La Belle Patate for Poutine. You can even order one with Canadian bacon and maple syrup for that stereotypical Canadian experience.

So this is a piece of tech that most people won't be able to try out, so I thought I'd do the hard yards. It's the Eizo 1:1 Square monitor - the EV2730Q. I think it's a really interesting piece of tech and would love to hear your thoughts.

@ALwin @ShadowCaptain if you haven't seen already. @Windspeed36 thought this might interest you.

Ironically the video is best viewed in 1440p on a 21:9 display. I worked really hard on the video so would like your opinion on it, as well as the monitor.

    Positives
    - Excellent quality panel, little to no backlight bleed, 10 bit IPS with great viewing angles and high colour accuracy.
    - Perfect pixel density. Same amount of pixels as a 2560*1440p display in a 26.5" square. Can be pushed to 2048*2048.
    - Good stand with tilt and height adjust.
    - Resolution is f**king awesome for productivity. Cuts down on excess whitespace you get on 16:9 and 21:9 displays - nearly every pixel is actually useable.
    - Best for video editing, audio editing, database/spreadsheet, layout design, photo viewing, web browsing, CAD, programming.....everything that's productive.
    - Motion sensor for waking up the monitor when you sit down at your desk.

    Negatives
    - Price. Though if you are making money off of your work, this is a worthy investment.
    - Speakers are terrible. Like 1W affairs with no depth. Even for monitor speakers....
    - Gaming field of view is terrible, albeit novel.

Any questions or comments, please ask. This is unusual technology to see in a "consumer" space, and it still fascinates me. Never had anything change the way I work so drastically, so quickly.

It will be fairly competitive I think. I have a Bellroy backpack which is a fair bit cheaper and high quality with some tech consideration, but nowhere near as smartly laid out and compartmentalised nor designed solely for tech carry.

My biggest problems have always been laptop/tablet sleeves in a fully loaded backpack bending a tablet (especially new iPads) when I arch my back or otherwise move funny. So I’ve switched to a tote for travel with my tablet and will probably be getting an LTT backpack once the full layout is shown.

    They have a wide mix.
The primaries are Red Weapon 8Ks and Canon C200s, but they have plenty of others as secondaries. They’ve bought 6 Blackmagic URSA 12Ks with intentions to replace the Reds, but given Blackmagics tendency for...issues...it’s unknown if that will actually happen of if they’ll just use them as backups or sell them on.

Dredgy got a reaction from thechinchinsong in Best Buy puts "Hot Items" Behind $200 Membership Fee
Actually, yes they do. The law is that the product is covered during its “reasonable lifetime”. For example if a fridge has a warranty of 2 years, but breaks after 10 years, then it is still covered under Australian Consumer law  because the reasonable expected lifetime of a fridge is 20 years plus. Manufacturers or retailers are required to replace and will usually do so the instant you mention the ACL.

A GPU or gaming console that fails after 2 or 3 years is definitely covered.

That’s not really a mistake, it has no relevance to the video. It’s just personal notes.

You can, just put some items in your cart and checkout. You will get the total value before you pay. Won’t be cheap.

I’ve not programmed in a long time, so I’ve been delving into a few new areas and brushing up on old ones.
I really want to master F#. Starting writing a GUI framework for it the other day and it’s looking super promising, though still need some real world app ideas to really delve into the pure functional stuff. Since Crash 4 isn’t coming to PC I’m probably going to develop my own corridor-style platformer. I might even do it in F#. Upgrade monitor setup to Eizo EV2730Q and some for of super ultra wide.

Samsung. Premature failure rate of products has been insane - smartphones, dumbphones, TVs, optical drives, hard drives, microwaves, air conditioners etc... So far I have had luck with their SSDs, but they’re still all well within warranty period. Asus. Their enterprise support was so bad, and ruined an enormous project, that a hurricane hitting and wiping out my business was a Godsend because it meant I had an excuse (and an insurance payout) Google. Obviously I have an account but I’m pretty reticent on using it, except for YouTube. Facebook for similar reasons.

Hence “opinion”. But I’ve watched the LTT tests - and a few others.  it shows that there is an increased performance on higher refresh rates, it doesn’t show that people in general prefer that over a super immersive experience.

    I’ll keep it tech related.
High frame rate is one of the least important things in gaming. Good colours, detail, contrast, brightness, audio solution and peripherals are much more important areas to spend money. Super Mario Galaxy is a mediocre game,

And video production is another industry that’s still largely shut down, so if they had money spent on shoots that never ended up happening or staff can’t congregate etc. There’s a lot of ways a large YouTube channel that employs multiple people could be significantly effected.
