    The form factor of an iPad would probably be far more ideal for what you are going for. I would watch a few reviews of the different models and see what works best for you. Apple offers a list of the current supported iPad models here. I think a viable option for you, where you already have a few portable devices but want to give iPad a try would be to look around on eBay for a second hand device that is in decent shape and currently supported.
