  1. System:

    2070 super Zotac AMP! Extreme

My case: Fractal Design Meshify C

Airflow: 2x 140 mm intake Noctua fans, 2x exhaust 120mm fans

CPU Cooler: Dark Rock Pro 4

    CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X

    Mobo: Asus x570 Tuf

    Temps:

Temps while gaming were around 70-72 C.

idle temps on GPU: 31 C

    load temps before undervolting: 71 C (1068 V at 2055 Mhz)

load temps after undervolting: 63 C (1000V at 2055 MHz)

So I'm a bit uncertain if I did everything correctly. Basically what I did was:

    1. Check my max MHz and V under load on GPUZ and/or HWMonitor

    2. Open MSI Afterburner and under settings check every box under compatibility properties to enable voltage monitoring

    3. Press ctrl + F and select a desired voltage and drag it to the max MHz level seen in previous load testing (mine was 2055 MHz)

    4. Press L to lock it

    5. Run tests to see if it is stable

    6. Unlock the point after confirming that it's stable and save the profile on MSI Afterburner

    My questions:

    1. Did I do everything correctly? Will the MSI profile load itself every time I start windows?

    2. Are my results alright?

    3. Should the curve be flat after the point that I locked then unlocked?

    4. If I want to improve the performance, is it OK to overclock my GPU after I "undervolted" it? (I'm aware I'll get worse results than straight OCing it) How should I proceed doing that?

I do my fan control in the BIOS.  I have an ASUS x470 prime, I'd imagine the fan control would be the same as your X570 tuf.  I ended up setting all fans to the silent profile, the CPU boosts to almost the same regardless of 68 or 72 degrees and the near silent running is worth way more to me than 25mhz.  When getting the fans dialed in, fan orientation made the biggest difference in temperatures.  I run negative pressure and flow from back to front and that made most of the difference, flow balance between a couple of the fans also impacted things more than I would have thought.  That said with a different case and a different cooler about all I can really comment on is that I think your CPU temps should be better with the dark rock pro.

I should have mentioned in the post above, GPU is a gigabyte 2070 super, it sees between 66-70 throughout the blender & heaven benchmarks

I think I messed up with the thermal paste. Today I bought Grizzly kryonaut thermal paste and I will reapply the paste on the weekend and play with the fans a bit. I read here that somebody tried out different fan setups for this case and ended up having exactly what I have. Gamers nexus came to a similar conclusion. It was positive pressure, 2x iintake at the front, 1x exhaust at the back and 1x exhaust at the top.

Is Furmark that much more intense than a blender & heaven loop?

I have a different case but a 3700X with the stock cooler I can get it as low as 64 degrees on a blender & heaven loop, thats with crazy noise tho, 68 degrees with moderate noise, and 72 degrees running quiet.  I agree with the OP i would expect better from a dark rock pro 4.

OP, I would crank all the fans to 100% in the BIOS, setup your benchmark, let it get up to temp, and start playing, partially restrict fans one at a time, switch orientations, etc to see what the best case scenario is, from there turn down the fan speed to something tolerable noise wise and see where the temps land.

When I use furmark I get 64C on my CPU. During gaming it goes over 70. I realized it had to do with my GPU because during CPU stress test the GPU is idle. If both are running, they both generate heat. I just need to get the heat out of the case.

SpeedFan doesn't recognize my mobo. Can you by any chance recommend any good software to adjust the fan curves or am I forced to do it in BIOS?

I find that a bit hard to believe. Are they also using Furmark? Any examples you can link?

I don't know if they are using Furmark. There's always a chance they're not telling the truth but here you go:

Kryonaut. I would just use a dot. Tried spreading it, but didn't get good temps compared to just pea method. Just make sure it spread nicely all over the die.

If you want more airflow in the case you could remove front dust-filter, but then again.. More dust.

Yeah I'll spread a thin layer of it.

I'd prefer keeping the dust filter. 2x 140mm 1500RPM fans should draw in enough air but I think they are just running on low RPM because ithey're set on automatic. The fans are so quiet I wouldn't mind bumping the speed a little bit up to further reduce the temps. I'm just not 100% sure how to balance the RPMs between 2x 140mm intake fans and 2x exhaust fans.

I think those idle and load temps are normal. My ambient temperature is 26C and my CPU at idle is 41C using a scythe fuma 2 cooler. I have four 140mm intake fans and one 120mm exhaust fan on a cooler master NR400 case.

This is what I set for case intake fans:

30 degrees C, winter & night idle temp, fan speed 0%.

40C, summer day time idle temp, case fan speed 1%

50C, gaming temp, fan speed to 50%.

I set fan speed to 100% at 69C.

CPU fan and exhaust fan are linked on a splitter cable and I left it to default PWM settings.

I can give it a try and tinker the curves a bit. Btw do you have any idea why can't I see my fans in SpeedFan but only in BIOS?

  7. 34 minutes ago, Plouffe said:

That looks more than fine to me :)

They are not critical but some people are achieving same temps with stock cooler and only 2 case fans and that's signaling me that something is not optimized. I think my fans curves are not ideal. I never adjusted them before that's why I'm a bit unsure what to do.

  8. My system:
Motherboard: Asus TUF x570 plus with Wi Fi
    CPU: Ryzen 3700X

CPU Cooler: Dark Rock Pro 4
GPU: 2070 Super Zotac AMD! Extreme

Fans: 2x intake Noctua 140mm redux 1500 RPM PWM fans, 1x exhaust at the back 120mm Fractal Design, 1x exhaust at the top 120mm Fractal Design (the ones that come with the case)

I did NOT overclock my GPU or CPU

    My temps:

    Ambient temp: 21-22 C

    CPU idle: ca. 45 C

CPU under load: 67-70 C (Furmark CPU Burner)

GPU under load: 80 C (Furmark)

While gaming the temps are a few degrees lower than under full load

I believe my temps are a bit too high considering what case / fans and CPU cooler I have. I believe I messed up when applying the thermal paste and I didn't adjust any fan speeds. I would like somebody advise me how to optimize my airflow to reduce the temps.

    1. I bought Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut today and I will apply it on the weekend. Should I use the spread method advised by team grizzly or some other?

    2. One of the exhaust fans is connected to AIO port on the motherboard, is this a problem or should I connect both exhaust fans to one connector and connect both fans to one PWM port on the mobo?

    3. Probably the most important question: How should I adjust the fan speeds in BIOS? Is there an ideal fan curve I should be aiming for? SpeedFan doesn't show case fans, only GPU and CPU so I guess I have to use BIOS

    4. Should I change any settings for the CPU or GPU?

    Thanks!

Im also looking for a 2070 Super, and im also returning my 5700XT for the exact same reason. Constant black screens and i have tried everything, i even bought a new PSU, swapped ram, swapped PCIE slots, re-fitted all cables nothing works. The AMD forum is filled with complaints about the black screen of death so i dont feel that confident getting another one the only thing that worked for me was switching the 5700XT with my older card rx480 and no more black screens! Now im looking for a nVidia card because im tired of AMDs horrible drivers.

Don't know if you already ordered one but I got mine today and after a few hours I'm super satisfied. No crashes, lower temps and more FPS. If you can add another 70-100€ I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

It just sounds like a bad GPU that could use an RMA/exchange, only other thing would be flashing a fresh bios onto it if you have some way to recover from that.

the issue when you start to go for higher end 2070 supers is that you get into entry level 2080s, same for most GPUs really.

How much are used 1080tis compared to 2070 supers?

Yeah, to be honest I've spent too much of my free time trying to find a solution for the problem and that frustrates me. I shoulda just spend the card back a week ago.

Used 1080ti's are affordable but I would prefer to get a new card. I've spent 430€ for the 5700xt and the 2070s cards are around 500€. I don't mind paying 70€ more for a new stable card that will perform well on 1440p / 144 Hz. I'm just not sure how big are the differences between 2070s cards and which ones have a good built quality.

I can choose between these cards: https://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/ProductCategory/16073F1263426.html

I’m giving you a recommendation here.  Ventus isn’t that good

is the 2070S armour available to you?

Ah thanks. I thought you mentioned one of the ones from my list. I'm a bit confused picking a 2070 super because the prices for aftermarket models go from 480€ to over 600€. I don't mind spending around 500-520€. Unfortunately the card you mentioned is quite expensive.

2070S Armour is not available where I live. This is pretty much what I have at disposal: https://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/ProductCategory/16073F1263426.html

edit: spelling, forgot to answer the question.

Did you already reinstall windows with the RX 5700? Pretty much every bug has been worked out in 19.10.1/2

and are you sure it's not the PSU? Or just a bad card with some crap memory that can't hit stock speeds?

What happens if you drop the power target to 50%?

I tried everything I could think of. I asked for advice here, on reddit and AMD forums.

I tried clean reinstalling my windows two times. I did GPU stress tests, CPU tests, memory tests, spend countless hours analyzing event viewer and nothing worked. I used multiple AMD drivers and I always experience crashes:

All of the components in my PC are brand new and the PSU is Corsair RMx 650W. I didn't swap it out to test how the system works with another PSU but it held good during hour long stress tests.

You pretty much just want the biggest cooler for the lowest price, assuming it has decent memory/VRM cooling as well.

But, I'd just save a bunch and get an RX 5700/XT only ~360 EUR with 80-90% the same performance, or the nitro+ is just really nice.

I'm actually returning my 5700xt tomorrow. I have nothing against AMD, I've been basically using their CPUs and GPUs since 2013 but ever since I got my 5700xt 2 weeks ago I'm having driver issues. Constant black screens, crashes etc and I'm just can't take it anymore.

I heard some people complaining about gigabyte having bad build quality...

  14. I can't seem to find a good overview or a recommendation. I'm looking for a reliable card with decent thermals and noise, basically good build quality. I don't mind dishing out a bit more to get a good card.

Where I live the following cards are the cheapest:

    1. GigaByte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Windforce

    2. MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Ventus

    3. Zotac GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Twin Fan

    4. Inno3D RTX 2070 SUPER twin X2

There are other variants that cost 20-30€ more and I can get one of those if it is worth it (Other cards from Zotac, Palit, Gainward etc)

    Which one would you recommend?

  15. Problem:
Random black screen while playing Dota. AMD Drivers crash.

    My system: (Brand new):
    Monitor: Acer Nitro XV272UP
Motherboard: Asus TUF x570 plus with Wi Fi updated to newest bios 1.2
    CPU: Ryzen 3700X
GPU: Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT (19.9.2 - Recommended version)
    PSU: Corsair RMx 650 W
    Windows 10 (up to date)

    Event Viewer:
    image.png.ffd75e4e1f96f4ed8017c0bc7c18c348.png

What can I do to improve my stability? Should I download the nest "non recommended" AMD drivers? Are other people still having problems with 5700 XT?

set the entire machine to sleep after 1 minute , essentially the machine needs to not send a signal for the monitor to sleep

Ah you're right. I just tested it and the monitor went really completely off. I usually have my monitor set to go to sleep in 10 min and PC in 30 or 1 hour and that's why it didn't work.

The only question that remains, why did it work on my last monitor? I could set it to go to sleep without having to put my entire PC to sleep...

I had a similar issue with my PC, screen will randomly go blank and motherboard becomes unresponsive to point I had to turn power off at the PSU/wall outlet in order to restart the system. I found the issue was to do with ASUS AI Suite. Once I uninstalled it my system was 100% stable.

I don't have it installed. The problem is I'm getting errors with all sorts of stuff and I just installed windows on a brand new PC. I'm getting errors with Asus aura sync (I uninstalled it), with AMD drivers (I got the newest recommended one); with headset (also got the newest), with registry (no idea what to do) etc.

It's really frustrating especially when the PC crashes.
