    @atxcyclist

My first reply was referring to the first thread rule and not some barbed comment, but it's clear there never was any intent to engage beyond strawmanning it up in the first place. I'll humour you, nevertheless.

Social security and public health services, the two mechanisms which everyone is desperately relying on now have long been continuously and systematically strip mined, whether directly or indirectly, by those appointed to protect the welfare and interests of the population, for the personal financial benefit of those who rely on those essential services the least, if at all.

Unlike the subprime market bullshittery which was wholly of the banks' own making, this pandemic is an outside factor. Could China have done more to at least contain the outbreak better? Sure, but they have their own long list of shooting own foot. Would better funded, equipped (or even functional) public health services - especially at a local level - and social security mechanisms dometically have prevented this disease spreading? Nothing likely would have once it crossed continents, but it would lessen the impact of it for most people just from the assurance that there isn't a need to choose between the financial burden of being made unemployed by this and the burden of immediate hospital bills, especially as those with this being a binary choice are usually those barely able to afford it in the first place.

I don't see any claims of "moral/intellectual superiority", you jumped to that conclusion all on your own. Practically everyone is having a shit time of it all. There's nothing which makes you or your situation any special.

    I saw the original post.

The fact you immediately dismiss it with "Anything can be made political though" is part of the fundamental problem.

Where you're from and who you vote for "doesn't matter," because the problems at the heart of it all are present everywhere, but where you're from and who you vote for also do matter, because while these problems exist everywhere, they're also much more egregiously rampant and ingrained in some places more than others.

I care less about them splashing all their vbucks money on exclusives, and more about them not spending a single bit of all their vbucks money on making their storefront & launcher not shit.

They can't even be bothered to "hire" an intern to plagerise stuff off Steam or Origin ffs.

Then using that logic, it's a government's prerogative to enact whatever laws they see fit and if that includes laws which mandate maufacturers to follow rules their products' behaviours and/or compositions, then it's their right to enforce those laws however they like.

It's just gatekeeping plus a bit of something else. Literally the antithesis of what the "PC platform" stands for, funnily enough.

It's not even LTT/LMG trying to find excuses to placate themselves here. Linus has already acknowledged this on a WAN previously that it's a flaw with some of their content.

Like I said, this just sums it up, stereotypes and all.

Ironically, I'm pretty sure even Linus has already admitted during a past WAN show stream, that he recognises there's a big section of his audience where this discrepency is a legitimate flaw in many LTT videos and doesn't try to make up excuses for it.

Even ignoring how nigh-impossible it would be on a practical level, I very doubt this Tory government would even allocate Ofcom the money it requires to actually do it.

There's even a huge difference between $100 headphones and $100 headphones. After deciding on budget, you should think about just what you intend to use them for and what type of device(s) you'll be using it with.

The higher the budget, the more detail you'll want to go to.

The memory controller is more likely to get bricked before TLC NAND even approaches its wear limit in most cases.

Looking for a general purpose 1440p monitor to use as both a monitor & as substitute for a TV, as I lack both floor & wall space to accomodate a second screen in any practical fashion.
Preference would be something in the range of 27-29", as my desk space is also a bit limited and I usually sit around 60-70cm away from the screen, but I am prepared to go as large as 32" if it's worth it. 120/144Hz isn't a requirement, as I'll be happy just with something above 75+Hz, especially as I also want VRR. However, that doesn't mean a 60Hz panel which has been factory overclocked to 75Hz. Not fussed about HDR, but would like it to be a Freesync 2 device for LFC, although not necessarily a dealbreaker. Currently running a 1070 Ti, but would like to avoid g-sync so I'm not locked into just Nvidia when it comes to upgrading graphics card later on. sRGB is perfectly fine, so wide-gamut colour space support not necessary. Prefer flat screen over curved, but again this isn't necessarily a dealbreaker.
My time at the screen is probably split as:
40-50% in desktop environment - such as reading/writing text (eg. 'work'), web browsing, etc.
30-20% as a TV-substitute - so watching both 'high-detail' content like movies & series streaming, as well as regular content like live sport & news
20-30% playing games - mostly singleplayer or faster-paced games like FPS titles somewhat casually

If I had to compromise between pixel transition speed & contrast ratio, it would probably be slightly in-favour for contrast ratio. I'd rather have a better experience when watching something like The Expanse, which has a lot of dark/black-background details and what I'm basically using as a 'benchmark' for the sort of expectations I have when using it as a TV. Though that said, this is only when it comes to a marginal choice; I'm still looking for a monitor that's at least decent in both these areas first and foremost.

Budget is around £350, although I can stretch it up to £400 if absolutely necessary and compelling enough to warrant that.
Being in the UK means Viotek is not an option and the only relevant Pixio offering is the PX7 Prime, but that's already £400 as it is and I'm not sure about how it handles the TV-substitute part of my requirements (if anyone has first-hand experience, particularly with content like The Expanse, please share). I'm aware that there's an 'equivalent' to the Pixio PX275h rebranded under electriQ, but afaik this version has notably worse firmware & dead pixel policy.

    Anyway, thanks.

Der8auer did a much more in-depth video about the matter of whether to heatsink or not to heatsink your nvme drive.

tl;dr - The memory controller on these can get really hot when writing in particular. Use a heatsink on the controller, the NAND chips are fine either way.
