  1. Use clonezilla and it is also open source
  2. Might want to run the Microsoft Surface Data Eraser tool before reselling. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/microsoft-surface-data-eraser
  3. Did you disable your wifi/lan when you booted back into windows to reinstall the gpu drivers that you downloaded? because if you did not then windows could have reinstall their gpu drivers.
  4. I deleted the existing Windows RE partition and redid step 5, however reagentc /info still shows Windows RE location: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition2\Recovery\WindowsRE Should be Windows RE location: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition3\Recovery\WindowsRE
  5. With the update of KB5028997 my recovery partition did not have enough free space so I got an update error for KB5028997. I followed this guide from Microsoft https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/topic/kb5028997-instructions-to-manually-resize-your-partition-to-install-the-winre-update-400faa27-9343-461c-ada9-24c8229763bf#articleFooterSupportBridge=communityBridge The issue is that the Windows RE location was moved to partition2 instead of partition3 Windows RE status: Enabled Windows RE location: \\?\GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition2\Recovery\WindowsRE Boot Configuration Data (BCD) identifier: cc6dc1a1-baee-11eb-ba82-b870f4a24531 Recovery image location: Recovery image index: 0 Custom image location: Custom image index: 0 DISKPART> list part Partition ### Type Size Offset ------------- ---------------- ------- ------- Partition 1 Primary 100 MB 1024 KB Partition 2 Primary 222 GB 101 MB Partition 3 Primary 1085 MB 222 GB I have tried the following xcopy /e /h /k /o /x /y \GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition2\Recovery\WindowsRE \GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition3\Recovery\WindowsRE "File not found - WindowsRE 0 File(s) copied" bcdedit /set {current} recoveryenabled No bcdedit /set {current} recoverysequence \GLOBALROOT\device\harddisk0\partition3\Recovery\WindowsRE "The entry list data is not valid as specified. 6. I wonder if a second GPU for stream encoding would be useful in this build.
  7. Hi all, I have this idea of monitoring all my Windows PC's hard drive health (SMART) on my home network from my windows server VM. That way I can passively monitor if a drive is going bad without having to install software on every device and then. Some ideas were to use Hard Disk Sentinel or crystal disk info to monitor mapped network shared drives, however I have not got this to work. Other ideas I am thinking about is to run a script on every pc to save the SMART info to a network share and then have some software load the info to display it. Has anyone tried this and have a better method of archiving this?
  8. Agreed, I think better testing is needed to get a better idea on the cooling and performance of this product. Maybe Gamers Nexus will do a video on it.
  9. It looks really neat, just needs fan controls.
  10. @LinusTech Should have used Cat8 cable inside the house instead of Cat6a while all the walls were open, might as well pay a little bit more on the cable with the shielded keystone jack and have a max data rate of 40 Gbps instead of 10Gbps with Cat6a. 10Gbps is fast but if you wanted to upgrade to 25Gbps you are now limited by the cable.
  11. Linus changed the GPU to a 3080TI from at 3060TI also changed the CPU to a 5800X which as far as i know was not sponsored. So think of it like this, the sponsorship money was given to Grant in one way or another.
  12. Hi all, I am having issues adding a samsung 970 evo plus 1TB to my system, I have a ROG STRIX X470-F GAMING Motherboard which has two m.2 sockets (Socket A and socket B). Socket A has a nvme ssd which i am using as my boot drive. Socket B only supports nvme at 2X speed, so i can read and wright at about 1.5 GB per second however the samsung 970 evo plus 1TB read/write up to 3,500/3,300 MB/s. So I planed for this and got a ORICO PSM2 M.2 NVME TO PCI-E 3.0 X4 EXPANSION CARD so i can put it in either my other free PCIE16 slots. The problem is not matter what i do the m.2 in the Expansion card has an initiation issue, in windows if i go to disk management it just hangs there. The drive does show up in device manager however if i right click on it and go properties the window will hang. I cannot even restart the system because it is stuck at trying to initialize the drive. I do have the samsung nvme drivers installed with the latest version of windows 10 and latest BIOS. The drive does show in the BIOS however when i tried to test in some linux boot disks they fail to start (maybe of the disk initialize?). I was able to boot a partition magic image and it saw the drive, was able to format it however same initiation issue in windows. So i moved the new nvme to my 2x m.2 socket. Kind of would have liked to run at 4x speed through. Have i missed something?
  13. Maybe use a Windows 10 Theme for Linux https://github.com/B00merang-Project/Windows-10
  14. Really nice to see Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance featured, would be cool to show off the game's multi monitor support. I am hoping this game will feature in more videos. Good to have you on board commander.
  15. I am thinking of building a 1u home server/router and was looking into cooling and found this https://mitxpc.com/products/l3 Supports Intel Socket LGA 115X/2011/2066/1356/1366 Supports AMD AM2/AM3/AM2+/AM3+/FM1/FM2 Supports up to TDP 165 Watts Recommended for 1U Server and up I am guessing it will also fit on AM4? Has anyone tried it, looks really neat.
  16. $1149 - ST18000NE000 https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/hard-drives-&-ssds/hdd-3.5-drives/85058-st18000ne000 $2199 - EXTERNAL DESKTOP DRIVE https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/hard-drives-&-ssds/external-desktop-drives/89291-sthj36000800 $99 cheaper to get the external drive, hmm.
  17. Just normal home 1GB Gigabyte Network (10 gigabit switches are still quite costly), will leave an upgrade option so i can add in a 10gbe nic. The drives i am looking at are Seagate IronWolf Pro NAS 18TB HDD, ST18000NE000. Can always look at used server motherboards. The main issue was working out which raidz and the supported hard drive size. Thanks for the help.
  18. The x570d4u-2l2t is about $850 AUD motherboard, i kind of am looking at maybe a $150 AUD motherboard (as it is, it is going to cost about $1000 AUD per hard drive) Maybe something like B550M-PLUS supports ECC, has 2.5 ethernet (though not intel) and an extra pcie slot for extra sata expansion cards. Though i still need to do some more research in this area.
  19. Still deciding on the hardware, but something like AMD RYZEN CPU AMD Motherboard with intel gigabit Ethernet controller 32GB ECC memory (can always upgrade to 64GB if needed) With the scrubs taking a day is that only for the first scrub or would i need to do that every 2 weeks? Can i use the server still while scrubbing?
  20. Hi all, i am planning on building a new home storage server and have been researching on which tech to use (i think i have worked out all the hardware I would need for the build), I have about 20TB of data atm and i want to aim for about 50TB to 70TB. I am thinking so far on using TrueNAS CORE with zfs (though not fully decided yet). I want to use 18TB NAS CMR drives but i cannot work out which raidz that I would need to use. My first idea is 4x18TB drives in raidz1 (which would give me about 50TB of usable storage) however though my research it seems that this is a very risky idea. So the second idea is 5x18TB drives in raidz2(which is about 50TB) however i am losing 2 drives out of the 5. So maybe then 6x18TB drives in raidz2(which is about 70TB) though that would be quite costly. I am planning on buying a second hand LTO5 tape library for creating backups. After going down the rabbit hole of rebuild times and risk of failure i am not sure on what hard drive capacity is safe to use, what raidz to use. Also i am not sure if TrueNAS CORE is the best option for me as i am not sure how long scrub times would take (i think you have to run them every two weeks? would 50TB takes days to scrub?). Help a fellow geek out on deciding which raidz and hard drive capacity to use to achieve somewhere between 50TB to 70TB of capacity. Thanks
  21. If you look at the specs of a 2700x https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-7-2700x System Memory Specification Up to 2933MHz I have a 2700x with ram speed of 3200 (can overclock to 3400).
