Also as to the GPU thing, that something i wasn't aware that by default ESXI wouldn't allocate the gpu that's sitting in the machine right now.

I currently have a cheap gpu, since I was trying to make sure I allocated the flow towards my cpu and ram.

For the gpu i went with something cheap - Graphics Cards: NVIDIA 2GB GeForce GT 1030

What gpu do you have now? By default esxi won't use a gpu at all

Why 2012r2? Go 2019 if you going windows server. What are you trying to do with a vpn?

Why are you asking me the same question on 2 differnt threads lol lets just stay where we were pls?

That should all work on 2019 aswell.

Where are you buying keys, they should be about the same cost for offical keys, and if its for a home lab, id just use the 3 year trial then reinstall..

Are you running a vpn server? If so id look at wireguard.

I get that it would work, but I already purchased the license.  So i'm not really about to go shoot for another atm if mines is holding me down pretty good so far.  I will look towards purchasing one soon, as you said they are cheap.  I pick them them up from urcdkey.

Note: atm they don't have for 2019.

As to running a vpn server, i was going too.

But a few mins ago I learned, I don't have to bother server for that as my ubnt gateway is able to run it for me with the built in Radius server and all.

I'll take a look at wireguard, always want to learn more about whats out there.

2012 was compatible with other servers services such as plex, and a few more for what i read.

    The key was cheaper.

As to the vpn i'm currently running a project with a few buds, and i'm building an attack lab for us to learn with.

Thats gonna have lag cause that wants gpu power and Im guessing you don't have something like vgpu setup.

For video editing and that work you really need a gpu for the vm, and something like vmware horizon.

You rule!!, let me look up vmware horizon.  Check to see if I can also get an approved esxi compatible gpu to drop in it.  Currently running just one gpu, that being shared among's all the machine running atm.

I just got the R2 up last night, i'm trying to learn now setting up a vpn on it.

Ty so much for the nudge, on the troubleshooting direction.

    Most appreciated.

Can you show the lag in a video? RDP in a vm should be pretty smooth, but not as good as a local system.

I don't think its your network, rdp can fell very smooth on 100m so 10gb is more than engouh, unless there is a high ping.

What os is the vm running?

Does ssh or powershell remoting seem low latency?

For the vid, i can try gonna take some time to get one recorded but i'll do what I can.

    Ping response was really good.

    image.png.b9c1ad8770816a6c27db27a15476d00f.png

The vm is running on a 6.7 esxi host, and the vm it self is win10.

Teminal base remoting doesn't seem slow at all.

Most of the lag I witness was using application such as Adobe illustrator or others in the same suite.

One of my goals is to use the vm for video editing as well, but that was a really check when I attempted to scrub live.

    BTW!

    Thank you for responding!

  9. Hi,

I've been a huge fan of the show, specially when it comes to servers and vm's.

Currently i'm running a dedicated server for esxi 6.7, specs are on my build log:

Looking back, now i'm worried I started that on the wrong thread considering how that's going.

Well the problem i'm having, one of the vm's running win 10, updated vm tools, and wtih a setup for 2cpu at 4v-cores each.

I'm trying to use this vm, so that me and wifey can use 1 vm for our business which i hope to save $$ buy just buying 1 license for applications that we may need further down.

My current situation is that no matter how much I allocate in terms of phisical power cpu, ram.

The machine has this savage lag, regardless if i'm going in through the vmware workstation, or rdp to the vm.

The server is currently running cat 7@10gb on the cable, but i'm afraid that my problem could be that the sever can't handle the amount of data being sent out some how?

I'm a complete noob self teaching, and with massive add my biggest learning attribute has been do it break it, learn do it again.

But the stakes are getting higher, and I can't keep just nuking the machine like before.

My current troubleshooting bouncing ball is leading me, to opening the pipe on the server by installing an actual 10gb card, and then running the line to sfp port converter on the ubnt switch.

I could be really really wrong.

Hope someone could nudge me in the righ direction, if the network isn't a possible culprit.

    Thank you in advace.

Started to mofify the the looks of the rocket chat service.

Getting my css on, cant wait to jump to js.

I couldn't find the list of classes on their site, need to look again to see if it make it easier.

For now getting by using chrome to inspect.

    No photo description available.

  11. Soo.. theming this out is getting to be a learning curve, I needed an excuse to really apply my self in css.  No time like the preset.

Let the 420 gods leads me tonight.

I was saved by chrome's inspection tool, making it easier to find the classes I needed.

When things got confusing, i just asked it to let me edit it back in html to read out the class quicker "just looking for what can help, i feel like i'm cheating some how lol"

  12. Rocket.Chat setup

This should be interesting, i've never set one of these up from scratch.  don't think it should be hard, but i think it's pretty kool you can essentially host this more privately than discord.  Hell i'm sure you could chuck this on a aws server lol.  cool let's see how it rols.

If you've got room I'd suggest picking up one of these for your cloud key gen 2 https://store.ui.com/collections/accessories/products/cloud-key-g2-rack-mount-accessory.

    OMG ty for reminding me!!

When I started the rack I had brought it up to wifey about something like this, and I guess in the mix I forgot about it lol.

I think I should have space, but i'll play it safe and try to finalize the install of the new server on the rack.   Should give me a better idea oh how much space I have.

    Thank you again!

  15. Now that the sever is up, I started working on the bucket-list made from linu's show and other things i'm interested in.

Started with the move obvious, cause we have a few gamers living the same home lol.

    71694884_10215050563473861_8420411240689434624_n.jpg.5f94c28dba530f8ad1ce8d247502246e.jpg

From setting up the machine both me and my wife remote into, when doing work with application we don't feel like paying more than one license for.

    71853360_10215046983824372_7544786955154751488_n.jpg.20499dc84b7d938124111062cfdaafb1.jpg

Finally learn how to add and Iscsi the Synology box with the ESXi.  This is where the vm for the steam cache server resides, to that that the synology box is responsible for protecting it.   At best on my end now all i need to do is make sure I keep my snap shoots, and maintain the registration to the vm on the right directory.

    72046330_10215052448720991_741898730722033664_n.jpg.c2ce49d3ba014b685e75ce62c83deb8c.jpg

I started knocking services out of the Synology box, specially the plex server to move it.

Picked up some cheap key's, and other than the site being a bit buggie so far so good.

    72380050_10215043973789123_7806259221195915264_o.thumb.jpg.bcb861608e5c94ef096df368e0c008db.jpg

A couple of frineds of mines, and my self decided to learn about bug bounty and learn as a group and maybe try it to see how we enjoy it.  As well as giving us a chance to hang out and help eachother as we learn.   I hated the idea of using discord, cause honestly I just can't stand knowing i went from a privately own/ran Teamspeak server to a public server, where people come and go... Maybe is just me, but if it gives me a chance to learn something new why not.

So I went online, and found about rocketchat, and lord be-hold is a part of the ubuntu svr install, and to boot I get the wormhole all in one shot why not.

Server is up, and is working so far and i know it's not pointing out to the web.

But considering i'm not interested in the world jumping on to this thing, i was thinking of a quick and dirty solution.

    72528773_10215068189754507_6523347615092834304_n.jpg.b4fdbf30b01e3f39bae95f5beca057cb.jpg

Meet the quick and dirty solution, I hope will finish that up.

Hope fully things go well, it's for fun i'm not getting paid, and honestly I could just be on the streets doing something stupid....right?

Stay home go 420 levels, and get on the machine like a punching bag....

    Capture.JPG.125220b93eea395f640e13d67d48ede5.JPG

    All for now.

    Mtc....

  16. Ended up using this little guy, and it worked like a charm.

I threw the server on the top of the rack and ran a short line, to test the server and do some of the initial setups.
