Autodesk does not certify gaming GPU for use with AutoCAD. That said, its system requirements for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2024 do not require a workstation GPU. The specification is for a GPU with 8GB VRAM and DirectX 12. See https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-requirements-for-Autodesk-Civil-3D-2024.html

Consider an i5-13500. It runs cooler than the other CPU mentioned in this thread and has performance just below the 7700X and i5-13600KF.

The RTX 4060 has better DirectX 12 and general performance than either the RTX 3060 or W7500.

you could just put a new battery in your current laptop. no need to update the specs if you;re just doing basic tasks.

my laptop is 12 years old and does the tasks you just listed , so what happened to your current laptop

There's absolutely no reason to run Windows Server on a gaming desktop.

As long as you're running less than 10 simultaneous client connections, sharing folders off regular desktop Windows works just fine. (And if you're doing more than that, building a home server or NAS would be a good idea.)

Although I have not personally owned any of their products, I have a few friends that use them with iPads and alike say they quite like it. As someone who sees the iPad as primarily a device for taking notes on, I certainly see this product's appeal.

also depends how technical you want to get. Mikrotik has some good options if you're willing to dive into the CLI.

I agree with @8tg, but I would recommend looking for something a little less integrated, and preferably not from HP.

    Something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/275954109420?hash=item4040258bec:g:urgAAOSw5mxktV3l

might be a better option, if you were to go with the recommend (used) route for this budget.

Definitely. The only good thing about mini pc's like that is their extremely low power draw. Made for a neat server when raspberry pi's were stupidly expensive. (so long as you avoid the ones running off of an emmc)

Go to eBay and get an old office pc:

Whatever fits the budget, the coffee lake ones are pretty cheap, sometimes you can get them for even cheaper. eBay sellers kit them out as ready to use ordeals.

Plug it into whatever monitor with the remaining budget and you’re good to go.
No point in DIYing something like this, especially not on AM3. (Am3 in 2023????)

So at 19feet (6m), you will probably need to look into getting an active or optical cable my friend. At that distance, passive HDMI 2.1 will still work, but not at it's full capability. Here are a few options:

Have you looked at monoprice? They have HDMI to Ethernet adapters usually for reasonable prices.

Are you wanting to send control signals to change inputs or volumes? That's usually the benefit of the all in one systems.

You can pretty easily find first gen Ryzen 5 1600s with a motherboard for around that price. Overall, I would just suggest you go with a newer chipset that uses DDR4 instead of 3.

birdflyer reacted to BetteBalterZen in How do I format a SSD when it’s a new system and it’s the only drive
To add to @Tan3l6 comment, to make sure everything is wiped, click on all drive partitions and delete them, until you have a single drive, on which you click New. This will create new, fresh partitions. And from these partitions, select the Primary one with most space.

birdflyer reacted to Alex Atkin UK in Motherboard ethernet port stuck on 100Mbs?
Almost always a problem with the cable, though occasionally a bad driver.  Rarely a fault with the ethernet port itself, but worth checking no bent pins or fluff stuck inside.  Also try a different port on the router.

I know you said you tested the cable, but that's troubleshooting 101: if a part might be the cause, try swapping it for a different one.

birdflyer reacted to RONOTHAN## in Build advice for a budget mobo + CPU + RAM bundle
It is a good idea to look at some more recent gear than Ivy Bridge, half for longevity sake (we're at the time when Z77 boards are randomly dying out because they're so old) and half because it's just not a good value any more. Early Ryzen gear is some of the cheapest you can find. Looking on eBay, you can find R5 3600s for about £60-90 depending on luck. B450 boards are somewhere around £40-60 and 16GB of DDR4 is about £20-30 if you price shop for it. Assuming average priceing for all of that, that should put you right at your £150 excluding looking for any sort of bundle deals that may be out there. Plus this is me just glancing at UK eBay, if I was actually looking for stuff I'm sure I could find better deals and get it close to £125 or lower, plus local listings tend to be a bit cheaper as well so you might be able to look and find something even cheaper that way.

birdflyer reacted to Zando_ in Which of these type of RAM would you recommend?
RAM is RAM. Look at the speed and timings vs the price, buy the one that's the fastest for the smallest price increase.

birdflyer reacted to PcBeExpensive in Of theses custom builds made on iBUYPOWER's site which would you recommend as the best bang for my buck? (They have some good price right now!)
I honestly reccomen you build your own. Problems with prebuilts is they don't specify what RAM they use or what card they use. With building it's usually cheaper too.
