  1. are there any risks to running this PSU if it's not enough? I only started wondering because the *minimum* PSU requirement is 750W so
  2. Hello guys! I just bought an Asus TUF RX 6800XT OC card and looking to implement it in my system in the next week or so. I am currently running a Ryzen 5 5600X and not looking to overclock and the PSU I currently have in my system is a 750W EVGA P2 - I was wondering if this is enough or if I should consider moving to a 850W PSU like an RM850x? I'm looking to potentially overclock the GPU but won't be doing it off the mark. What do you guys think? I just wanted to check and I'm sorry if this is a stupid question. Would rather be safe than sorry. Thank you. P.s. my current build CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15S chromax.black 82.51 CFM CPU Cooler Motherboard: MSI MEG B550 UNIFY ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory Storage: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Storage: ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT 8 GB AORUS Video Card Case: Lian Li Lancool II Mesh ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply: EVGA P2 750 W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
  3. Okay, will do. What do you think of the build list so far? In terms of compatibility?
  4. Okay, this is what I have so far then: I opted for the "kit 3" in the link I mentioned before which includes the xd64 PCB and the (2.25U Lshift) aluminium plate. Only thing I have missing is the stabilizers - do you know where I could get those brand (Durok and Zeal) of stabilizers from?
  5. @Eschew @geo3 ahhh my bad! I've screenshotted and shown below: I was also debating this (kit 3): https://kprepublic.com/products/xd60-xd64-3-0-pcb-custom-mechanical-keyboard-kit-underglow-rgb-gh60-60-programmable-mx-alps-stem-split-spacebar-type-c?variant=11852302516268 Apologies for the mistake
  6. @Eschew @geo3 thanks for the recommendations guys, just bee looking at it now and watching youtube videos on how to build a mechanical keyboard. I was debating getting this: https://kprepublic.com/cart Obivously doesn't include the switches or the keycaps yet but I know I will probably want to get Kailh BOX red (probably buy it from overclockers or something) and keycaps I'll shop around until I find double shot PBT ones that I like. Really appreciate all the help!
  7. Hey guys, Sorry to be a pain but I was looking to build a DIY mech keyboard, including buying PCB and case, however I'm struggling to find sites that: a) sell PCBs and cases, and b) have it in stock? Also, that are based in the UK/Europe and/or can deliver to the UK. Also, are there any good guides to the process of building a mechanical from scratch that you would recommend? Please let me know. Thank you!
  8. Fairs, truth is I'm quite interested in overclocking and that seems to be something almost non-existent with Ryzen chips so that's why I'm kind of leaning towards Intel - and this is obviously coupled with the fact Intel has an advantage in gaming. I see what you're saying but like I've stated above, overclocking is something of interest to me for my gaming PC and to be honest I already run a work machine on a Ryzen 3700X so I'm happy with my "efficient" running system. Only reason I'm not using that system for gaming is I like to keep my work system separate and I really enjoyed building a PC so would love the prospect of going through the process and building again but this time with the focus solely on gaming performance and some nod to overclocking rather than productivity and efficiency. I guess I could wait until the end of the month but I would also like to game sooner rather than later I'm happy to spend more time researching and considering other options. I am also looking towards the reviews of the new RTX 3000 line and see how important PCIe gen 4 might be - although I've seen quite a few Z490 motherboards demonstrating support for PCIe gen 4 for future CPUs that support gen 4 from Intel (Rocket Lake-S I believe?). I always thought, and also looking from reviews, that the 10700k was a waste of money for gaming as it offered no discernible advantage over the 10600k in gaming? Please feel free to enlighten me as I'm currently looking to absorb as much information about this as possible before making my decision haha Really appreciate the way you put things into perspective there. I wasn't aware Zen 3 was a new microarchitecture as I thought it was just a refinement of Zen 2 much like how Ryzen 2000 improved upon first gen Ryzen. I guess I'll think about it longer but like I said above I'm really interested about overclocking and what offers me the best gaming potential between the two for my gaming build. I also feel like the Z490 motherboards come with more features and better power delivery than X570 but this is also a minor factor at this point in time. Apologies for my delay in replying - it's been a busy Monday haha. Appreciate the responses though!
  9. Yup, if I'm not wrong some motherboards won't even need to use a Zen 2 CPU to update the BIOS to accommodate Zen 3 if the motherboard has BIOS flashback functionality.
  10. Hey guys, I'm currently looking to build a pure gaming PC to play games such as Dota 2, Valorant, CoD WZ, BFV and Horizon Zero Dawn at 1440p at 75Hz (with looks towards getting a monitor with the same resolution but 144Hz). The PC won't be used for anything else except browsing and the odd MS Office work. I'm wondering if it's worth going Intel with their 10600K and investing into their platform (Z490) that will support Rock Lake-S and etc. or if I should stick to AM4 with a 3600 and their last wave of AM4 processors coming later this year? Not too concerned about price, more worried about performance. If I were to go Intel I would definitely look to OC to ~5 GHz and higher if I could - I know AMD has little to no headroom in OCing. I would look at pairing the CPU with a 5700XT atm that I currently own but would look to get an RTX 3070/Navi 2 in the future once the hype dies down and the prices stabilise a bit (especially supply). I also already have a pair of 3600MHz Micron E-die ballistix RAM. What do you guys think/recommend? Would preferably want to build the gaming system before the end of this month.
  11. Hey guys So I built a back-up system with the following specs Ryzen 5 3600 Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master NZXT Kraken X63 Crucial Ballistix 2x8Gb 3600 MHz EVGA P2 750W Gigabyte 5700XT Now, when I start the PC, even after clearing the CMOS, the PC goes through boot mode and sometimes will make it through or will hit a "5A" error (which in the manual refers to "CPU internal error"). I've tested with Cinebench R20 and monitored with Ryzen Master and saw nothing wrong (CPU all core speed is ~4.0 GHz, CPU temps ~66-68 degrees Celsius), the system as a whole works and when it does successfully start up it has an "AA" or "A0" code meaning everything is fine but once in a while when I do start the PC up or restart it it'll hit error code 5A - I then hit the restart button on the front IO of my P600S case and most of the time it starts up fine okay. I noticed switching to the back-up bios had better success but it still happens sometimes. And yes, I've updated the BIOS to F22 and it still happens sometimes. I've used the motherboard and the rest of the parts with a 3700X I was borrowing from a friend and no problems but as soon as I put in a 3600 this all started. Any help is appreciated.
  12. Do you know what the GPU usage spikes up to during those times? Useful to know. Could do although the B550 boards may be worth looking at with their updated power deliveries and PCIe 4.0 compatibility (if you're interested) at a lower price compared to X570 boards. If I were you I'd still wait because it's not that long until the Ryzen 4000 chips come out but if you feel like you really need to change your CPU I'd go with a 3600 as a placeholder. A 3700X makes no sense, much less a 3800X.
  13. As someone who's about to build their first modular keyboard this is exactly what I needed. Even the parts which aren't applicable to me (right now), like the DIY bits, were a very interesting read. Very insightful, great job @Eschew
  14. Also depends what resolution they're playing at which from the sounds of it they're playing at 1080p if their CPU usage is hitting 100% and the GPU isn't. Either way I'd wait. Have a feeling the 4000 chips are going to introduce a good bump in performance over the 3000 chips for a similar price to what they're selling the 3000 chips at (give or take). All speculation obviously.
  15. @Dr0y cool man I'll look into that as well, I'll compare keycaps I'm looking at to my previous keyboard (Corsair K70 Rapidfire) and take it from there. Thanks a lot for your input, didn't remember to consider keycap profiles but that's also important especially for playing MOBAs and that.
  16. Oh nice, thanks a lot for the information! This is really helpful! I had actually come across Tai-Hao and their keys looked really good. I'll happily look into the others. Thanks for sending the links to merchants, I look forward to browsing through as I'd like to find keycaps that look good and fit the theme of my build. I agree completely and want to take my time finding a nice set of keycaps. Just thought it would be helpful getting someone to point me in the right direction to get some good quality and nice looking keycaps. Thank you both for your help, much appreciated.
  17. Hey guys, So I posted a few days ago asking for suggestions for a new keyboard and mouse and was kindly pointed towards getting a Glorious gmmk keyboard and building it myself. I've since got a switch tester to see which switch I prefer and look forward to receiving that very soon. My only point of call now is a suggestion for good quality keycaps to put on my new keyboard. I've read that PBT should be a go-to and that doubleshot key caps are a bonus too. I was hoping someone could point me towards reputable brands that produce good quality keycaps - or does that not really matter, as long as it's PBT and doubleshot? Or have I missed the point entirely? This is my first time building a keyboard (never thought I'd be doing this) and am looking forward to the process (lockdown has been boring after all) so I'm open to any suggestions and recommendations. I would preferably like to have white keycaps as that goes with my black and white build although I'm, again, open to other recommendations - as long as it's not black, bored of black keycap keyboards and now that I have a choice I'd like to go for something else. Thanks!
  18. Sweet, I'm leaning more towards that if not I might just go for the G502. Sounds good, I just ordered the barebones keyboard and getting a key tester to try out the different colours. Thanks a lot for the advice and help!
  19. Just looked at the mouse and I like the look of it, I also say the G903 and liked the look of it - what do you think? That's fair enough, I liked the Cherry MX red on the Corsair K70 just didn't like too much of the clicky clack but that's not a huge deal for me. I like the look of the gmmk and the modularity of it. Would it be alright to order the pre-built with Gateron brown switches and see how I feel and then change and modify as I please? I'm looking to get something in sooner rather than later. I'm also super happy to try out other switches Gateron, Kailh, Romer-G and etc. I'm not a die-hard Cherry MX fan and am happy to try others. Let me know what you think and thanks again for your advice!
  20. Mouse doesn't have to be wireless, not sure about paying extra for just that feature but if there are good mice that are wireless and don't cost the bank then I'm all ears. Would look at having a few buttons to map some buttons on in MOBAs and grip- and hand measurement-wise I found the Corsair Harpoon to be a bit small for my hand. I haven't got a tape measure in hand but I know that the Corsair Harpoon was for 'small' hand sizes so I assume something bigger - I'm sorry I'm a bit new at the ins and outs of peripherals, just learnt today the difference between linear, tactile and clicky haha Cool, I'll have a look now. Thanks EDIT: just had a look, looks cool and didn't see before. How does this compare to the Razer Huntsman Tournament edition? Looks similar and the Razer is cheaper.
  21. Hey guys, I've decided to get a new mouse and keyboard after I gave my old Corsair Harpoon and K70 to my housemate who was in dire need of one and didn't want to buy brand new. I'm looking for a mouse and keyboard to play FPS games like CS:GO, BFV, Valorant and CoD Warzone and MOBA games - just Dota2 at the moment. My budget for both is around £200-£250 as I'm looking for something with very good performance, good building quality and will last a long time. Preferably linear but open to suggestions and not set on Cherry MX, can be others like Roller-G, Titan and etc. Do not want Corsair, just a bit tired of Corsair products and would like to try some others. I've looked at stuff like the Roccat Vulcan 120, Logitech G513 and Razer BlackWidow V2 however I am keen on a nice aluminium keyboard, plastic just doesn't look right since they made metal keyboards. In terms of mice I've looked at the Logitech G502 HERO and Razer Deathadder V2. Looking for some advice over which is better in terms of people's experience and opinion. Open to other suggestions of course. All help is appreciated. Thanks!
  22. I don't understand why there's still discussions about this cable when the manual clearly states to short circuit the two pins with a metal object (like a flat head screw driver) for 5-10 seconds whilst the PC is off and unplugged. Why don't you just try this? I've never heard of the use of cables to do this process so I'm a bit confused.
