  2. So basically I was given an 'older' PC by a family member, and the specs aren't anything special, but I think I can make something out of it. Specs: CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 RAM: 4GB I was thinking of just buying a cheap graphics card, and putting it all in one of my old cases. The card I have in mind is an Asus GeForce GT210 1GB. I don't intend on using this for heavy gaming, just some office work, browsing, watching videos, and maybe some light gaming. What do you think? Is there anything that could go wrong, and is the GeForce GT210 okay? Cheers
  3. I would love to win, I've wanted a NUC for a while but never got round to buying one.
  4. ok thanks, do you know if there is a way that i can keep my data when i reinstall?
  5. Basically, I built a PC a few months ago, however, I have recently decided to get a new motherboard. When I replace it, what will happen to windows, will it work?. I'm using windows 7 home premim (OEM). I am really worried that I will have to re-buy windows. Please help
  6. Ok, so im gonna be upgrading my motherboard (and that is all) from this: http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/760GMAP34_FX.html#hero-overview to this: http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/970_GAMING.html#hero-overview Im really worried as i dont want to hav to reinstall windows. dont know if this is relevant, but they are both am3+ and made by MSI. as i said, no other parts will be upgraded. wat do i need to do?
  7. Thanks, to be honest, the red on the MSI is very minimal, so it shouldn't mattter. Think i'm gonna go with that
  8. So, I'm going to be upgrading my motherboard (and case) soon, and can't decide between two. Socket: AM3+ Colour Scheme: Black/White (I will have white LEDs in the case) Mobo 1: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga970aud3p OR Mobo 2: MSI 970 Gaming http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-970gaming Both are around the same price (£65-£70). Don't really know which one is better, or if the red on the MSI board will ruin my colour scheme. Any info on alternative boards is appreciated too. Thanks for the help Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P
  9. I also need the screens to have vesa mounting holes on the back, so i can attach it to the stand
  10. So I'm on the market for a set of 2 new monitors, and a decent stand for them. This is what I've found, and to me it looks good, but I'm not an expert in screens, so any advice would be nice. 11. Im currently looking for a good monitor... Must have DVI input Must be 1080p Must be under £100 ($170) Any ideas?
  12. So basically, on my old laptop, I decided that I wanted to completely factory reset it - I had a windows restore disk, so I went ahead and used that to essentially do a fresh install (I used the license key from the sticker on the bottom of the laptop). Everything was fine, and after a while I was able to get into windows. When it first logged in, the theme was windows classic (as I expected because no drivers were installed). Next I went ahead and installed the necessary drivers, including: chipset, wifi/bluetooth adapters, webcam, soundcard, card reader, power management and video card (the laptop has both an intel integrated video card, as well as an nvidia geforce 520M, so I installed drivers for both) etc. I also did windows updates and installed some anti-virus software, on the laptop. After rebooting, and logging in sucessfully, I noticed that there were still a few problems. Firstly - the theme was still stuck on windows classic. When I tried to change it to the aero desktop on the personalisation settings, it said "The theme could not be applied to the desktop" - it said this for every theme that I tried to apply. So I go to the control panel and click on 'Find and fix problems' - there is a button called 'Display aero themes' so I click that. It goes through a troubleshooting menu, and finally changes the theme to aero; it says that the problem was that 'Desktop window manager was disabled'. However, every time I reboot my laptop, it reverts back to windows classic. Another problem is that I can't pin items to the taskbar (quick launch bar) or startmenu - I think this is something to do with the registry, but don't know what would have caused it. Any help would be much appreciated.
  13. I came across this awesome little PC by intel, in fact they make a range of them, from atoms to i5s. This is probably the best model they make, however I may be mistaken. http://www.scan.co.u...hics-5000-200mh It's called NUC, and the idea is that you buy this base unit, and and your own RAM, storage (e.g. SSD or hard drive) and WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity. For a this base unit plus 8GB of RAM and a decently sized storage solution, you're looking £350-400, maybe a little cheaper if you don't need much storage. This gave me an idea, it could be used for an extremely lightweight and portable LAN party PC. At 4x4x2 inches, it's pretty small. All I'd basically like to know if whether it would be capable at running most games at a half decent framerate. I'm not expecting 1000 FPS, but 30 would be nice, for most games. This model has a dual core i5-4250U clocked at 1.3GHz, however it boosts to 2.6GHz, with built in intel 5000 graphic - also, the chipset is Intel QS77 Express. I don't want to go any buy this, and then it can't play any games; however, if I did buy it, and it worked, I think Linux would be a good option. It would almost be like a Steam Machine....Steam OS may even be an option. Anyway....I just wanted to get some feedback. Me and my friends are always going on about having a LAN party, and this would be extremely awesome if it worked, as my gaming rig is too heavy to be carrying around. This little box, with a mouse and keyboard would work well. Any thoughts are welcome!
