Man are you seeking validation for your choices? That means you are deep down unsatisfied, or care too much about other people opinion. If you like it than what's the problem?

With all that money spent on RGB, you coulda built another gaming PC..

In that case you only option is to use jumper or take out battery.

Then a good quality paste application could be the answer.

You should keep something in mind though: a lot of consumer grade laptops out there are basically "designed" to reach stupid temps and throttle down, as they where intended for office/multimedia use, not for gaming/ continuous load, and as such this throttling issue would only show itself during windows updates/ program installs/ compressing files.

So, yes, a fresh paste application is you go-to potential solution, but even with the best paste application, it's also possible you still have the same issue afterward... just 10-15 in instead of 5-10 minutes in your gaming session.

The lack of air intake doesn't mean it shouldn't get a fan+fin clean.

Also, I would say that in most cases, thermal paste in laptops start turning into dry concrete around the 2-3 years mark. Sometimes less in sub-par end laptops, in which I admit I would place the x552L.
And given it was sold from what I found with windows 8, it's way past the 3 year mark.

Have you cleaned and repasted it yourself?  Do you place it on hard surface and dont cover intakes?

Do you still have free sata ports left? There are eSATA drives you could use, albeit USB 3.0 might be easier to setup/use.

The GPU will fit into the case.

The motherboard M.2 heatsink shouldn't interfere either, this is kind of how it will look (the motherboard is about 243mm wide):

Just be sure to install an M.2 SSD before installing your GPU. As you likely can't get to it after installing a GPU.

RainingTacco reacted to mariushm in i have a ATI Readeon B629 (old) is there anyone interested in it?
It's not worth even 2-3$. It has that DMS-59 connector, which means you need to buy an extra adapter cable that converts that connector to 2 DVI or 2 VGA connectors.
It doesn't have Windows 10 drivers. Even Windows 7 drivers may be hard to find.

You can buy newer cards like HD 5450 or HD 6350, some with regular DVI and DisplayPort for less money, here's a couple random ebay search results:

Look at the graphic of the motherboard spec you just shared. It is limited to 20Gbps (PCIe 2.0 x4). You need a PCIe 3.0 x4 slot to allow full performance. For the limitation, your speeds look correct.

Doesn't seem like anything is coming out. Should be some renders at the very minimum if they were coming out soon.

Considering companies are releasing B450 boards with updated BIOS chips and out of the box support for Ryzen 3000? I think B550 is practically dead.

Your CPU will be the bigger bottleneck for high refresh rate. You will be able to run 1440p at medium/high, depending on the game. I used to have a 4790k and a gtx 1080.
