  1. @tikker thanks. They certainly support photo libraries but I don't see the option to upload photos from a phone. This is one post i found from an old reddit thread discussing the then future removal of the feature. I'm just not sure if the feature actually did end up being removed.... given that I can't find it in the app i suspect it has been but if you know otherwise then that would be great!
  2. I am building a plex server for our family to replace our older one which houses our films and TV collection. In the new server we are hoping to bring together the photos from all of the family mobile devices (4+ iphones and 1 Samsung android). The phones all use icould or google photos for backups. I was planning to use plex photo backup/photo upload in addition so that a copy of the photos would be accessible to everyone via plex. However, i have seen a couple of posts around suggesting that this feature has been removed. Does anyone know if this is true? What alternatives are you using?
  3. No, as @SquintyG33Rs says, its likely windows will not boot much faster than this. I guess you could try a very lightweight linux distro which may boot even faster but i'm not experienced with that
  4. It is certainly one of the faster drives around. How long is it taking to boot. I'd be surprised if it was above 20-30s
  5. your PC looks pretty modern. how to upgrade would depend on what you are doing with the computer that is not working how you would like. using an ssd is good for boot times. if you want to improve boot times further i would look at what software is starting up with your machine and streamline that.
  6. I have the k70 lux with brown switches. The build quality is good on these which i particularly like. Which switches you like will of course be a matter of personal preference. I find that browns are much nicer than reds for typing which may also be good for programming. It can be difficult given current conditions but my best advice would be to try and get to a pc store and have a play around with different options.
  7. I'm looking for a motherboard for my i7 8700k with a budget around £150 (can increase a bit if needed). I'll be taking components from my prebuilt system to make a pc with better options for future upgrades + to learn a bit as well. The motherboard needs to have: USB C header - thinking of getting the Fractal Define 7 case Wifi - would be nicer not to install an additional card for that At least 1 NVME drive space 4 ram slots Ideally ATX RGB would be a bonus. The rest of the system: 8700k Nvdia gtx1060 6gb 16gb ram (will eventually increase to 32gb) 500gb NVME drive 2TB HDD 4TB HDD I've seen the Aorus z390 pro wifi but it's quite expensive. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!
  8. Thanks, I’ll try looking at some of these
  9. Hi all, My pc occiasionaly becomes unresponsive for a few seconds with a strange sound form the speakers. kind of like audio from a slo mo video maybe or when a CD has scratches in it? Previously the system would sort itself out and then be back to normal within 5 to 10 seconds but recently it shuts down very quickly before restating, as though the power has been cut. this happens apparently at random during gaming or light load such as internet browsing. The system is a prebuilt lenovo t730, although its way out of warranty (Specs below). If anyone has any ideas/ similar experience then please let me know! CPU: i7 8700k GPU: GTX 1060 6GB Ram: 16gb Corsair Vengence LPX PSU: lenovo 550w Motherboard: lenovo Storage: 1x256gb nvme (boot drive) 1x 2tb HDD 1x 4tb HDD So far i have tried: - checked all cables are fully connected - bios and all drivers are up to date - removed the custom fan curve for gpu set in afterburner - monitored temps, all normal max at around 75-85C under load and this doesnt coincide with times when the issue occurs
  10. have you ever booted the system succesfully? have you changed anything that might have caused this? do you get a post code? (either a pattern of beeps or a light/display on the mobo)
  11. looks like your graphics card doesnt have the 6 pin cable plugged in, from the top pic
  12. changing the setting did indeed fix the problem. Although, ive changed it back as i prefer a quieter system
  13. It looks like your school has updated its policies to force anyone on its system to keep up to date. I’d ask your it department about it, they may have not thought about students home systems when implementing. Alternatively buy a windows key online and separate from your school system to gain full control again.
  14. Also have you tried using a different output port?
  15. Tried checking for loose connections elsewehere? Power to monitor/display connection seem likely
  16. May also be worth checking your wifi cards driver is up to date
  17. thanks @rares495 think ill probably just keep them running full time then
  18. You can test if its your network connection by playing a few games against bots or the training area in rocket league while offline.
  19. you can buy rain covers from outdoor shops which have elastic and will fit most bags. just get one of those and put over any laptop bag you like the look of. Will be much cheaper
  20. Hi all, I've been noticing that when i open file explorer i am greeted with a wait of a few seconds and a 'working on it' message before my folders and files show up. During this time i can hear my hard drives spin up so I imagine those are powered down when not in use. I'm curious as to why there is a delay when i can't access anything at all though since windows and most frequently used apps/files are stored on a 500gb NVME drive? surely these should be available instantly with the other drives ready shortly after? has anyone else experienced similar? my storage setup: 500gb samsung nmve drive (C:) 2tb seagate baracuda 7200rpm (D: and E:) 4tb Seagate Ironwolf 5900rpm (P:)
  21. Are you able to get into the windows screens before installing? If so use that to format the drive and create a new partition through the installer
  22. If you have a spare drive around I would be tempted to try a fresh install of windows. It’s possible an update didn’t go right and corrupted some settings
  23. Those programs aren't too difficult for most modern laptops so you should be fine with anything. Id again recommend the dell xps but the lenovo you mention will also do well for that application. You could also look at a macbook if you had one before and liked it... i currently use the macbook pro 13 inch for similar programs, with vmware fusion for windows apps.
  24. what are you going to be using the laptop for? - given the models on your list im assuming general school work with the ability to play games in the evening? Ive previously owned lenovo gaming laptops (Y900 and Y910) and found them to run extremely hot/loud and break quickly. Id have a look at the dell xps. Additionally, if you dont need the powerful pc to be mobile, consider building or buying a desktop pc as well as a cheap laptop for school. You may get better performance overall from using €1000-1200 on a desktop setup and then €300-500 on a budget laptop. This option gives you easy upgradability in the desktop without the compromises attatched to gaming laptops. you'd also get more battery life from a budget, non gaming laptop
