  1. Ooohhb, yeah. An AIO could be good. To be honest, with the low power components I'm planning to use the radiator might be sufficient even without a fan. I just took a look at AIOs but couldn't find anything that is designed for the j4125 chip (which is often embedded in small devices like an Intel NUC). I guess I would have to come up with some sort of elaborate mounting system to attach an AIO?
  2. I thought that tecs do remove heat through the flow of electrons and therefore would remove heat from a sealed box? UPDATE: yeah, just looked it to it more, and my thoughts were just wishful thinking and yes a full heatsink would still be required
  3. I was just thinking... What do you guys think of using a peltier tec cooler for this. It would be a very low wattage cpu, yes it's inefficient, but nice to be able to have it entirely enclosed in a pelican case for example?
  4. I'm not convinced it would be rugged enough for constant work on the ocean (even though it will be on an upper deck it will be very exposed...)
  5. Hmm, yeah, I like that idea of pelicase with all connectors inside and passive heat sink coming through... Definitely something I'll look in to!
  6. Thanks, I was thinking of a pelicase, just couldn't work out how to offload heat
  7. Hi all. I really want to put a PC on our dive boat to help me stream onboard CCTV cameras via OBS to Facebook live via an LTE connection. I think something based on an Intel Jxxxx style CPU would be sufficient with some quicksync hardware encoding, so power and heat wouldn't be too much. But, I'm struggling to find anything that would be suitable. Specialised industrial units either have vulnerable ports, fans or are ridiculously expensive. Ideally I'd like to find a case with a big chunk of aluminium and some chunky fins to passively cool the internals, but also need to think carefully how we would get power and networking in to the unit without these ports being vulnerable to corrosion. I just had a thought about doing the whole thing as a mineral oil pc... Do you think this could be a good barrier for the humidity and salt if I had all the ports submerged with cables permanently attached? Any other thoughts or suggestions?
  8. --------To be honest, I have used an exposure setting on my phone camera to try to make it look like I experience the problem. If anything, the issue might be presented as more prominent in these photos. With mid-greys, or even dark greys when viewing the screen in a well lit room the issue is not super noticeable. But I often edit without a whole bunch of light in my room and I noticed the original issue without hunting for it.
  9. I recently purchased a DELL XPS 15 7590 with the OLED 4K panel (16GB ram, 9750h CPU, GTX 1650) With it's premium branding and price to match I was hoping for excellent results from the OLED panel, but while looking at the dark grey interface of Adobe Premiere Pro while loading a project I noticed an un-eveness to the screen brightness. To test Laptop1, I set the desktop background to a solid color of very dark grey and sure enough the screen was not even. I contacted Dell and they agreed to replace the laptop. I made it clear that this was a very subtle issue and they should probably check the replacement laptop with a human before shipping and I got vague confirmation that this might happen. Laptop2 arrived and frustratingly it also had an issue of uneven brightness (although admittedly no as obvious as the previous model). After nearly an hour on the phone, Dell finally agreed to accept Laptop2 back for a full refund. So... Am I being too fussy? I know screens can vary, and I would have happily accepted this quality years ago or on cheaper machines today, However with the XPS line, I can't help but feel when paying for a premium laptop, and especially when paying a considerable premium for an OLED screen upgrade, that there really should be far fewer compromises when it comes to quality on a laptop with a list price of over $2000. What do you guys think?
