Newblesse Obblige got a reaction from BiG StroOnZ in Is it normal to have screen tearing on battery or using AMD iGPU at 60Hz whenever I play a video, especially on Youtube?
I could but I don't want to switch browsers just to play.

My TUF A15 (2023) is having some screen tearing at 60Hz. Idk why that happens and it is annoying. Freesync is on yet it still occurs. I already reinstalled drivers (I used DDU to uninstall). Is it because I set the power limit of my PC too low?
The fix I found was turning the hardware acceleration off but I needed that for the web-based games I play so should I just turn it on whenever I gonna use hardware acceleration?

Your manual seems to indicate it can be charged via the right Type C port.

Three pointing to the GPU, one pointing to the CPU and one pointing to the OS. So I would return this machine on the warranty.

Thats meant more for something that’s out of date and then an unrelated person comes in and adds a comment when the topic is already clearly dead.

Not sure about the forum rules, but either is fine with me.

Word of warning: Don't disable TPM if you're using Bitlocker! Or create a backup first.

Newblesse Obblige reacted to ImWilly in Is a clean installation the best option to fix this? Asus TUF A15 FA507NV
It was a fresh Windows 11 clean install, but I had a random BSOD
I only did the standard one though, then followed with CMD:
    dism/online/cleanup-image/restorehealth
    and the problem is fixed
Since you have it done by scanning and repair through WinToys (should have no difference doing directly at CMD or via WinToys), I'm kinda out of idea

If doing that doesn't work, I think it's either some hardware internal issue (older laptop sometimes has this problem because of loose SATA cable, but since your laptop is using NVME drive, it shouldn't be the case) or just a bad luck with bad windows installed

Hopefully, if there are still no better solution, a clean fresh install might just be the solution

Well, there's is a possibility, but not likely the cause
Although Windows does a good job on keeping updates for most thing, except for third party app like WinRar, 7-Zip, VLC, etc
And shouldn't Asus has their own proprietary software to control RGB and updates as well (not for WinRar, 7-Zip, VLC, etc though)?
Well then, if running CMD and ensure no conflicting apps installed doesn't fix it, you can try "Windows Memory Diagnostic"
When I just finished on my PC build, it does BSOD with no clear reason and I haven't install app to analyse it. After running the memory diagnostic app, letting my PC restart and run for some time, the BSOD is no longer happened

Yes, Armory Crate is the Asus software for that stuff.

@Newblesse Obblige make sure you check Armory Crate, and verify it's actually updated everything.

I'd be surprised if you didn't have control over RAM speeds on an ASUS TUF series laptop. It's a pretty basic feature on most BIOS's

if going for a SATA drive based external drive, note that there's honestly nothing different between the controllers that are in OEM ones, or DIY ones.

for the speedy nvme drives, the benefit of DIY'ing is that you have control over which exact drive goes in, whereas the OEM ones you can assume it's the most basic unit possible.

Yes exactly! There is no need to go for a full speed 3GB/s or more SSD if its going to be limited my USB-Speeds (1GB/s in most cases)

Newblesse Obblige reacted to kokosnh in DIY or Pre-built/Branded External SSD?
Depends on the USB you have available.
usually it's better to buy enclosure and good SSD by yourself, performance wise.
I have 20Gbps orico and 2TB CS3140 SSD in it.

DIY will also be cheaper tho it can be hit or miss with compatibility.

I used a m.2 to USB-C enclosure once and had no problems getting it working with a offbrand m.2 SSD.

A friend of mine tried the same and had a lot of compatibility problems and ended up buying a prebuild one from Samsung-

Newblesse Obblige reacted to Drevo Dano in Is it possible to replace the PCB of my old power bank to a modern one with PD 3.0 and QC 3.0?
That makes more sense. Then yes. One of these boards would work just fine. You should be able to just swap the original PCB for this one. You'll have to adjust the casing, that might be challenging. Also, make sure the battery cells are in the right configuration. The one I linked requires 3.7V meaning the cells should be in parallel. I would assume the same is true for all of these but read the documentation, please.

SATA mode for dell defaults to raid on.
You need to set it to AHCI for the drives to show in Clonezilla.

Don't worry, in due time with diligence, patience, a pinch of hard work and heck lot of luck, you will build your dream PC and graduate from your Uni.

In a meanwhile, a great performance laptop should be a better fit for you (that is my personal opinion anyway), and it's worth to sacrifice battery life

Newblesse Obblige reacted to ImWilly in Do you think it is worth it to sacrifice battery life for perfomance in my use case?
I am actually indecisive of RTX 40 series, but if there is a great deal, I think it's worth a shot

It depends, if that is your one and only piece of tech and you don't have a PC, having performance Laptop is a better choice. The same goes if you have dedicated PC, a mobile and great battery laptop would be a good choice.

I will elaborate comparison between ASUS TUF A15 (AMD Ryzen 9) and ACER PREDATOR HELIOS NEO 16 (Intel i7 13th Gen) in CPU, here is my general rules of thumb of pro and cons:

    Intel:
Pro - Higher gaming performance when plugged
Cons - Not great when battery powered, and generate more heat

    AMD:
Pro - Better performance in battery management, which means you can use it longer when in class/outdoor. Not generate heat as much as Intel counterpart
Cons - When plugged, it performs less than Intel, especially in high power limit

So I would suggest to choose ASUS TUF A15 as your daily driver and mobile activity

The tuf a16 won't work for half the stuff you want it to do.

The helios is heavier, larger and less portable whilst also having the least battery life.

The a15 is the best here for you with about 5 hours of battery tops.

Newblesse Obblige reacted to jaslion in Which of these laptops is the best choice? I'm using it for college
So nvidia it is as amd has NO acceleration in blender OR solidworks at all. Using the cpu to render is easily 10x slower if not more.

The tuf is at least pretty portable but the battery isnt too great. However none of these have great really great batteries.

8gb is NOT going to cut it so it needs and upgrade asap.

Newblesse Obblige reacted to aboodma in Which of these laptops is the best choice? I'm using it for college
the best choice for you will depend on your specific needs and preferences. If you prioritize battery life and portability, the TUF A16 may be the best option for you. If you plan on using demanding software like SOLIDWORKS or Blender, the Helios Neo 16 may be the best option. If you prioritize gaming and media consumption, the TUF A15 may be the best option. If you prioritize multitasking and productivity, the Legion 5 may be the best option if it is within your budget.

It has NO gpu acceleration due to using a amd gpu. So it's the worst choice.
