Hello.
About half a year ago, I bought the ultrabook Acer Swift 3, SF314-41G to be specific, which has 3500U and Radeon 540X. I coupled the soldered 4GB memory with an 8GB stick, achieving the maximum amount of 12GBs (the clock times and speeds match up). I need discrete graphics and Radeon 540X is enough for my needs. But unfortunately, there is a catch...
Up until recently, about 2 months ago, the machine started to throttle very easily, even while it's not warm to the touch. Moreover, I'm using a cooler and the laptop's fan is at max speed, using NoteBook FanControl (it never throttled before while only using a cooler and not the software). So I started to monitor the temperatures while also doing specific tests. Hitting only the dGPU with maximum load using FurMark leads to a sustained performance with just shy of the thermal limit. But when the CPU is used even a little, the temperatures go over the, for some reason very low, threshold of 65C and it throttles heavily. The machine never goes above 70 degrees.
So, my question is;
Is there a fix for these issues with this combination of CPU and GPU?
Or should I use my extensive warranty if these issues are out of ordinary and try to get a replacement? (or at least try to have them fixed)
Thank you.
Edit: I remembered about how I used to do 3D intensive works on battery, and while on the go, without any cooling and it never throttled either. I'm starting to assume that some updates broke things and the best I can do is try to get a replacement.
