    This very much so. It seems it doesn't hurt performance but does require 2 separate 8 pin connectors.

    That actually depends, but most motherboards support charging external devices via USB-C, though this is more meant for phones so you would be lucky if your MBP would even detected a charge, or even if it did if it actually charged at all.
     
    No damage would be done though.
