Cat Graphic reacted to Telgou in Help me choose a 24" 1080p 144/165HZ monitor from among 8 monitors
    Thanks for the advice.
There is an LG 27GN600 (144Hz 27" 1080p IPS) i have found, and seems like it's a nice monitor.
As for 1440p, there is barely a selection of monitors to choose from in the stores in my country. There is no 24" 1440p at all while the 27" 1440p start at 360$...

a lot, i ran a 1080p webcam, keyboard, mouse, graphics tablet, and bluetooth receiver for my controller, all through one USB 2.0 connection with a powered hub

just use a powered usb hub on the end of the cable and it should be able to do plenty of xbox controllers

if you can do it all with just regular cables that are just long that'll be the easiest way if you don't care about running the cables. there are other systems where they try doing it with just a single wire and it's overly complicated compared to just running the cables as you've suggested.

The card will work, however pulling over 8 amps through 18 awg cable is not advisable. The cable/connectors will heat up during longer game sessions.

Yeah, this image was posted by Seasonic, because their older units shipped with inadequate cables which couldn't handle daisy chained 8 pins.

Wire gauge is usually marked on the cable. Or you can google your unit and look for reviews, they usually have an overview of the cables.

Don't mix cables from different power supplies. Use the cables that your power supply came with.
What power supply do you have?

The PCIe 8 pin connector has 3x 12v wires. The extra is a sense wire such is why not all of the pins on the PSU side need to be populated.

Well first of all never use cables from different power supplies unless you are comfortable enough to check which wire goes where with a multimeter. Or at least have a pinout.

Second all holes do not need to be populated on the power supply side. 8 pin can 100% function with just 6 pins being used on the power supply side, because two of the pins are just for sensing ground.

And third you can use daisy chained cables if they are proper 16AWG daisy chained cables, if you have something like an old Seasonic unit that shipped with 18AWG daisy chained 8 pins then don't use it.

Hard to say at this point, but that kind of stuff can be very variable. Especially when it's something that is serving a huge amount of data like Mega, Steam, etc., It mostly just depends on how heavily the service is being utilized at the time. They have bandwidth maximums as well, so it gets divvied out according to the need.

The actual speed depends on the upload speed of whatever server you're requesting data from. Your results sound perfectly normal.

Games are gettings a lot more bigger these days. Warzone is 52GB (133GB with Modern Warfare),  CSGO is 16GB and Valorant is 15GB. these are just 3 games and you've eaten 83GB already. If budget is an issue, I highly recommend getting HDD for games. You could start with the included 1TB and later buy and install more internal HDD.

You should only install applications that you often use on your SSD, like Windows or most used softwares. Everything else that is heavy on the HDD. Later on when you'll have a bigger budget you could buy some SSD for faster running game, but for now focus on HDD.

The high refresh screen (and the mad Black Friday deal) was the main reason I got the S20FE. Not disappointed.
Anyone who says high refresh is a gimmick either has bad eyesight, or has never used it. I'm never going back.

I'll just throw the Samsung S20 FE out there. You can get them for around $599, and it would do most of what you want.
If you really enjoy using the camera, might be worth seeing what the OnePlus 9 Pro is like (comes out on the 23rd). It'll likely be slightly north of $1,000, but if you keep your phone for a while it might be a good bet.

    Some things to mention:
Most phones with a macro camera, the set up is absolute trash and not really worth having. Those that are decent won't work well in Canada. MP is one of the last things you should focus on when it comes to a camera. Pixel size, pixel binning, sensor size all play a much larger factor in quality. Faster phone navigation will simply come by having a newer SoC; anything 800 series will be snappy in comparison. You can also install custom launchers to increase the snappiness feel. If you're on a carrier with a contract there are other deals to look at.

Most newer phones would not have the 3.5mm audio port, unless you look at LG phones again, and perhaps China branded phones. If you don't need bleeding edge, perhaps the LG V60 ThinQ, good picture, audio port, good proc (SD 865). Or, as the peep above had recommended, the S20 FE, though you'd need an audio dongle to use your 3.5mm cabled IEM's.

I'm not sure if there's a program or a registry edit that allows you to do that, from a quick research I can't find any, but the sensitivity is already pretty low in my opinion and you could easily bypass it by flicking your wrist when you're at the edge of the display

    Made this account just to state this;

He seems so much like a normal person and I love that.

If I could afford to take time off, or just retire and be able to afford it, I would do it tomorrow to spend more time with my family.  I work 70 hours a week, my daily grind includes:

Waking up at 645PM, leaving the house at 700PM, working until 700AM, getting home at 730AM,  daily.  6 days a week.
My wife is already gone to help her grandparents by the time I get home every day.  She's at work as I leave for work.
My one day off, I get 3 hours with my wife before she goes to bed.

I don't have time for my family, or myself.  (and personally the family life has been getting hard).

Personally I think he deserves to take time for his family before it's too late. Here soon I'm going to have to no matter what, it's a struggle.

Take care of yourself Linus, that's the most important. I feel ya.

This is probably for the best. You get serious youtuber burnout, tired, want to do other things in life...etc. Your kids are always number 1.

Linus Media Group can now be self sufficient without Linus. But besides Anthony, there aren't enough people who are "passoniately geeky" beyond belief in LTT.

Riley, James and Dennis do awesome work on Techlinked and it is self sufficient. Techquickie is also self sufficient.
BUT Linus Tech Tips is not fully self sufficient.
Anthony can do hardware reviews and benchmarks.
Alex can do the more "do it yourself" ghetto don't try this at home topics.
But he solid actor behind it was always "Linus Sebastian, a computer geek who worked at NCIX".

If you are planning to retire Linus, you need to bring back Luke for those other "topics" and maybe to fill some of those gaps. At least until you find other staff members to fill that gap.

Also when you do retire from youtube, please continue the WAN show, just for fun and maybe do CES or Computex and LTX or whatever you feel like. Even if you are slowing down, keep some minor activity on youtube like how Gordon Mah only appears at CES and Computex yearly.

dude is hitting that midlife crisis. I'm right there with him. This shit 8-5 job is turning me into a zombie just so i can afford my lifestyle, which is spending 80% of it at work, preparing for work, and missing out my life and kids and family. I have another 17 years of this to look forward to. At least Linus can make a lot of money and actually contemplate retiring at some point in the near future.

Burn out. Can only say that with hindsight though. Happened to me about 3 years ago. Tried to stay at my work (loved the product, the team and the facilities) but the toxic management and quantity of hours meant I just couldn't recover. So I quit.

I still haven't gone back into the work force properly yet but I've been able to pursue some other interests in my life and feel like I've been able to balance some things.

Moving 4K video files from drive to drive or benchmarking over and over will slow the drive due to heat, but gaming shouldn't be a concern.
