Tan3l6 reacted to Mark Kaine in 3DMark score variance anomaly
the result with lower score has the cpu about 3c hotter and clocked 100mhz lower... that is literally it... normal boost behavior...
and thats why i said these benchmarks dont necessarily tell you much, even when they're fairly accurate.
so if you do this next time make sure the temps are the same between runs, then the results should also be very similar!

Tan3l6 reacted to alyen in 3DMark score variance anomaly
Is the system doing anything in the background?
Could the CPU or GPU be throttling? How much time between each run?
I haven' bother to use Fire Strike for so long.

Tan3l6 reacted to Mark Kaine in 3DMark score variance anomaly
honestly, while i really like firestrike... the whole benchmark suite doesn't seem too reliable, ie there are definitely some bugs...
its also more useful to find actual issues (eg. overheating etc) than to say "oh look how good my scores are"... that is generally utterly irrelevant in regards to how a system performs in actual workloads.
That said, i would try some other benchmarks, simply to see if there's still an issue...
Prime 95 for cpu, superposition for gpu... (typically max or close to max settings)
And if that still isnt conclusive, my fav: Prime95 + superposition *at the same time* (just keep your temps in check and be ready to abort, because, man, its gonna be *really* hot! 🙂 )
just a suggestion... what i would do... to see if there really is a problem...
*edit: and by abort i mean prime95, cause that is likely the main cause for heat and power draw in my experience.

I guess the updating is left to user, yes. And yeah - it's a Chromium fork.

Tan3l6 reacted to GuiltySpark_ in Difference between two monitors
Both are VA, and cheaper VA with all the downsides that come with that. In that price bracket my go-to suggestion is always the Gigabyte G27Q and if you can swing it the M27Q. Both IPS.
As for HDR, it doesn't exist at this price point and they're lying to you on the box.. kind of. HDR signals are supported but you have to spend $800+ for a display that can display an HDR image.

Tan3l6 reacted to StixuYT in Weird artefacts appearing on screen randomly
Hmm, thank you, It was just very weird to see these happen ONLY on Chrome, thanks for solving the mystery lol, a quick search reveals that a lot of people combat this exact artefact, appreciate it

I have a newer generation Nvidia GPU, also having the same issue. Only happens with Chrome.
Not too upset with it, 3D works without any glitch.

Only partially. The real time latency is the same, but the transfer speeds are still different

3.18GB Usable in System specs is strange. If other means won't help perhaps reseat the RAM stick(s) to another slot.

Tan3l6 reacted to Angusticlavii in My PC is not using all ram
I did a quick google search and it seems to be a common bug on 1st gen Intel. Over at TomsHardware someone got it fixed by resetting the CMOS of the Motherboard. But they dont really know why this happens - seems to be a bug
I would recommend updating your motherboard BIOS and resetting the CMOS

Back up all the data you care about, unplug the hard drive, wipe all the partitions off the SSD, and do a clean installation on your SSD.

"What PSU" is a valid question, as an unknown brand or bad quality branded PSU might snap, crackle and pop.

Tan3l6 reacted to Beerzerker in Why do CPUs need to be so cold when overclocking?
When a chip gets cold that makes it become a "Super Conductor" so it can do more with the same voltage, BUT to reach the speeds the chip is capable of along with the voltages needed to get there, that where the cold really helps.
It's not a matter of thermal rating such as 90C being the limit - It's all about removing every last bit of heat from the chip so it can tolerate the voltages used and not burn up on the spot.
Freeagent put it simply enough here:
Heat is the enemy of all electronics anyway and in this case it's like a Super Villain when it comes down to it vs obtaining the clockspeeds the chip can do, so you need a hero and Ln2 is the hero that saves the day.
I've done enough benching on Ln2 to have ran into things like, for example the paste cracking and hindering what I could get and I've also had some really nice runs too when the TIM and all else just worked.
Correct - The cold causes the condensation to form and you have to insulate the board for avoiding problems with water causing issues or even killing the system.
I know many say to use vaso but vaso itself can cause problems because of the mess it makes. It does work but a grease made for such situations is better to use and that would be dielectric grease for moisure proofing/sealing and coating components in general.
I could go way into things about insulating vs the cold and can do that if I must but that's the basics of it, keep the water away from the components and bench on.
And this is my 1st gen T-Rex pot I've modded along the way for getting the results I do.

Tan3l6 reacted to John481912 in Thread for Linus Tech Tips Video Suggestions
Here's a video that EVERYONE would be watching. I've searched everywhere online and there's no new tests (in the last 1-2 years, all these browsers changed greatly).
Compare Performance, Efficiency AND LIFE BATTERY of all major Browsers and both a new Intel and AMD Laptop (preferably latest Gen.) on Windows 11.
The test should include: Chrome, Edge, Vivaldi, Brave, Firefox
All in Default Settings
All while: Watching Youtube, Watching netflix, Doing Online Meeting (I don't know which web-based clients are popular, I always use Jitsi Or Element Call), Doing normal Internet Surfing

Make sure there aren't any browser plug-ins installed that you don't recognize. There are at least two for Chrome that replace all images with photos of Nicolas Cage.
