  1. So I'm currently assembling a new computer to flip and I found a good deal on a Dell OEM AMD RX 470 4GB card for about $78 shipped. The shipper then later told me it's actually an RX 570 4GB, which seems like a good thing. But when I installed the card into my personal system, download the AMD Drivers, and check with GPU-Z, it identifies it as an RX 570 but the numbers point to this being an RX 470. Does anyone know anything about this, and any other caveats that come with this graphics card, such as maybe a temperature or power limit? My main issues is if I market the PC with having a 470 or 570, as I'd rather not have false information in my listings, even though I guess this could technically count as an cut down 570.
  2. So I built my first PC in late 2018 and have had it since then. Everything ran completely fine. I used to run overclocked on CPU and RAM until I realized the benefits were pretty minimal and dialed everything back to stock speeds, as of recently. However, for the past few days, I've had various issues with booting. Here's how the process usually is. 1) Turn on PC 2) PC freezes on splash screen 3) Shutdown PC 4) Turn on PC again 5) Message pops up about how PC posted in safe mode 6) Press F1 to enter BIOS 7) Press F10 to exit BIOS and enter Windows 10 I attempted completely clearing the CMOS but that didn't fix the issue. In addition, my clock was completely wrong in Windows 10, which I suspect may be an issue with the firmware (BIOS). Anyone know how to solve the issue? Maybe it's the motherboard?
  3. So, to keep it short, I've getting a bit more into learning about stress and stability testing, and trying with OCCT. For CPU, I was wondering what is the difference between the data set sizes?
  4. So my cousin wants to join PC gaming and asked me to help him buy parts and build a PC. For the build, I thought the GTX 1660 SUPER was the perfect fit for the budget and the system, as he doesn't play very intensive games and wants the system to lats for four years. So I was looking around for cards and came across this model (https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/ocpc-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-super/apd/ab169307/graphic-video-cards?gacd=9646510-1025-5761040-0-0&dgc=st&gclid=CjwKCAjw57b3BRBlEiwA1Imytv7Dlf8zdtR-5j2P-s4MYDw8iUWtR8v7wzjDO3RI_r1BYUAbEb5NQhoCfgIQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds), which, at first glance, actually looks really solid for the $229 MSRP price point of the 1660 SUPER. It has a dual-slot, dual-fan design with a backplate, a seemingly solid heatsink, and has a very neutral, minimalistic color scheme, which fits with the rest of the parts. However, I do not know much about the OCPC brand or what parts they have. On the listing, everything seems pretty standard for the GPU (except for the fact it states it can do "ray tracking" in the Overview section) and doesn't seem sketchy. Apparently, this card has something to do with VisionTek, which I have not had a ton of experience with either. I assume they are maybe OEM brands but this card looks pretty good for the price but since it is not name brand, I'm not sure how trustworthy it is.
  5. So one of my used PC reselling projects consisted of recasing a Dell Inspiron 660 into a Bitfenix Prodigy M Case. The process wasn't too hard as the Inspiron 660 motherboard has a surprisingly standard design. The mounting process was fine and even the front panel headers could be installed easily. However, whenever I turn on the PC, I get an error message saying "System Fan Failure" and it directs me to press F1 to continue (And it goes to Windows right after). I checked and all of my fans were spinning just fine, even the CPU cooler seemed to be lacking of any alarming dust. I suspect maybe because the chassis fans are not Dell fans, they are not compatible? The fan attached to the fan header is actually a 4-way PWM fan hub that I use for the two included Bitfenix fans. They spin normally but cause an error message and sometimes shut down the PC when running Unigine Heaven. Any way to at least disable this error message?
  6. So I'm not old enough to get a job so I'm doing Used PC Flipping (buy and sell for profit) right now to make a bit of cash and work more with computers. One of my current projects consists of my dad's old HP Pavilion that he gave to me for free (Pavilion p7-1287c), a 1TB HDD I bought for $19, a GTX 660 I bought for $25, and a Logisys PSU for $24. Hardware wise, there should really be no part conflicts or issues, but when booting, I could not POST and was stuck at the splash screen. Others claimed a Legacy card is needed and that is why I got the GTX 660 in the first place, but it would not be accepted. Obviously, this is a proprietary firmware thing that HP implemented to prevent user upgrades, so my plan is to buy a cheap Optiplex 790 motherboard for $15 and an Optiplex Cooler (since Dell has proprietary cooler stuff) for $10 to replace the current ones. Since I am reselling, a case switch might be good but I really don't want to spend more than necessary. Should there be any conflicts in doing this? As long as the standard connectors are there, firmware should not have an effect or am I mistaken?
  7. So did those older HP boards use Legacy BIOS instead of UEFI? Wouldn't that mean a 600-Series NVIDIA GPU could work as they are compatible with a Legacy BIOS?
  8. Could you explain "pre-uefi"? I'm familiar with most PC terms but haven't had much experience in tinkering with BIOS and UEFI. I'm assuming you mean older boards didn't have a UEFI and that's why a newer more modern GPU isn't comaptible?
  9. So I am doing a new build project where I am taking an OLD OEM machine and trying to turn into a light gaming machine using strictly used components. My OEM PC is an old 2011 HP Pavilion (p7-1200 series) with a i5 2400, 8GB RAM, and 1TB HDD. I've already bought a pretty good PSU for cheap but am looking for a GPU. My only concern is the compatibility, especially considering this is a HP machine. I've heard in especially older HP machines that the firmware prevents from a 3rd-party card working with the system, but others have said to try to get a card that's the same age of the MOBO and it will work. So I'm thinking about getting a 600-series NVIDIA GPU but do I actually have to go for matching age components. Is there some kind of BIOS or firmware issue that prevents more modern cards from working with older boards?
  10. Pretty self-explanatory. I've seen various definitions as to what exactly a charge cycle is but which one is it? Mostly asking because I got my first phone about one month ago and looking to preserve battery life for 30 months (at least have 70-75% left by the time of upgrading) as lithium-ion batteries I hear last 300-500 "cycles" before losing significant amount of juice. Every night, I charge it to 100%, unplug it, then go to sleep because I just really don't like the idea of charging overnight. I usually never go below 20-25% at the end of the day and I just repeat the cycle. So, to reiterate my prior inquiry, what exactly is a charge cycle? (I own a Pixel 4 XL, use dark theme and smooth display)
  11. Oh nice, thanks for that. I totally missed it. Probably going to get this one.
  12. So my dad needs me to build a computer to replace his 8-year old old HP Desktop and since he doesn't do anything that requires a lot of processing power or something that stresses CPU too much so I think it would not be a bad idea to get a cheap $50 board and save $25-30 to pair with a cheap dual or quad core Ryzen APU. Upgrade ability with RAM and stuff like that isn't a worry. But the main thing is if supports Ryzen 3rd Gen out-of-the-box? I know the bios update came out nearly nine months ago but just wanted to make sure the model selling on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079NYQQJJ?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1) has that BIOS updated already. Anyone buy this board recently and got it working with 3rd Gen Ryzen?
  13. So I've been looking at this deal on an old PC i plan to upgrade with a low power GPU and give to a friend as a little present. The specific model is the HP Pavilion 500-500Z but on the listing there are no specs listed just a model number. https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-pavilion-500-500-desktop-pc-series/7477729/model/7485488/manuals I'm looking for specs (I already know it has 8GB RAM) but I can't seem to find any on the product page. Anyone know how to get around this?
