Hadn't even considered plastidip - may be easier to get ahold of than conformal coating and may do a decent enough job.
Yeah conformal coating is what I was looking for. it'll be in a garage - so hot humid days with a bay or two open and cool dark evenings might make a problem. in the summer the surfaces in his old shop were commonly covered with a slick coating of condensation.
Lol looks like a solution for a much better class of hardware - I'm not too worried about messing it up - all this machine has to do is basically be a web terminal to look up information in the shop so I'm using *close to* garbage hardware. If I wreck it I'm out roughly twenty bucks - forty max.

I really like the idea of Vessel, however as a video streaming service, it's a pile of shit right now. Its "high" quality looks like 720p on Youtube, 4K is not supported, the loading speeds are arse, the design is as intuitive as Space Shuttle controls to a toddler.

But at least G+ isn't mandatory. Silver linings, you know...

ironically, Adreno graphics tech was acquired by Qualcomm from AMD a while ago.  Adreno is a anagram for Radeon.

I remember back in those days you had to periodically degauss your monitor after long periods of usage. lol

No... there can be instability. It's not guaranteed. But if it's timed the same, it should work at the clock of the slowest DIMM.

If you're going to upgrade your motherboard too, don't even bother. The difference between FX6300 and FX8350 is minimal in most games, and in rendering I don't think it's worth the investment either unless you can sell your current setup for a decent price.
But... to answer your question, 970UD3P and most 990FX boards are good.

I recently built one on the extreme budget end of the spectrum for a friend. I used a $40 (CAD) AM1 board, and the top of the line AM1 athalon quad core chip ($60 CAD on sale). It's primarily for music, so silence was key, with some video playback. it has 8GB of ram (which I told him was overkill for this machine), a 120GB SSD, and a cheap used mechanical drive for movies and music.  Stuff them in a used case with an old decent PSU and away you go. For the day to day stuff he primarily does its much more responsive than his i5 with a mechanical drive. The ODAC connected to it is more expensive than the entire AM1 build...

Of course anything intensive brings it to it's knees, but for $100, new, with a 25w tdp, this is a great little platform that nobody thinks of.

morriscey reacted to LukaP in Why the hell haven't AMD made a new architecture yet?
AMD bet on CMT based architecture, being very much ahead of their time, and they lost. then around the same timeframe, they decided to buy ATI and all their debts. Those two decisions were the basis for them losing most of their CPU marketshare, and having to now spend many years paying of the debts and selling low end parts to get enough RnD to develop a new architecture (Zen/K12) and compete with intel again.

Before all of that, amd and intel were neck to neck, amd beat them to 64bit and dual core computing, and Phenom II were slightly faster chips than the gen1 core i chips

1.) Pentium is not better than i3 .. not even talking about i5 or i7 lol
2.) If you OC it it has simmilar PER CORE performance than those other mentioned above but that does not mean it is better because it has only 2 CORES while i3 has 2cores + HT and i5 has 4 Cores and i7 4Cores + HT
So in application that uses 2cores it will be as good as i7 but in application that uses 3cores it will fall behind a LOT. Today almost anything can use more than 2 cores.

Yeah well Right now I don't really have the money to get a $240 cpu and at least another $100 into a mothertboard

FX 6300 as simple as that, still best budget CPU you can get.
