  1. Hi everyone, I've been having this problem with my PC where after being woken from sleep it will crash to a black screen, needing to be reset before booting again. It will sometimes happen a few minutes after waking from sleep, and can sometimes be used for up to an hour or so before it happens. If I use the computer without putting it to sleep from shutdown it won't happen. It started out by not waking from sleep at all but I found a fix online involving disabling all of the audio devices that I wasn't using, which solved that side of it. Event viewer just says Event 41, Kernel-Power which hasn't been helpful. System specs: Ryzen 5 2600 MSI B450 Tomahawk Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB 3000mhz DDR4 Samsung 970 Evo m.2 Corsair RM650 RX480 Seagate storage drive Windows 10 Pro 64bit So far I've tried replacing the only part I have a replacement for which is a known good PSU but it happened with that too. Any help is much appreciated as I use sleep quite a lot.
  2. Got pulled off this for a more important job with some Gen8 servers (which were a total breeze!) Hopefully can have another crack at it on Monday. I don't think it gives me the option for F10 at boot.
  3. I'll update tomorrow with the outcome! Thanks very much all
  4. I did wonder if that could be the case so tried them all, even the one on the motherboard itself didn't work! Just using CMD on a windows 10 PC. Looks like there's a HP tool you can use so might be worth trying that out tomorrow
  5. I haven't actually been able to get that far yet! Basically I can't seem to boot from USB at all.
  6. Hello all, This is probably me being stupid but I'm struggling to install Windows server 2012 R2 onto a new ML10 Gen9. I've set up the RAID array no problem using the HP manuals, but for OS install they just say to create a bootable USB, inset it and reboot. This just takes me to the shell environment. I've tried using the boot menu but that just has IPV4, IPV6 and the built in UEFI. I can see the USB drive in the BIOS and it definitely is working as it should be, just can't seem to get to it! Any help greatly appreciated.
  7. Thanks everyone, now to decide which monitor and card to go for!
  8. Hi guys, Really want to step up from my 1080p 27inch monitor to a 1440p one, but I'm not sure if my rig will need more than just a better graphics card to do this. I'm using a 2500K on an MSI Z77A-G45 with 16GB of RAM. Currently have a GTX 770 but that will be upgraded to something like a 1060 or 1070. Do you think the CPU will bottleneck the card too badly? Am I better off just upgrading the whole thing? Cheers
  9. Only slightly over budget at £225, not as bad as I was expecting. Gotta be worth it
  10. I'm actually in the UK (knew most on here are over the pond so gave budget in dollars). Unfortunately i5s are a little more over here and getting one would impact the performance and quality of the mobo and RAM. I'd rather run an i3 with a high quality board and ram than an i5 with some shanky mobo to get in budget. Thinking the 4160 is my best bet as it seems to run almost every game pretty well.
  11. Hi guys, I'm looking for a CPU, mobo and some ram for a budget gaming PC. Have around $300 for those 3 components. (Upgrading the PC you can see here: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/363220-free-gaming-pc-for-a-friend/) I was about to buy a G3258 but I've just read that windows 10 stops any overclocks from working. Is this true? Should I even bother with the G3258, as an i3 4160 is also within budget? Thanks in advance
  12. Hey guys, Just ordered myself a 240GB Sandisk Extreme Pro to replace my old Corsair Force 3 60GB SSD. Is there any downside to cloning the corsair to the new Sandisk to save doing a clean install? I'd rather do it this way for a couple of reasons. My system is kept very clean anyway, and my version of windows 8.1 is an upgrade version from Windows 7. So I have no idea if it's even possible for me to do a clean install of this?
  13. I'm thinking just give it him as is, then when he has some cash swap out the mobo cpu and ram for something half decent from the amd camp. Perhaps an FX4300. Should get the lot for around £160 roughly
  14. Runs at 21C while browsing the web! It was that cooler or no cooler though, think I picked the better option
  15. Hi everyone! I've put together this little rig for a friend who is currently at uni. He'll be finishing soon with little to no money, but really wants to get into PC gaming with me. I had a few bits left over from previous builds, either because I didn't like them or just never got around to using them, so made a bit of a Frankenstein. And here it is... Intel E6600 MSI R7850 Gigabyte GA-945GCM-S2L 4GB of Kingston 1066 DDR2 WD Green 1TB hard drive Corsair CX600 Antec Kulher 620 Fractal design core 1000 Windows 8.1 It does run some games on low settings ok, but I really need to boost this up to decent performance in most games if I can. I think I just need a Q6600 and an SSD to get it going, but my mobo might hold be back. The max ram speed is 667mhz, so it bottle necks my ram, and it's only sata II. Would it be worth spending the extra money on a better mobo? If so, any suggestions please? I can seem to find much that 775 and has support for the 1066 ram and sata III in the UK Cheers! Tim
