  1. Hello all, So both my parents are now pc gamers, but they play on our living room / basement tvs. The living room tv is a 65" 4k 60hz hdr tv, that my mom usually plays on. the basement tv is a 55" 1080p 60hz tv that my dad plays on. the solution we want is to have some sort of switch so that they can easily swap which tv each pc is on without unplugging any cables since my dad wants the hdr sometimes. he also wants support for above 60hz so that he can upgrade the tv in the future anyone have any ideas, we looked at some hdmi matrix's but havent seen many that support high refresh rate
  2. have you tried setting this chrome flag? chrome://flags/#ignore-gpu-blocklist i found i had similar issues, though youtube on my pc is really odd. when in chome i cant see 4k res (i have a 4k monitor). switching to opera on the same yt acc and suddenly i can see 4k

  4. the first thing i would try is to open disk manager and see if the drive has any unused unformatted space. if so you could just create a new volume and have the drive split. otherwise i think the only other way to fix that is reinstall windows and just select the drive, dont set the partition to less than the max drive size
  5. after my original set of troubleshooting, i also tried a new ram kit, a different gpu (3070 ti), and downclocked the memory from 2933 to 2600. in game settings i tried to set frame lock, which some people found to fix it. the pc still crashed, however it took longer to crash with the new gpu.
  6. never went above 72 c and that was during like p95. its living under a 360mm aio
  7. it was a team group t-force vulcan 2x8gb 3000mhz kit. i also tried a corsair vengeance lpx 2x8gb 3000mhz kit
  8. swapping gpu didnt fix it, changed ram speed down to 2600 and it still crashed. the gpu swap seemed to let it play for longer before crashing, but it still crashed the same way
  9. yeah no i should have tried downclocking first, but didnt think of it and started trying hardware first. i had already swapped the gpu when i read your comment
  10. will try next, tried a different ram kit also at 3000mhz and crashed again. im trying a different gpu, but ill try that soon
  11. hello all, so i recently made a post asking for some help regarding my dads gaming pc. While playing sea of thieves, after 15-30 min his pc will randomly shut down/restart entirely with no crash logs. here is a list of his specs -i7 8700 - 16 gb 2933mhz ram - rtx 3080 - corsair rm850x - asus tuf gaming z370 plus - playing on visio 65" 4k tv and here is a list of things we have tried -uninstall and verify game files -update all gpu and cpu drivers - reinstall windows - raise and lower in game settings - upgraded psu from off-brand chinese unit to this corsair unit - stress tested for a few hours - TM5 extreme1 - OCCT cpu, ram, and gpu stress tests, all of them ran for 30 min - cinebench r23 ran for 30 min Sea of thieves is the only game that his pc does this in. he can play Tiny Tinas Wonderlands, Borderlands 3, and many other games completely fine including vr games. im going to try a different ram kit cause the kit he is running used to cause me issues in BL3 on a different computer, but after that im at a loss for what could cause this issue
  12. i looked at it previously and it was some OEM chinese brand, not a main stream one. i cant remember what it was. if i remember correctly it also didnt have enough 8 pins, only 2 with a pigtail. we found an adapter that could join 2 pigtails to one 8 pin so we used that "temporarily" and have apparently forgotten about it lol. hasnt presented an issue till now i guess
  13. Hello all, so my dad has been having an issue with his pc while playing sea of thieves. After maybe 45 min to 1.5 hr of gaming, his pc will entirely shut off. No BSOD or anything, just powers off. he can play many other games, such as Tiny Tinas Wonderlands, Deep Rock Galactic, as well as many VR games. We have never had any issues in other games, only SoT. All drivers are up to date, windows and SoT have been freshly reinstalled a few times. He is running - I7 8700k - 16 gb 3000mt/s ram - asus tuf gaming z370-plus gaming - MSI RTX 3080 - Unknown 800w PSU This pc was a prebuilt that we have swapped the ram, gpu, and an m.2. my original thought is the psu, though its confusing that SoT ONLY would be tripping it and something like Wonderlands doesnt.
  14. i was asking if he was intending to go into a laptop. im not sure which laptops dont have wifi antennas built in from factory. but i agree with the last part, just get a pci-e wifi card if youre going into a desktop
  15. for what machine? if its a desktop there are plenty of PCI-E wifi cards that come with antennas. if for a laptop, you wont need the antennas. you need more info in your post
  16. this would be the best bet, but again only if the cable isnt stapled. also theres no guarantee that the telephone jack runs into the room we need, so pulling it through wouldnt do much. i would definitely also reccomend looking into a higher end aftermarket router, or adding a new access point as a middle man between your router and pc. like putting it in a hallway halfway between your router and pc. pretty much most things ubiquiti is good, though im not that up on all the good networking brands. also tp link, or synology. could also keep an eye out for these brands but used, and even find cisco stuff used
  17. i would definitely upgrade the gpu to start, but you will have to upgrade the cpu later to match. I also recently got the a neo g8, and am running a dual monitor setup with a samsung 27" 1080p 240hz monitor. 5800x3d 16gb 3000mhz 3070 ti b550 mobo even with my 3070 ti, i also struggle to watch youtube and play games on the g9 at the same time, usually making both stutter. getting this monitor is even making me consider upgrading my gpu, since im one that likes to yank the sliders.
  18. what is your wifi setup? what wireless router, what pc/laptop you are running? how many walls are between the router and pc? are you experiencing drops or just slow wifi? if you have access to your breaker panel, you could try switching off the power to one of the rooms and see if the other also turns off. otherwise hardware stores tend to carry circut tracing devices if you feel like going that way. im going to add on to my previous statements about powerline adapters. staying on the same circut isnt actually necessary, but is the best option. some breaker panels have filtering between circuts, which could interfere with the adapters. generally if youre on the same main feed (say in same house) they have a possibility of working no matter the circut, but performance can be quite degraded. usually about 1/4 the speed you are expecting, or about the same speed as wifi would be.
  19. How far away from your router is your pc? you could just run a long Cat 6 Ethernet cable from the router to your pc. Just so you know, Rj-25 is a telephone connector used for wired telephones. It does not have any capability to transfer wired internet over ethernet. For example, RJ11, RJ14, and RJ25 are the most commonly used interfaces for telephone connections for one-, two-, and three-line service, respectively. Although these standards are legal definitions in the United States, some interfaces are used worldwide. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Registered_jack) Powerline adapters definitely work, i used to use them. but they definitely have a performance and reliability drop. The biggest thing to think about when using them is the circuts in the house. Many rooms are on different circuts, and therefore the powerline adapters will not work. Your data is also having to fight with the noise of just your houses electricity. I dont have any experience with Moca, though there was the LTT video about it. It definitely would be more reliable and faster since its on a dedicated wire away from electricity, however coax is still only 1 wire. normal Cat 6 ethernet cable is 8 wires (4 twisted pairs) Before you continue, check your circuts in your house and make sure that the same circut runs from your router to pc. Your best bet would just be to run a really long cable, though again im not sure how far your router is from your pc.
  20. cause they were cat 5 and we wanted cat 6 we figured it out though, a recent update unchecked an important setting. turned it back on and everything is fine now
  21. Hello. recently me and my dad made the switch to pfsense, and we got it working better than our last setup. however, yesterday my dad tried changing 2 cables from cat 5 to cat 6. modem-> pfsense box, pfsense box -> network switch. when the new cables were installed (which test out fine), the wan went down in pfsense and wouldnt go back up. when he switched back to the old cable, wan came back, but now our network is really bad. we can browse the web just fine, watching youtube and such. but nothing can be downloaded, and we cant even access speedtest.net . we cannot download any windows installation media, or games or anything. not sure what is happening, and would like some help pfsense box is a 2012 mac mini server, and we are using a thunderbolt adapter to go to the switch.
  22. one very quick thing you can do is short the pins on the motherboard. this can eliminate the button because all it does is complete the circut between pins when touched. if youre careful and touch the right pins with a screwdriver it will turn on the same as normal
  23. My point is that from my experience, 1st gen 3d-Vcache is somewhat unreliable, and i had to learn a ton to get mine working right. im not sure what kind of silicon lottery you might get, and its up to you if you feel comfortable enough to risk it. theres a ok chance that it would be totally fine though as for a noticeable difference, between 3700x and 5700x or even 5800x, id say yes. i came from a 2700x and had pretty big gains across the board.
  24. The 5800x3d is ok, i run it daily but i had quite a few issues to figure out before i could really enjoy it. besides im still having an issue that i think is just down to silicon lottery and such. especially since its the first gen 3d vcache, silicon lottery is probably going to have more effect. issues i found in mine - runs hot. the extra vcache insulates the cpu and makes it hard to cool. adding more cooling capacity doesnt help. had to run corecycler and an all core undervolt to help get it in a range acceptable to me (just barely under 80c when gaming at 50-60% load) - currently have a constant hardware error (event id 19, cache hierarchy error). from my research so far, thats linked to fclk (for ram) but im only running 3000 mhz ram. still had errors running 2133. might be the undervolt, but ive yet to put more hours in trying to get it tuned right personally i would just go with a 5800x or 5900x. im still debating if i make the switch myself. or even try and go 7th gen
  25. thats still less than 10tb of storage. even if you were 100% max on storage, youd still have some extra storage to tide you over till you get more drives later. at the end of it though, its your money and choice. i havent heard much if ID cooling or silicon power stuff, but of what i have heard they arent the best. going with more reputable brands have less of a chance to leave you in trouble. especially the ram since its pretty easy to corrupt data and your windows install if the ram fails
