Unhelpful got a reaction from Razzee in Asus will f*** you over warranty and support as soon as it can - do not buy notebooks from them
Watching Asus' fall from grace over the last 7 years has been very interest. They used to be a bit of a golden child.

AFAIK "notebook" is a pretty universal term for laptops nowadays. Historically there was a different in the terms that was mainly defined by the size of the device, but now the terms are becoming pretty interchangeable.

I'm just referring to primarily English-speaking countries. My knowledge for colloquialisms for anybody else is completely non-existent. I've never heard nobreak for a UPS.

What RAM is it exactly? They could have given you some old server RAM that won't run in a consumer PC.

Eh, this isn't the best forum for this kind of discussion. Actually, anything remotely professional isn't a good fit here, since this forum's audience is mostly targeted at people who like games is most discussions are centered about leisure activities.

    Hey,

Sorry for the delayed response! Thanks for your responses regarding UGREEN. Whenever we take on any sponsor, we always vet their products internally and evaluate them before we move forward. The products we've used in-office have been their SD card readers, cables, and Gallium Nitride chargers as those were the products sent to us for our sponsor spots and sponsored videos and found no immediate problems after months of day-to-day use.

Integrating Labs into vetting our sponsors' products is definitely something we want to explore (as long as the product vertical is something they plan on testing), but it'll take time. Until then, we've been providing evaluation samples to our broader team, and getting opinions from everyone on if certain products are worth promoting. This isn't a foolproof solution, as everyone experiences with products are different from one another, but I wanted to provide some clarification.

I'm meeting with my contact from UGREEN to see if I can get a response regarding the certification on their products and will follow up when I can.

Thanks again, we really appreciate the input!

Since you asked for people with experience in Enterprise networking, I thought I'd say that I work as a networking consultant at a fairly large MSP/VAR.

I think it is hard to give good recommendations without a visit and getting to know the company, since the recommendation will vary greatly depending on the local IT-team's experience, budget, the location, what other features are requested, and so on.
But I thought I'd throw in some contenders and my thoughts about them to hopefully give some guidance.

Ubiquiti - Personally, not a fan outside of pretty small deployments. I would not really classify them as "enterprise equipment" but rather as a brand for hobbyists and "prosumer". They got some stuff that is fantastic, like their point-to-point links are great, but for firewalls, switches, and Wi-Fi stuff it feels like they are fairly barebones in terms of features, can be a bit difficult to troubleshoot, and I haven't heard great things about their support. Two big benefits is that they are really cheap for what you get, and it seems like you already have some experience with them which helps a lot when it comes to managing it.

Cisco - I'd say Cisco is the crème de la crème when it comes to wireless. They are not perfect, and they are pretty pricey, but the C9115 has worked really well in the smaller deployments I've configured and managed. Convert one C9115 into EWC and use that as your controller. Fairly simple GUI to manage it as well compared to their old AireOS (which I hate).

Fortinet - I've only recently started working with Fortinet's access points but so far I am liking it. They require some tweaking to get working well though. The controller can be installed on a server, but I would strongly advice you get a Fortigate (their firewall product) and use that as the controller if you are going the Fortinet route. The Fortigate is a fantastic firewall. Pretty cheap too and integrates really well with the Wi-Fi. Please note that the 40F FortiGate only supports 8 APs in tunnel mode. So I would recommend getting at least a 60F. The price difference is usually not that big.

Aruba Instant On - Haven't tried it myself but I have heard lots of good things about it from colleagues. It's basically Meraki, but without the license fee. Please note that there are some limitations such as I believe 25 devices (25 APs, switches, gateways etc) per "site", and I believe a maximum of 22 VLANs. I believe Aruba implemented this limit in order to avoid large companies just buying these devices and deploying hundreds of them in large organisations. They have a different series (that do require licensing) for that type of deployment.

Meraki - Great UI. Super easy to use. Very solid performance. Horrible licensing cost and terms.

These days whenever I get asked to upgrade someone's SMB network I generally start by recommending Meraki, because I know their local IT team will like it. It's easy to use and offers great visibility for troubleshooting. But usually the customers are put off when I explain the licensing. After that, these days I then go on to recommend Fortinet. Price wise they typically end up being about the same as Meraki, but requires no licensing and the firewall is typically like 10 times as powerful (for the same price).
If they still think the price is too high, I might recommend Ubiquiti, but only if they are a smaller establishment. If I had some experience with Aruba Instant On I would probably recommend that before Ubiquiti.
Those are my go-to three tiers of recommendations.

    Most useless answer ever.

Hey man, I've got this awesome car that you should buy, it's "fast"!
Oh yeah? How fast does it go? What's the horsepower and the top speed?
Oh don't worry about it, just buy it now and you can take it to a dino or to a test-track and figure it out!

That guy asked a simple question and all you had to do was provide the weight of the bag, but apparently that was too hard for you.

People who aren't looking for heavy bags aren't going to just spend $250 (which isn't cheap for a bag btw) and find the answer after receiving it. Has it ever occurred to you that people may want to research these things before purchasing them?

The weight is relative as well. Some people aren't looking for bags over 1KG to use as their carry-on and there are plenty of bags over that weight. If you have a bag that's e.g. 1.8kg, you only have at most 5.2kg worth of stuff to fit in your bag. Whereas if you have a bag that only weighs 1kg, you get 6kg to use. That's 800g of difference and that is a significant difference. That's like fitting 3x Sony WH-1000XM4 in your bag (YES, 3 of those) and still have leftover weight to spare. This has got NOTHING to do with checking your bag weight before arriving at the airport. If the bag itself is heavy, then there's always a limit in how much leftover space/weight you can use.

If you've ever worn headphones before, especially for a long duration of time, then you'll know weight plays a big part. Small differences like 20~50G can actually be very important. A Bose QC35 II (235 grams) is considerably lighter than say an Apple Airpods Max (386 grams). Guess what, they're both "light" because they're under 500g, but there's a difference once you start wearing them. Weight is relative.

Anyway, I couldn't find the weight mentioned on their website but some guy on reddit mentioned it's 3.7 lbs, or 1.67 kg. That's actually quite heavy. This is the almost the same weight as a Nomatic Travel Pack (1.8 kg) and that bag is heavy to use when you're on an eScooter or bicycle commuting to work. People who are looking for light bags under 1.5 kg won't be able to use this.

    Relax dude.
My dislike for Framework has nothing to do with Linus. If you go through my post history you will see that I said the same thing before Linus invested in the company. Here is a post from august 2 where I compared it to HP and said it didn't seem like anything special. That was over a month before Linus invested. Pretty sure I have some post somewhere saying that I didn't think Linus should even have invested because of the conflict of interest as well as the company just not seeming like a good idea.

I could not care less about what Linus does or his involvement.

Other companies such as HP already sell mainboards for repairs. So it is nothing special.
I also think the number of enthusiasts who are going to blow a quite large sum of money and build custom things with it is very small. Far smaller than the group of people who will prematurely upgrade their laptop because it is fun to buy new stuff. The enthusiasts who want to build cool stuff can already do that with regular desktop parts.

I suspect that most mainboards and other large components sold by Framework will result in the old part being decommissioned. That they end up in a box on a shelf or in a landfill. That they won't end up in some enthusiast project.
I don't have any evidence for this, especially not since we are talking about the future, but neither do you have any evidence that most mainboards will end up being repurposed.
I hope I am wrong, because if I am right then Framework have had a negative impact on the environment. Since I think the odds are very poor I don't think it is a good idea to begin with.

    Hey all,

Thanks for letting us know with regards to Volta. I just want to confirm, we've stopped all partnerships with Volta and ended our contracted campaign for this year as a result of the poor customer service from these products. We worked with them for quite a long time and had no issues prior to this indiegogo campaign, but the recent developments caused us to take action and stopped running integrations for their products until their customer service can improve to the level of standards we expect from our partners. We'll reevaluate our partnership in the future, but as things currently stand, we won't work with them anymore until these are fixed and made right.

The bar for LTT has been getting lower and lower every year for the last 10 years or so.

Unhelpful reacted to Levent in what is the difference between docsis 3.0 and 3.1 will switching from docsis 3.0 to 3.1 lower ping?
Just because you have a 3.1 modem doesnt mean you get DOCSIS3.1 connection. DOCSIS3 is 17 years old, its no wonder manufacturers decided to upgrade their standards, its up to ISP to provide the connection.

Your mindset doesnt make any sense. If latency is extremely important, call your ISP and tell them you want to lay down your own fiber connection and you will handle all expenses, otherwise DOCSIS is terrible for latency.
You cant, they wont do anything. As I said in your billion other threads asking what would improve your latency, latency is not just up to your ISP.

You can actually squeeze a 3080 in that. The MSI is a very good PSU. A little bit cheaper than the RMx, but the fan is a tiny bit louder. As much as I love to swear by Noctua, you can do just as well for a lot cheaper to make room for the 3080.
