  4. We need the dump files to have any sense of what happened, look for them in the minidump folder. C:\Windows\minidump. Copy them to a different directory, zip and upload the file.
  5. Your friend can use driver sweeper to remove any trace of the "bad" driver after he uninstalls it from the device manager then apply the "good" driver instead. This time it should stick. http://www.guru3d.com/content_page/guru3d_driver_sweeper.html
  6. This is most common when the BIOS setting responsible for the SATA Mode has been changed after the fact (after Windows has been installed). Switch between IDE and AHCI modes it should boot when one of those are set. Now if the setting was set to RAID it's a different story and a real pickle. Let me know .

  12. Hi I went through the dump files and they are all similar. I see a fair bunch of outdated drivers that can be the cause but if I have to guess I'll blame McAfee personal firewall for these bug checks. The way we can use the PC to help us find the offending driver is by using Driver Verifier. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/101379-driver-verifier-enable-disable.html make sure you read the instructions thoroughly ! DV is designed to bug check the machine and it takes up a fair bit of system resources to don't be alarmed as the laptop might be sluggish. Bug check the machine a couple of time then post the new dumps. What are the bug checks you are getting? You can choose "Disable automatic restart on system failure" from the advanced boot menu (F8 on Boot) that way the PC won't restart automatically so you'll be able to at least give us hints as to what is going on with the BCCodes.
  14. This could be a thermal issue. Do you monitor the temps somehow? Try speccy -http://www.piriform.com/speccy Does Furmark do the same? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100356-video-card-stress-test-furmark.html What is the make and model of your PSU?

I have no info about your system, so it's up to you to verify. Did you look into downloading HBCD?

The CPU has nothing to with it if the bug check is always 0xF4.. Did you look for a BIOS update?

0xF4 bug checks with a third parameter = 3 is a system critical process terminated which Windows can't continue without, that forces the box to bug check. More often than not it's blamed on csrss.exe but that is simply because it's the one that allows user-mode in Windows. 0xF4 are also attributed to storage and virtual memory issues. I will need the kernel Dump to know more . If it's storage related, be it a faulty SATA cable / port or even the storage solution itself I doubt there would be any dumps created, but it's worth a shot. Download Hiren's Boot CD and boot into MiniXP that will allow you to check if the dumps were created and extract them if so. The folder the minidumps are located: C:\Windows\minidump The Kernel dump, a much larger file you'll need to upload it to an external hosting service (dropbox\skydrive), is a lone file in the Windows directory. C:\Windows\MEMORY.dmp
  18. Yep it seems to be the culprit. This might be a simple fix, but until I get to look at the dumps I can't tell you.
  19. That's small enough, this is odd.. You can upload the dumps to your skydrive or dropbox for that matter and I'll have a look at them tomorrow .
  20. Hmm, how much does it weigh (Kb/MB)?
  21. Sure . Simply choose More Reply Options at the bottom right and you'll get an Attach option at the bottom where you can upload the file.
  22. The dumps contain valuble information as to what the fault was. I (or anyone else with knowledge about debugging Windows) can analyze them and suggest actions to be taken based upon them. But if you don't want to, that is your choice.
