Cruiseshipfan got a reaction from LukeTim in What Programming Language To Learn?
C was the very first language I learnt which was through university. I learnt C for about 8-10 weeks then we moved to matlab for 3-4 weeks, that was the first course. Then next course (we worked directly with a microprocessor so no OS) we did 4 weeks of assembly then went back to C although we didn't actually get taught anything new except how to use it with hardware and reading a mp datasheet. Now I have to spend 13 weeks on C++. Starting on C didn't seem all that difficult to me although I haven't really done much else.

Except knowing Abbott this wont be used to do that he will do it to attack piracy. But the way he wants to do it is by blocking or punishing all those who use services that are linked to piracy or even just file-sharing.

Cruiseshipfan got a reaction from GoodBytes in Windows 8 being extremely slow
So extremely good news. It looks like it was an issue with windows 8 itself. As after updating to 8.1 my laptop is quick and responsive just like it should be for the hardware. Changing between things is near instant now instead of waiting a few minuted. So much better, best thing microsoft has done in years.

However the size of the country is bigger the population is not spread out. We are fairly compact in terms of used land. Also you will pay more with Abbotts internet. Any common sense can see that. The initial price difference between the two policies is very small as well as costing not very much (for the average person its a lot but for a government its not, to do the whole country the NBN was roughly $50 billion, they are building a highway in Melbourne worth $8 billion) anyway. The cost of the plans for the average person are very similar to what they are now, if you have a decent ISP, if I get the NBN I can get 25 times my speed for less then half the cost, or I can get 100 times my speed for the same price, and that is not to mention the upgrade coming in December that upgrades the speed to 1Gbps.

When you think about the coalitions plan they need to remove all the copper leading to the nodes with fibre. Then replace the nodes with new nodes. All while maintaining the copper which is worthless and has a inspection failure rate of 7 out of every 8 sections inspected. They have even started wrapping plastic shopping bags around the copper to try and make it last longer. Copper is expensive to replace and the current copper isn't worth a cent. Then when they want to increase the speed they then need to replace the nodes again and replace all the copper. So why not just skip the step of buying and installing an extra set of node and additional cost of copper maintenance.

There are some areas, which are most at need of a full replacement (which my area is one) will not get it because of the coalition. The copper in some areas is useless, my internet regularly drops out as it cannot handle it, at times it is even slower then dial up.

Turnbull already rejected the petition. This government will not listen to any Australian, they will only listen to the ex-Australian now American Murdock, who should of lost his say when gave up citizenship.

The only hope we have is for the minor parties in the senate to notice the masses wanting it. As it has become Australia's biggest online petition ever.

Yes it was an issue in the function prototype. I don't know how I didn't spot it when I first checked. I think it was because I did a copy and paste to make sure they were correct but then needed to change it later one. However it did seem to be hiding a bunch of other errors, which lucky for me were pretty easy to fix.  Thanks.

    Misunderstandings?

No, we didn't misunderstand anything, you simply do not understand what WE(consumers) want.

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack because of this, but the majority of Windows users do not want Modern UI and again, the majority of Xbox users do not want a system that forces us to be online once a day, but that doesn't mean we don't want online features like day one digital releases.

Forcing stuff onto us makes us not want it. If they didn't force once a day sign ins and the Kinect, then I might have bought the Xbox One day one, but because you want to force these policies onto me(personally) it puts me off to buying your system entirely, and I bet many others felt the same. It is great that they reverted on these policies and restrictions, but now I'm not even interested in the console.

And with the Modern UI example, I know how to manage it and know the shortcuts, I just don't want to deal with that kind of ecosystem and I bet most users don't want to either. If anyone disagrees, please feel free to PM me, I don't want to derail this topic and I was merely posting an example.

The Australian government must really be annoying companies right now. With both this and their plan to combat the "Australian Tax" big companies stand to loose a lot of money, by banning Geo-blocking and other means. They deserve to lose it in Australia due to the higher prices we have paid them for years.

Cruiseshipfan got a reaction from juanmaom in Windows 8 and Proxy servers
After recently getting a laptop running windows 8 I have found that windows 8 does not make using proxy servers easy. When I am at my University, I need to connect through a proxy server, but ever since switching to windows 8, I have run into a world of issues. Firstly there is the issue of the proxy server setting being in use when I am at home. For example, I will be starting up a program that requires the internet and a popup will appear asking me to sign into the server, but I am at home so it becomes a pain, as I don't want to change settings every day. Finally, and most important is the issues with windows 8 and the proxy server, it means I cannot connect. I know you cannot help with that one though.

So what I am asking is there anyway to set proxy setting for one network so they are not all affected.

Cruiseshipfan reacted to EChondo in Microsoft Changing Stances: Xbox One making more sense
I highly doubt Microsoft will be making games cheaper. This is Microsoft we are taking about. If they get rid of used games, then there is no competition for Microsoft. If you can only buy and sell games to authorized retailers, then Microsoft and the publishers can charge whatever they want for their games.

This is nothing like Steam. If Steam stopped doing sales, then everyone will be buying games from Amazon and GreenManGaming and getting Steam keys from them. Steam has competition on the PC, Microsoft does not.

Microsoft is trying to sway the minds of the people, but if you were smart, you would see this hypocrisy. Look at Microsoft Office for an example, there is NO competition for Microsoft Office(except open source software) and look at the price of it, it's over a hundred dollars, some versions are a couple hundred. Microsoft has no competition for their Office program, therefore they can price it whatever they want.

If you guys honestly believe Microsoft is going to make games cheaper, then I feel sorry for you.

Some of the units are skipped to make things simpler. This happens quite a lot with measurements, in fact I don't think I have ever seen them used. Also yes as stated above Bytes are not measured directly to the metric system. However, sometimes it is. Storage devices regularly say 1GB = 1000MB, however operating systems say 1GB = 1024MB.

Nothing s really metric in computers. As even bytes are 8 bits, and a nibble is 4 bits.

The 30 countries will most likely be from Europe. Microsoft have show us here in Australia that they don't care about us. Even with their tv thing is windows media centre, it doesn't work in Australia. Basically anything coming out of the US making statements on how it can work with TV programs, is not set up to work in Australia. Its not like we are that small.

Its pretty much only Americans who buy the Xbox. Playstation wins everywhere else in the world. So depends on how smart Americans are, as to decide which console wins.

Never ever use AVG, it is by far the worst you can get. My friend run a store and around 25% of the PC's brought in with a virus have AVG installed. 50-60% have no security and the rest is evenly spread. If you have a decent computer the modern Nortons 360 is actually really good and majority of the time I have no issue. In fact I have only had it give a false reading once and I just had to tell it to leave he file and the issue was solved.
