  1. the 850 is more than enough, but the 950 is a "Fuck you" level drive. the point of having it is either you have an INTENSE load on your drives (You don't) or you just want the fastest computer on the block. So... the same reason I use a 980Ti to game at 1440P 60Hz in Rocket League and Plague Inc.
  2. Is there some way you could set up a network share folder? That may actually be a really dumb thing to say, I'm no network genius, but I use a network share with my school from home to transfer solidworks files all the time.
  3. Fun little "projects" are made even more fun when there is a possibility every LTT viewer will see the finished product!

  4. The 970M can handle Fallout 4 at a respectable framerate, so I think it could handle CSGO, haha. I've never used a 860M before though, so I can't speak much on it. You may also be CPU bound there, if CSGO needs a high single core speed, since they run at like... 2.5GHz nominal.
  5. 860M is just a 760M, and the 760M is quite a bit slower than even a 760. I'd say you're in GTX 750 territory or worse for GPU quality, so lacking 860M I'd say. I have a GS70 with the 970M, feels good in most games to me.
  6. poke around and find yourself an old quadro/fire pro card. you can get one from a few generations back stupidly cheap, and it lets you use some fancy features and stuff. (I got a Quadro 600 for $20 to use with SolidWorks)
  7. go for it. what surround gaming? Cause I want that next
  8. If I were in your shoes, and had an M.2 Slot, I'd get this one. http://www.microcenter.com/product/456000/950_PRO_512GB_PCIe_30_M2_Internal_Solid_State_Drive all the speed of a 750, $50 cheaper, and smaller to boot!
  9. Honestly, your first build looks fine. take the PSU and case from the second, and you'll be golden. If you want Pascal, then do it, lol. Lord know I don't need a 980Ti for my 1440p screen to play rocket league, but it makes me happy, so screw the haters
  10. can't overclock non-k skylake any more man... sorry
  11. Not if you change the Motherboard you don't, OEM licenses like the ones on Dells and HPs are often Bulk SKUs, and are entirely non-transferable.
  12. https://www.massdrop.com/buy/royal-kludge-rg-987 I know you looked at it, but mass drop so... cheaper!
  13. well.... thank you for saving my computer before... yeah... I just finished the loop 3 weeks ago D':
  14. Wait... Fuck, why no glycol? I'm running a glycol/PETG loop right now.
  15. I would too, but fancy coolers aren't everyone's cup of tea. In addition, at least that one is reference, a real boon for watercooling.
  16. This would be my choice, for no other reason that better power delivery than reference. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B014PXHC6M/?tag=pcpapi-20 Although, if you care none about the cooler, MSI has one for $609 here: http://www.microcenter.com/product/453354/GeForce_GTX_980_Ti_6GB_GDDR5_V1_Video_Card
  17. Eh, I only run 1440P on my 980Ti, I'm just going by what others say. It certainly can't do EVERY game at 4K though, lol. I second doing 390X2 btw
  18. Can it run 4K? Yes! Ultra? No! don't expect above medium settings. Even 980Ti's struggle at that resolution.
  19. Sounds like you need to do one of 3 things: 1. turn it to 4.4Ghz 2. turn your voltage up 3. get a better cooler.
  20. the last .5GB is there, yeah, but it runs at the same speed it would if it just cached the extra data in the RAM anyway, so I don't really count it.
  21. About $12 for a sheet of it at your local Home Depot
  22. GTX 780 is about equal to a GTX 970. I say 780 if you can get a good one cheap. don't forget, even though it has 1GB less of ram, it really only has .5GB less of ram, because the 970 is a 3.5GB card in the real world.
  23. just remember, BCLK x Ratio = Frequency, so at a ratio of 39, BCLK 120, you'll be up around 4.68Ghz. that might be a bit much for your chip. See if you can fine tune it by DECREASING the multiplier and jumping the BCLK. (ie 35 x 120 for 4.2Ghz)
