  1. This was in the local news today: Canadian tech influencer Tony Aube was in Brussels, on his way to the airport to fly back to the Americas, when his bag got stolen at the train station. The police couldn't help him much and he was stuck until the embassy opened on Monday because his passport was in the stolen bag, so he decided to dedicate his weekend to tracking his stolen bag. He ended up discovering the thieves and, by signaling everything to the police, managed to uncover and arrest them and their whole gang which were running a business in stolen goods. 2. Okay, I was already afraid of this but it's good to have confirmation. Thanks for replying!
  3. Hi, I have a colleague who always comes to me with technical issues. Last week, her phone died overnight: it was working without issues one evening, she plugged it in to charge overnight (I know this isn't good for the battery and told her so). In the morning when she woke up, the phone didn't give any signs of life anymore. It does nothing when attempting to start it normally, but it also doesn't budge when holding the power button for 30 seconds, holding volume keys (separate or simultaneously) while also holding the power button, and even the hard factory reset combination of volume up + home + power doesn't do anything. She purchased a new phone but her old phone was apparently set to not sync anything to the cloud because she was paranoid that some criminal could use it to take over her phone and spy on her. That is a bit of a problem because she used that phone for her 4 jobs and has stuff stored on it that she would really need to recover. I've ordered a new battery from iFixit and just finished installing it into the old phone, but still it doesn't budge. Can anyone advise me here if there is a way to still get contacts, messages and media off the device if it doesn't react to anything? Any help would be appreciated.
  4. I had no more stutters or BSODs since my clean install so I hope it'll work for you too. The easiest way to perform one is to download the Windows installation setup onto a USB drive or use an installation disc if you have one (there are tools to create a bootable USB from an ISO file). Just plug the USB into your computer, make sure that the boot order is set to use the USB/disc before your SSD/HDD and the setup should start automatically. Just make sure to back up any files you don't want to lose before you start.
  5. I don't know what else to try (but I'm no pro either so someone else may have more ideas). I also installed a new system in December and already had to do a clean install 2 weeks ago, so I definitely feel your pain. I still don't know the exact cause of my issue but it is solved now so if you don't find anything else, it's definitely worth a try. If you go for a clean install, make sure to download drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's site.
  6. A week passed and no stutters or BSODs happened, so massive thanks for helping me out there (even though I hated every second of doing the clean install lol). Kudos to you!
  7. I finished the clean install yesterday evening, spent hours of setting everything up correctly and carefully installing each driver individually with 20 minutes of Youtube testing in between to pick up the stutter as soon as possible if it returned. If I never have to go through a Windows 10 setup again it'll be too soon I think. For now I haven't encountered any stuttering yet, but I'm gonna test it for another week or so in case it comes up later (you never know). Will update post and mark answer next weekend if it's not back by then.
  8. Reseating* (typo, sorry) is the process of removing the component, checking if everything looks find and putting it back in, and see if that helps.
  9. Update: Tried changing SATA cables for both HDDs, tried changing the SATA ports they were connected to and tried disconnecting them. Issue still persists. Will try to plug my SSD into the other M.2 slot tomorrow, if that doesn't help the clean Windows install will be for next weekend probably.
  10. I would not assume that. If your secondary drive has bad sectors and your computer tries to access data on it, that may be the cause for your crashing. As for the drivers: unfortunately not so easy to pinpoint, and doing a clean Windows install is also no guarantee because Windows automatically installs several updates during the OS installation these days. Perhaps a dump file can tell us more but if you don't have one we'll either have to guess which ones could be the problem, or wait for another crash and see if it creates a dump file then. As for the creation of dump files: go to Control panel > System > Advanced System Settings (left side) > Advanced > Startup and Recovery > Settings. Make sure the Write an Event to System Log is checked.
  11. I found this on a quick Google search: Locate the following file and open with any text editor (like Notepad): C:\Users\[Username]\Documents\Assassin's Creed Syndicate\AC.ini In the file, find the parameter WindowMode=2 and change it to WindowMode=1. See if that helps - it did for most people in that other thread. I suspect it sets the game to borderless windowed (fullscreen) which solves the issue for them. EDIT: a second option would be to go to your display settings and setting scaling to 100%. The warped view may be caused by the game not liking Windows at other scalings (like 125% which is often default for laptops with small monitors).
  12. Thank you for that reply - I'm not savvy enough with the fine details to go delving into the dump files and such, but I will try your suggestions during the weekend when I have some time. As for hibernation or standby, those are not the cause I think. Since my computer boots as fast as it wakes from standby or hibernation, I never use those - I always to full shutdown. I will let you know when I've tried your suggestions, but it may take some time as the issue doesn't seem to have a specific trigger so it's hard to determine if it's fixed or not. Thank you again!
  13. Please read this thread about asking for help with BSODs. This IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL error indicates faulty system files. It could be caused by several things, like a defective part of your motherboard or other component, an incompatible driver update... The system files you listed have various uses: tcpip is related to your networking, win32kfull has something to do with device drivers, nvlddmkm.sys is related to the display. KMODE EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED is caused by apps overwriting each other's memory. KERNEL SECURITY CHECK FAILURE has several causes but looking at your other errors it is most likely a driver issue or a failing storage device. PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA is linked to Windows being unable to find data on a device, like a hard drive with bad sectors. Have you tried swapping (or unplugging) your HDD or SSD and seeing if the problem persists? If these are fine, I'd suspect a buggy driver causing the issue.
  14. Hmm. Does it happen immediately after launching the game? You could try running the game in windowed mode so you can still see the resource monitor, but I don't know if that reduced load will also trigger the problem. Another option is borrowing a 2nd monitor to do this. As for other options... Have you looked at driver updates? Tried reseeding CPU and/or GPU?
