  1. linus did it in an older build guide and i dont see a reason why it wont work
  2. watch the reviews, if you can, try them in real life. specs aint everything. a screen can be terrible but have good specs. a good keyboard also makes a huge difference
  3. windows 10 on both my laptop and pc because solidworks only runs on windows. i have lubuntu installed on my trial machine. just for messing around with linux without taking up resources on my pc.
  4. that randomness it what my fan speed is, bit annoying. its not a nice curve. jumps all over the place
  5. unplug the pc from the wall, pull out the battery on the motherboard and leave it for a minute, then plug everthing back in. most common way
  6. speedfan although it does not work the way i want it to. the official asus software for my mobo does not go up to win10 (its a p6t se) so its a bit of 20% 100% 0% 100% 20% 50%.
  7. technically yes, practically no. my pc does not want to update past the april 2018 update. never gave a propper error code until i used the media creation tool to update it. turns out its my soundcard thats bugging the startup procedure
  8. does it look like the picture? in that case the beep codes mean "The embedded controller has timed out waiting for BIOS to return from memory initialization" (user manual, page 47), you could try resetting the bios as it might still expect the old 4gb memory. according to hp, if that is the manufacturer, try the memory diagnostic tool in the bios. you could also try contacting hp about this
  9. thats about the description i was looking for for my desktop!
  10. i linked to the free home version but as this does not seem to convince you of the free-ness of nextcloud this is on the header of their github page A safe home for all your data – community-driven, free & open source, link to the free installer: https://nextcloud.com/install/. next time scroll a bit more around, wasnt that hard to find the installer
  11. those beeps are usually system specific, do you have a model number? they are also printed in the manual most of the time
  12. as you fiddled with the cpu (not shure if you took it out or not) id suggest starting with reseating the cpu in its socket.
  13. its a big mess with all kinds of random files. i did sort most programs into folders but it only takes a week or two before my freshly cleaned desktop is a mess again. as for my physical desk-top, its an even bigger mess with all kinds of random electronics bits laying around. same story when it comes to cleaning it
  14. a thanks! yea its not a 2 in 1 but a gaming laptop. no need for a tablet mode thing.
  15. there is selfhosted alternative to google drive, owncloud or nextcloud. maybe there are competitors that i know of but these are common
  16. hi all, just launched solidworks on my laptop and it gave me the message that system resources were running critically low so i went and checked taskmanager. apparantly intel needs 1.7gb of my memory to send some data to their servers... bit wheird... as for vivaldi, its basically a modified version of chrome.
  17. they look like GU10 bulbs yea. GU4 bulbs have thinner 'legs'
  18. Damn, those pcs are gonna be ripping trough spreadsheets! I hope you will be doing a local windows install and not one of those enterprise, login on every pc windows installs. They tend to be very slow. I have to agree with cereal5, have a look if the psus are not crappy/old and you should have some very fast office pcs
  19. It is indeed not on asus's qvl nor is it on gskill's qvl. It could still work tho, im running unsupported ram aswell although its a bit finnicky regarding positions in the slots. I suppose the only way to find out is try it
  20. Even with the 9700k it is worth it. That solder isnt the best
  21. Windows 10 has a build in game mode that does that but if it doest work: Either make batch files that shut down and start up all your software. Or use 2 accounts.
  22. The op says his friend has a freesync monitor so thats why vega i think
  23. Get a new psu, if never heard of kentek. They are usually fine under light load but not that great under heavy load. A bad psu does not have to go boom but can also produce a lot of ripple wich is bad for your other components
  24. a ips panel is also a led panel, it refers to the backlight. its oled that can have burn in issues if you are not careful. get ips if you can, the other option is tn wich has worse colours but is slightly faster
