MeshFile reacted to Razor512 in Best Router of 2015-2016 for gaming?
For device backups, the the best router I have seen so far is the netgear ones, especially their eSATA supported ones. Mainly because of their readyshare vault software (insanely easy to use incremental backups).

As for monitoring your local network, the ISP supplied often can pull some local network details, for example, the verizon fios supplied router shows them how many devices are on your network (they essentially get the MAC address). As far as I know, they do not monitor the LAN side communications (it would have too much of a performance hit, and offloading it would completely saturate the WAN.

Anyway, for a router, ignore any claims of "gaming". For WAN side performance, your experience is determined by how many concurrent connections the router can handle (for many modern ones, it is in the 30,000 connection range), the WAN to LAN, and LAN to WAN throughput, and QOS performance for when you need to use QOS (if your WAN connection is regularly saturated). http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/view

If you look at many reviews, you will no longer see any LAN to LAN benchmarks because for many years now, even the cheapest switches have been able to achieve the full gigabit throughput.

If you do not need QOS, and are using a wired connection, you will not be able to tell the difference between a $30 router, and a $400 router, unless you had a 500mbit+ internet connection.

If you need good WiFi performance, that is where you start to notice a difference. http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/bar/119-5-ghz-profile-dn

Higher quality transceivers are able to maintain their speed over a longer range, and when a router maker cheaps out on their RF hardware while charging a steep price premium, it shows when the speeds across the attenuation range is averaged.

    http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/charts/router/bar/77-max-simul-conn

In all of the various tests, you will also see that all of the routers with "gaming" in their name, end up costing more and delivering less performance.
just like with "gaming" headsets, the gamer tax hits all products equally as hard.

here is one of the latest to come out. http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/32945-trendnet-tew-827dru-ac2600-streamboost-wifi-gaming-router-with-mu-mimo-reviewed

Not all people will understand how collecting metadata on large number of individuals can lead to. They won't need the actual content in order to infer what you're doing with all the massive metadata they're collecting.

Some people will just scoff off the topic as "It's not identifiable information anyway" and "I got nothing to hide/not doing anything illegal". Its what the companies and governments hoping for so they've got obedient subjects to exploit.

All wireless devices provisioned and their BYOD are all N devices. Even if there's a few BYOD devices that are AC capable, they're likely just 1x1 client.

After looking into the price of the AC unit, not much difference. I might get 1 out of 5 or 7 but not of a priority.

@babadoctor is just trolling you. If other devices on the same network can get internet, the fix is not unplugging the router and waiting for 1hour - 24 hours. First of all, that is only if you want to renew the WAN IP (Internet IP) of your router; not the local IP of the affected computer.

Good practice is troubleshooting using the OSI model and starting from the physical layer, data link, ... application. Of course there are exceptions.

@willbradbury: Do the following and check the IP after each one to see if it is getting an IP from your router's DHCP server.
Use other known working Ethernet cable Use other Ethernet port on the router/switch. Setup static IP on the computer and use other devices' IP address as reference; check if it can get online.

Just do the old trick of replacing osk(dot)exe to cmd(dot)exe via booting to the install (any-even windows 2000) disk's repair install so you get system credentials. You can then just do net user administrator newpass. It will render encrypted files from user unusable though.

MeshFile reacted to Volbet in Men In Feminism: No Thanks!
Ok, so I tried reading through the article to find a source for the ´Men will naturally degrade women´ part and I couldn't find it. Actually, the article doesn't mention that at all. Which I guess is a good thing, since the article doesn't link it's sources either.
But it a very intersting read. The justifications, that Karen Ingala Smith comes with to exclude men from the feminist movement, are pretty similar to the justifications given to keep men out of politics in Kerala back in the days. They both excuse this with men being naturally suppressive and violent towards other individual. Apperantly it's OK to treat other people like second class citzens as long as someone you share a chromosome pair with has been treated the same way in the past.
    Also this
Not entirly true. While woman are the main victimes of sexual violence, the rate of domenstic violence is about the same. Both men and women are being physically abused by their intimate partners. Atleast that what the CDC has to say on the matter http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/nisvs_report2010-a.pdf
And why should I take a responsibilty for "my violence"? I have never been violent towards anyone in my entire life, be they male or female. I have also never felt an urge to be violent towards anyone. I also can't take responsibility for something other people do. If someone punches someone else in the face, that is on them to take responsibility for. i can't be sorry on other people's behalf.

What are the best software you've used for doing macro that came with your input devices (keyboards, keypads, mouse)? You've may used it for automating work, doing those perfect timing attacks, or just beating the anti-afk check on a game. Share your experience with it.
With the software I've used, best one is Razer Synapse 2.0 since you can record keyboard inputs while you're on that window. LGS from Logitech sucks ass since you're forced to enter the keyboard inputs on their interface and re-testing it over and over until you've got it just right. It also doesn't have an option to force all delays to use the same values.
The downside of Synapse is when selecting the recorded key-press, you can't use the Del key on your keyboard to delete that entry forcing you to click on the 'delete'/'trash' icon manually while LGS has that feature. Razer and Logitech should check each other's software.

It's all about support and warranty. A school won't have dedicated personnel for dealing hardware issues on large numbers of PCs. You need to offload that to someone and best way is where you got those computers.
One method we got is we are given the purpose of the PCs, we give out hardware specifications like what processors are on the minimum, GPU, HDD, etc and a third party assembles those and we just buy those from them in bulk. All the support goes through them so we focus on little things like network configuration, etc while hardware defects gets reported and replaced ASAP.
