It indeed has some questionable choices. The shrouds being plastic on the underside facing the gen 4 nvme's is another. If they made it full metal they could have acted atleast as heatsinks.

That is a sick looking build, the glass here also works well with the white interior.
I normally prefer (and have...) this case black and with the mesh side panel.

I'd advice against buying a 4070. It is not that good of a gpu for the money.

Again, try to buy a last gen second hand. You can find 3070ti's for instance for around 400 euro's (just dont buy gigabyte ones since they apparently are more prone to cracking), which is only around 20% slower than the 4070. Given current gen is at best only marginally better up to the 4070, and beyond that quite a bit better but also way more expensive, I think buying previous gen second hand is the best way forward.

Not to shame anyone for buying the best mid tower on the market, but you did buy the wrong version.

Mesh panel FD North is like the rich Lord in the castle compared to the TG version being like the filthy peasant squabbling in the mud.

Have to unveil for a photo, but with the mesh side panel, you can do kinky stuff like this and allow each tower of your dual tower NH-D15 to have their own intake/exhaust through the side mesh. Since this photo I've swapped the fans for FD 4x140mm case fans and disabled the RGB.

Private turbof1 reporting for pc-building, sir!

Like probably many, I got sold on the Fractal Design North case. Those wooden slats on the front... . djeez Fractal, can it get it any more sexy?

So I bought one last weekend and spend roughly 3 hours on transferring the parts from my older Aerocool Cylon Pro. That case is unlike its name would suggest a sweatbox with barely any front airflow. This is the older build:

I mean, the little holes that should get some air inside are half covered by a plate... .

Behold the magic of 3 hours hard labour of moving all the parts over:

I got myself the tempered glass chalk one. To my dismay I figured out this version does not come with a fan hub. Why Fractal why.

But, Fractal does ship the case, and all versions of it, with 2x 140mm fans. Thank you Fractal thank you.

I had some issues with cable management. The space under the psu shroud provides ample room to stuff the excess cable length away, but the space between the mobo backplate and the side panel at the back is quite tight, especially around where the connectors of the psu cables and cable extension fit into one another. Luckily, I just had enough room to get the side panel on without any bulging.

To my dismay, my mobo neither has a usb 3 type c internal header, with the front I/O of the case having that. That is left unused now. Should be fixed once I deem an upgrade necessary.

Temperatures dropped around 7 degrees on idle, and over 10 degrees under load. The Aerocool case, although never resulting in anything hitting too high temps, just did not allow good airflow to have decent temps. This case however performs strong in that department.

Oh you want to know specs? But this topic is solely for my need to show off the pc case! Fine... Here it is:

    -Asus B550 strix gaming-A
    -amd ryzen 5 5600X
    -gigabyte 3070ti vision
    -16 GB Trident Z royal ddr4 3600mhz RAM.
    -WD Blue SN570 1tb
    -2x samsung evo sata ssd's
-Enermax T50 cooler + 3x exhaust case fans.
-Fractal Design Ion Gold 750 watt PSU

I am happy with the specs as they are. In a time where a 4060ti is often worse than a 3060ti, I am not bothered with getting anything new. We'll see if the next generation of cpu's and gpu's have enough of a performance jump to get something new in it.

I'd go then for the 13700kf with ddr5. It'll be a bit more future proofing. You do not need all the 13900kf cores for a gaming pc. DDR5 is not really that relevant nowadays, but might become so in the future.

If not consider RX 6800 XT if it's cheaper,

also if 13600k is cheaper than 12700k, 13600k is faster, it's i5 but it's still faster. (the Intel with 13 in the first 2 numbers is way faster than Intel with 12 in first 2 numbers)

I think your cpu is bottle necking your gpu.
    You have 2 realistic options:

-Either A 13600k with a Z690. This is a solution that does not break the bank, but does not bring much in terms of upgradeability in the future.
-Or a 7600x wth a B650 board and DDR5 memory. A lot more expensive, but the AM5 platform runs up to 2025, meaning your future upgrade costs will be limited to a cpu drop in.

A mate from me is also from Serbia. He told me it is very difficult to get eletronics there for a decent price, so I feel for you. I also had the same issue in belgium until I found a good deal.

Still, it is better to spend an unreasonably amount on a psu than to fry your other expensive components.

Turbof1 got a reaction from _Alexa_ in Does PSU that keeps failing damages my components?
A failing psu can end up sending way too much current to your other components, frying them and effectively destroying them.
Given it is failing now, the likelyhood of it frying other components each time you try to use it now, will increase.
Worse, it can set the whole thing ablaze. It is very rare, but housefires have happened due a psu not working properly.
Most PSU's have securities built in to avoid things like that to happen. However, those can fail. At the end of the day, you are working with electricity. You have to be cautious.

3 years lifetime for a psu is very weak. A decent quality psu gets 7 years factory warranty for instance, meaning the brand is very confident it will last that long and very likely even longer.

There are cheap psu's out there that can work perfectly fine for 10 years, however you can never know that in advance with such psu's and you will be taking a gamble. Paying 40 euro's more to remove that gamble and to protect 1000 euro's worth of components, and in very extreme cases even your house, is highly advisable. Yes, you are paying quite a premium and big quality brands will overprice their psu's. Still advisable to do so.

Taken the message from @Dogzilla07 in mind, so if the price is correct, then probably good enough. Reputable brand, no immediate widespread issues found on google at first sight, and 5 year warranty. I do not have enough of a technical background to know if the components it has are good, but it does not appear to be a fire hazard.

Nope. Cheap, low quality be quite! unit wit outdated design on the primary side of the PSU. You have to find a Tier A unit in your region.

Ehh, I made a typo for the usb wifi adapter. It is EUR 20.33. My apologies on that.

I am not considering used parts. If it was a build for myself, then yes I would be doing that. However, if I am building something for others i only work with new parts due to the warranty and being able to send right back to the seller if a part does not work. In that regard, a new B450 is more expensive than a new A520M. Also, the extra overclock features are not being used (the 5600G is powerful as it is, and overclocking will only increase power consumption). The only 'overclock' happening is the DOCP/XPM profile which the A520M supports. Actually, the A5220M features quite a few OC options (see picture).

The PSU is 15 euro's more expensive than the cheapest one (a random generic none 80 plus 300W PSU) I could find for my region. By paying 15 euro's more, I got 80 plus bronze, semi-modular cabling and a trustable brand. Given how critical the PSU is (the saying goes "do not cheap out on your PSU"), that extra 15 euro's is worth it.

Definitely wait. Cyberpunk isn't coming out for a while and GPU prices are on the high end right now, even on the used market. Once new cards get released the market will be flooded with the 2060's, so you can take advantage of price drops then.

use @-rascal- settings first as a baseline. If that runs stable, increase OC of frequency/mem clock in small 10Mhz steps, until either things start to crash under a Heaven Benchmark or when you see artifacts/weird stuff on the screen.

Should the baseline not be stable, decrease by steps of 10Mhz.

Turbof1 got a reaction from Connor2803 in Is a 1050Ti Strix Graphics Card for $133 a good deal?
Graphics cards are in a weird spot today, with prices being overall too high. If you can hold off buying one, I'd do it. A 1050Ti for 133 dollar sounds overpriced, I got mine for 80 euro's late 2018. So i really wouldn't pay that kind of money for a used one. You might find new GTX 1650's for that price or a little bit more expensive.
  23. Agree
Turbof1 got a reaction from jaslion in Is now a good time to buy a gtx 1080 ti or wait?
At this point I wouldn't. Newer graphics cards will come with better suited drivers for new games. So even though a 1080 Ti will on paper out perform a lower tier new graphics card, performance ingame might be such that you are not getting your worth out of it.

Also, going from a 1030 to a 1080 Ti is a very hefty upgrade. You have to consider if your CPU is up to that, as well as your PSU. Newer, lower tier cards are likely to draw less power than the 1080 Ti.

Checking a second hand site for Belgium, I noticed 1080 Ti's are still going for 400 euro's. For that money it is likely Ampere will give you a better card.

    Hello,

Not my usual post around here, but I wanted to bring attention to this as a good buddy of mine is Australian. He has been deeply troubled by what is happening in his home country. I am not going to pretend that I fully grasp the situation, so it's best I quote him directly. If you want, please make a donation. The service(s) you are donating to are verified and we know for sure the money will be directly used to fighting the fires, or helping those who are affected by it. Thank you.

    The Amazon Fires

    The CURRENT Australian Bushfires
12,000,000 acres... and rising every day

I do not think that people understand what is happening right now.

These are not normal Australian bushfires. The entire country is on fire. Most people have no conceptual understanding about just how big Australia is... and therefore, just how bad these fires are. They also just cannot fathom how terrifying and unstoppable a real bushfire is... Have you ever heard of, let alone seen, a fire tornado rip through nature?

Being an Aerodynamicist, and therefore having a knowledge of how air (oxygen for the fire) moves and how heat causes it to, means that I have some understanding of how these fires flare up fast enough, that you cannot our-drive them, let alone out-run them, simply when the wind blows... which they generate for themselves by the extreme temperatures they scorch the ground and air with (see the video I linked below to see what I mean).

The fact that only 15 people are dead is astonishingly low, but the half a billion (yes, with a "b") animals are dead, should give you some perspective. We have the worst air quality in the world now. Our Prime Minister has left the country, its wildlife, and nature to burn. He ignored the warnings of potential catastrophic fires, and his response to societies call to action, was to cut funding to the fire services by 70%, crippling the fire services across the nation. Fire-fighters have flown in from around the globe, to help us in this time of crisis.

So, not only are our incredibly brave fire-fighters under resourced, but they are also fighting fires that the world has never seen before, dwarfing even the great Californian and Amazonian fires of the past.

I live in Europe now, and so my ability to help my fellow Australians is limitted, however, I do have a reasonable amount of reach within this site, and in my friendship circles.

I have linked the NSW Rural Fire Service website, who are trying to fight this on the front lines of the hardest hit areas, and need all the support they can get.
    https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/about-us/fundraising

Secondly, to the Australian Red Cross. They are supporting people at evacuation centres by providing psychological support, first aid, emergency assistance (cash grants to people who have lost homes), supporting volunteers, and more.
    https://www.redcross.org.au/

And finally, to the World Wilflife Fund. They are housing and supporting injured animals from the bushfires aswell as rescuing others that are still in harms way. They will also be making an effort to rebuild the habitats and re-populate the species killed in these fires.
    https://www.wwf.org.au/get-involved/bushfire-emergency

Any support that you may be willing to offer, is not only very much appreciated, but desperately needed.

    My sunburnt country...
    my... home...
is burning to the ground, in an inferno...
and we are absolutely powerless to stop it...
