  1. I have pc that I build 2 years ago (for office, music production and future gaming/ if those times will come) with corsair water cooled AMD 1800X on Asus Prime 370 Pro. For me is more than enough because I use only one slot for old gpu, nvme for system (data is on home server) cpu is set on 4000MHz and can not pass 3200 on ddr4 (4x8GB). Just bought occasionally small Corsair Crystal case but I need to change mobo to micro ATX. Do you think it willl be a good option to exchange Asus x370 to Asrock B450m? In future I would like to buy used Ryzen 5900 (or something similar ( asus does not support it) and some better gpu. Is there something I will regret or I should look for some other solution?
  2. I bought ocouple months ago on AliExpress two sets of Aigo fans with controller ( just to look nice inside my kids computers). Generally everything is ok with them (they are even quieter than the noisy corsair) except one small problem. When I choose low fan speed or turn off rgb backlight it start to make strange noise- sounds like the fan blade was hitting something. I checked all fans, controller and thing is.... it is not fans but power supply ( i already tried with 3 different psus + both controllers and the problem occurs in all of them). Does someone have an idea how to fix it?
  3. I am improving my 5 year old intel diy NAS and want to buy some new budget components. I was thinking about Ryzen platform with A320 chipset mobo + f.ex. Athlon 200GE or A12-9800. Whitch one will be better for NAS (probably freenas OS + pci sata/sas controller). Can it handle transcode hd or 4k movies to two players at the same time? Athlon 200GE is newer and more energy efficient, but A12 have more cores and higher frequency (maybe can be undervolted?). Which one would be better?
  4. Ps. I checked on website how my one CPU with GPU will work together/ example of bottleneck of xeon with rtx: https://pc-builds.com/calculator/Xeon_E5-2640_v3/GeForce_RTX_2080_with_Max-Q_Design/0C913blu/32/
  5. I bought it (cost only around 90 usd). One cpu will be in use for win 10, second one as "spare" for virtual machines. I found some russian video on Youtube how is he doing in games and it is actually not so bad. I will not be able to overclock it but I heard there is some "bios hack" to set cpu turbo boost always on. Maybe after some years when prices go down I will just exchange it on e5 2697 v3 or similar
  6. I got double socket supermicro mainboard with xeon E5 2640 v3 ( FCLGA 2011, 2,6- 3,4ghz turbo, 8core/16 thread) that will be my workstation. I have option of buying a second cpu for a low price. Is it going to be a good option of buying it or it will not going to stand 1440p or 4k gaming in the future (when there are going to be better gpus than rtx, etc)?
  7. As a graphic card I was thinking about something like RX5700xt or similar for 1440p gaming (I would like to buy it when prices go down). Maybe I will wait also to upgrade cpu after a year or something (I would like to have my server for couple years not replace it so often like phones ). First I need to choose operating system for it that I be able to comprehend.
  8. I dont know yet. I had couple solutions. For last 3 years I moved from synology NASes into one home made NAS (intel board+ core i5 +8hdds) with installed Xpenology 5.2. I mostly used it to store hd movies/ music/iso files, etc to stream into home media players and also as main torrent client. Maybe I will go and try esxi but I am open to try some other solutions. It will be good to have some nas system on it to take over job as media server and downloader. Maybe it will be xpenology which I know very well ( I really like DS downloader and DS file), or some other like Freenas which could also even be main os ( I think is better because of ZFS file system and I could build virtual machines on it) or maybe Win10 or something else (unix, proxmox, etc). What do You think will be best solution for me? I am not an expert but I know the basics ( I hope )
  9. Hi. Like many people I have a lot of computers in my home. Some time ago I decided to clean it up a little bit and I left only htpc in living room for gaming and couple laptops for everyday use. To store data I was always using 3 synology NASes, but I am planing to build more powerfull home server/workstation for whole family. I bought old server rack enclousure, old dell server to use is as a case and supermicro x10drhc (dual cpu) + xeon e5 2640v3 (2,3-3,4 ghz turbo). In spare time I will put it all together and move it into server room. I would like to create virtual machines and use it also for gaming when I will be working on laptop in home office. My question is: do I need to exchange xeon for a faster cpu, or the one I have will be enough and I can additionally buy second one .
