 👌

KAT Alpha + OEM Fog White Comparison
    R0 | R1 | R2 | R3 | R4
KAT has rounded sides and rounded corners that collect into a barely noticeable dip in the keycap's center.
OEM has standard straight sides and a cylindrical-like dip over the keycap's surface.

    MGK64 + KAT Alpha Keycaps
    Goodness me.
Do y'all even understand the level of satisfaction and relief I am feeling right now.
Conquering that dumbo 2U Left Shift has been my greatest achievement this week. 😂

    MGK64 + KAT Alpha Keycaps - RGB

Kailh BOX Jade + Kailh BOX Navy Switches + KAT Alpha Keycaps (Slow)

    MGK64 - BOX Jades + BOX Navys + KAT Alpha (Slow).mp4

The other lovely thing about blank keycaps is, with distracting legends and ostentatious colorways out of the way, there's more focus on the keycap's physical profile and material. Like culling one of the five senses to amplify the sensations received by the other four.

For first impressions, I'm quite liking the KAT Alpha keycaps. Comfortable under the fingers, and visually distinct with its curved sides and corners. Not the most accurate description, but they're kinda like a hybrid between MT3 and OEM?

MT3 vs. KAT vs. OEM Profile Comparison
KAT shares a few similarities with both MT3 and OEM.

Only oddity is the KAT Alpha's PBT material is considerably smoother compared to every other PBT keyset that I've touched (Eighty #391's EnjoyPBT Blank Black PBT Keycaps, R2-968's Default PBT Keycaps, MGK64's Classic Dye-Sublimated PBT Keycaps), to the point where I'm slightly  whether it's actually ABS.

In terms of acoustics, currently, I can't get a firm grasp how the KAT profile affects sound. Mostly because my recording setup's changed since my last sound sample (Antlion Mod Mic vs. Samsung Galaxy S8+ Phone, lol). Comments might have to wait 'til I swap in those OEM Fog Whites.

But I'm not gonna play with the OEM Fog White keycaps juuust yet. Gimme some time to bask in my present victory over the 2U Left Shift, kek.

    Introduction
...More fool me, thinking that I could write this up in the meager five hours I had last night.

    I mean...

Hey there! Welcome to yet another ‘Chew keeb build log, featuring Den-Fi’s GK64! 🥰

    Den-Fi's GK64
    Received: October 15, 2020.

Running trend with my build logs (Hoshī, R2-968) seems to be that the object goes through a full disassembly and reassembly, lol. Same-ish thing here -- bought some new parts specifically for the GK64, and I'm swapping them in! Been itching to fiddle with this board for a while now.

    Name
    Meaning of "MGK64" is twofold:
GK64: A reference to the keyboard's model, of course. MGK: Shortened from 万華鏡 (まんげきょう, or "mangekyou"), meaning "kaleidoscope." Merge the two together, out pops "MGK64." Sorta like me mushing my real name together to get "Eschew." 😉

To me, the GK64 represents active change and experimentation -- very unlike the Eighty #391, which I want to perfect as my "endgame" keeb, and unlike the R2-968, which has very restricted upgrade paths. Like a kaleidoscope, the GK64 would be something that changes its patterns every once in a while. Switches, keycaps, cases -- so on and so forth. Thankfully, it’s small enough that a few mods here and there won’t absolutely murder my wallet, and it being a compact keeb means there’ll be plenty of compatible parts available*.

    *Theoretically.
(We'll get to that, later. 😆)

万華鏡 is also a reference to Lunatic Kaleidoscope by GET IN THE RING:
    Song Lyrics (First Chorus):
Based off a translation by Releska.

    So, there. Kaleidoscope ⇒ 万華鏡 (まんげきょう, or "mangekyou") + GK64 ⇒ MGK64.

Also brainstormed some other names, but those were scrapped in favor of MGK64:
Argo/Delias: Ship of Theseus themes. I'm aware that the Argo was Jason's ship, and that Theseus's ship doesn't have an explicitly stated name. GK64-1616: 1616 ⇒ いろいろ ⇒ 色色 ⇒ "Various Colors." GK64-X: "X" for "Experiment." GK64x is an actual product, however. 変わるもの: "Thing that Changes." ...But it's a mouthful, and not everyone cares about Japanese, or is a weeb like I am.

Y'know, 'Chew very briefly thought about streaming the process.

...Friggin' thank goodness I didn't, LMAO. Disassembly was smooth 'cos I've done it once before, but the reassembly took me a ridiculously dumb and ridiculously excessive amount of time.

    Disassembly Process
    Easy peasy. 👌

    GK64 - Plate-Mounted Stabilizer Removal
Plate-mounted stabilizers have this clip thing that needs to be pushed before the stabilizer housing can be removed from the plate.
[Grunting noises as I struggle with the spacebar stabilizer.]

    GK64 - Plate-Mounted Stabilizers Removed
...Stupid spacebar stabilizer. 'Chew definitely prefers screw-ins.
    Stabilizers. Screw-in stabilizers. Of course.

    [Immature giggling.]

    GK64 - PCB + Mounting Plate Backside
At this point, the PCB and plate are still a unit held together by the six screws pictured above.

GK64 PCB - Mounting Plate Removal
    [Screwy noises.]
    😏

GK64 PCB - Mounting Plate Removed
Aaand... BOOM! The GK64's all disassembled!
Now to tack it with the new mounting plate and case!

    Reassembly Process
Don't be a dumb-dumb like 'Chew. I'd suggest reassembling the GK64 in this order:
Mounting Plate + Plate-Mounted Stabilizers + Corner Switches GK64 PCB + Mounting Plate GK64 PCB-Plate Sandwich + All Switches GK64 PCB-Plate-Switches Sandwich + Case More like re-()-ssembly... There was definitely a lot of backtracking and butt-clenching involved when I was doing it. 🤣

Mounting Plate Comparison - Aluminum + Fiberglass
    Left: Frontside. Right: Backside.

    Mounting Plate + Plate-Mounted Stabilizer
Correct alignment is with the stabilizer's wire on the same side as the smaller notches in the mounting plate's stabilizer cutout.
It's literally that toddler shape-sorting toy -- stabilizer only goes in one way, so match the stabilizer's housing's physical profile to the cutout.

    Mounting Plate + Plate-Mounted Stabilizer
Insert the stabilizer in at an angle, and slide the stabilizer wire under the mounting plate. Finish installing the stabilizers by pushing down on the stabilizer housing until it lies flush against the mounting plate.
    Think, M.2 SSDs.

    Zealio V2 Switch
    Purdy purple!
Time to break out the switches!

Mounting Plate + Plate-Mounted Stabilizers + Corner Switches
    One, two, skip a few...
This was the part where 'Chew was being dumb and jumped the gun. Apparently a few hours passed before I got to this stage.
...A lot of backtracking was involved.

    GK64 PCB + Mounting Plate
Once the holes are aligned with the switch's pins, push it in real good.
Fiberglass plate can be a bit finnicky -- there's no screws holding the plate to the PCB, so the plate can get loose under the switch. Just apply a bit o' patience. 😅

GK64 PCB + Mounting Plate + Aluminum Case
Dooooooooon't be a dumb-dumb like 'Chew and don't do the above.
I'd recommend installing the rest of the switches into the PCB first. Before screwing the PCB into the case.

    GK64 - Switches Installed
This is usually the point where I test all the keys with Keyboard Checker. Easier to straighten out bent switch pins at this stage of the reassembly. 👍

    GK64 + /dev/tty MT3-Profile Keycaps
Switches good? Next, keycaps! ALMOST DONE!
    ALMOST--

    GK64 - Left Shift Key
    Excuse me what is that.
    ...Pain.
    Suffering.
Why. Why is it 2U, FFS.

    GK64 + /dev/tty MT3-Profile Keycaps...?

    GK64 + Classic Keycaps
    ...Okay. Okay.
This is far less offensive than the other... thing... just now.

    GK64 - Acrylic Diffuser
    Lit!
Makes excellent use of the GK64 PCB's lighting. 🥰

    GK64 - Acrylic Diffuser

    Sound Samples
Also, for the KAT Alpha sound samples (plus the future ones), I used a different recording setup; audio quality will probably sound markedly different compared to previous sound samples.

    Legacy Sound Samples
Sound samples recorded with the phone. Expect terrible audio quality.
Note that for the MGK64, I did change the mounting plate and case, which will probably affect acoustics.

    Current-ish Sound Samples
Sound samples recorded with the Antlion Mod Mic. Expect less-terrible audio quality.

    Post-Build Opinions
Dang, I don't have tea to sip. Wellp, this bottle of wine should do instead. 🤣

Question: Would you recommend the GK64 as a starter custom keyboard to get into the hobby?
    Answer: Uh............... No.

It pains me to write this, because I received the board as a lovely, lovely gift from Den, and I will always treasure it as such. But I do have thoughts about the physical product now that I've intimately touched groped fondled examined it, and I felt obligated to share them. Would be especially useful for those tempted to buy a GK64 (or other GK variants, like the GK87S).

I will agree that it’s cheap, and I will agree that the Bluetooth variants are nifty. But () the thing about custom keebs that I love is that they're customizable. Tired of the current board and feeling whimsical? A quick parts switcheroo, and a custom will change how it looks, feels, and sounds. The moment the manufacturer decides to use some proprietary, non-standard layout, or decides to sacrifice customizability for cost-savings, I lose interest very quickly, and I feel that’s what happened with the GK64.

    GK64 - PCB + Default Mounting Plate

GK64 PCB - 2U Left Shift Key: Hands-down, this is the strangest oddity on the board. Most keebs and keycap sets offer 2.25U Left Shift options. The GK64 has no alternative physical layouts and is stuck with it's nonconventional 2U Left Shift, which many keycap sets -- like the /dev/tty MT3-Profile Keycaps above -- do not accommodate. Adding to the issue, this specific key is the only one on the PCB that does not accept PCB-mounted and screw-in stabilizers -- the Left Shift will only use a plate-mounted stabilizer. All other stabilizer keys have holes cut out for screw-in and PCB-mounted stabs. Just... wat.  The 2U Left Shift being compatible with only plate-mounted stabs leads to my next gripe. GK64 Mounting Plate: Mounting plates are sorta tied with stabilizers; plates compatible with plate-mounted stabs will have irregular cutouts that should accommodate the stabilizer housings, while plates for PCB-mounted and screw-in stabs are just regular squares. Rectangles. Shapes. (I'm drunk? 🥂) The most ubiquitous aftermarket mounting plates are those for PCB-mounted/screw-in stabs, and most aren't compatible with the GK64's odd 2U Left Shift. KPrepublic thankfully carries a variety of GK64-compatible mounting plates, but TBH the selection isn't impressive (very thankful I found the fiberglass mounting plate at all, lol). Oh, and I couldn't use the default aluminum mounting plate in the aftermarket case because the mounting holes are off, and I didn't have the tools to mod the mounting plate to fit. Plus, the astute and OCD-sensitive might notice that the switch cutouts on the default plate aren't perfectly horizontal; this actually does affect how the switches and keycaps are aligned on the board. More strikes against the GK64. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ How-e-ver!

My standards are different from other people’s standards. Maybe that curious newbie wanting to delve into custom keebs only wants the board to be hot-swappable, have RGB lighting, and have a bit of convenient wireless functionality. In that case, the GK64xs is an easy recommend. But for people like me, always on the lookout for newer, more interesting keebs, switches, keycap sets, and other thangs, cutting corners on compatibility leaves a sour () taste in my mouth. Eventually, I’m going to hit a brick wall if I try to customize it any further.

Haven't put in the effort to search for alternatives to the GK64 (I... blame the drink? 🍷), but I believe there are more customizable options with better aftermarket compatibility out there. The DZ60 comes to mind, usually available from KBDfans. 🤔

    Closing Comments
Why did I think drinking while writing was a good idea. Hopefully I can words and sense make. 😶

Much thankies for taking an interest in the build log and reading this far! The GK64 is a humble board, but if you found it entertaining or interesting, all the better! 😁👍
Extra special thankies to @Den-Fi! For the GK64, and for letting me experience and experiment and learn with it. Disassembling the keeb was such a simple thing, but studying it in-person significantly expanded my existing knowledge on custom keebs.

Taking this keeb with me to the grave, thanks. No one touch it without muh permission, pls.
Except Den. Den has all the permissions.
    ...Y'all think I'm joking?
