It's just starting to show It's age, that and I bought it second hand. With work ramping back up I would like an upgrade.
Yeah I get that but it's kind of a low priority for me.

Jae Tee reacted to Prayag in Jellyfin the Best streaming software for YOUR MEDIA and a great Plex alt...
I am a former Plex user and switched to Jellyfin 6 months from now...I was really happy that all of media was easily accessible ,Jellyfin was customizable as hell unlike and all of my x264 media not getting transcoded while playing on any device I had.

Why I think Jellyfin is better the Plex:
It is open source (so free) It is customizable You have access to YOUR MEDIA unlike Plex where you have to go to the side bar and click on more to even see you server and dogging all the extra movies that you don't have There are no adds More better UI IMO. Custom CSS Skin Options from which you can edit the way it looks and many community members including me have made some great Skins for it that change the way it looks completely  Huge plugin library Many clients Growing community
Jellyfin's stock looks might look familiar for some people who use Emby as it is a fork of Emby but keep in mind that they have changed the UI and the backend side of things drastically.

Jellyfin can run on nearly any device(as long as you don't have to transcode anything) you have and on nearly any platform(supported platform list given below). I personally use it with RPi4 4GB Ram Ver on docker with 13 more containers and a NGiNX reverse proxy(You can see their docs[link below] for other reverse proxy and external access service setup).

List of Supported Platform you can install the Jellyfin SERVER:
Docker Debian and Ubuntu Arch Linux Fedora and CentOS Generic linux MacOS Windows (Portable Available) FreeBSD (Community) All clients can be found at: https://jellyfin.org/clients/ | https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/clients/index.html

Little late here. If your looking for a free alternative I'd suggest Emby, or if your more into open source jellyfin. Emby is a freemiem software meaning that for most of it it's free but there are some cool features locked behind a pay wall. Jellyfin on the other hand is completely open source. It's a bit harder to get used to for me but there is no money involved anywhere.

Can't hurt. They do go bad eventually, but you should be on the lookout for anything that may be obstructing airflow. Dust in a heatsink, ventilation holes being covered, stuff like that.

Jae Tee reacted to RONOTHAN## in What form of Raid or similar is best for me?
You need RAID 5. Write speeds will not improve in this config, but it may improve read speeds (depends on what you are using to run the RAID). That being said, unless this is going to be where your backup is, you want to have another location to have your data if you care about not losing data, as drives tend to fail at a similar time.

FIrst of all, raid is not a backup, you really want anouther set of drives as a backup in case something happens that causing all the drives to lose data?

Are you using software raid? Id suggest it as its normally better these days.

Something simmilar to raid 5 is my pick here, and the risk of data loss isn't that high(and you have backups right)

We have a blanket ban on politics currently in this forum.
Lastly, Removal of an App due to policies, violations of polices or other is not a Tech News topic.

You mean Twitter? Which allowed an outright secessionist movement to operate all Summer? Also, have you used Parler enough to know they don't follow the guidelines? Or did you just follow the "I'm told this bad, so this bad!" school of information processing?

There was a thread a few weeks ago about stuff in this area. It's always the same. It doesn't matter what actually happens on a new social media network. Either the network comes to heel to the Big Players or they'll eliminate it. Because all of the Social Media companies are always in violation of the ToS on the platforms. That's why being the platform holder is always the most important part. So you either pay up to the Mafia or you get your knees broken.

lol the violence at the capitol this week is nothing compared to what we have seen all year. Why act now? They dont want us to know politicians, corporations, and the chinese communist party are in bed. They want to control what we know.

Corporate america runs sweat shops in Asia. Corporate America want to be the judge and jury on what we can say and think. It's amazing how people keep falling for corporate shilling and posturing on moral/justice issues.
