Robi_g got a reaction from da na in Experiences with non-techies
A friend's grandparents went into a restaurant that had free WiFi. They thought it was the house special and tried to order it as their meal.

Robi_g got a reaction from da na in Experiences with non-techies
I've remembered another one, someone told me once that they had Crysis maxed out over 3 1080p monitors at 60fps with only 2 550ti's

Robi_g got a reaction from da na in Experiences with non-techies
I had a friend who asked me how much memory my PC had, so I replied 8GB. His reply was "Wow that's shit, my x-box has 60GB". He couldn't get the difference between RAM and Hard drive space, no matter how much explaining I tried to do.
-------
I had another friend who added up his clockspeeds per core to get a total, was the world's biggest AMD fanboy and didn't get that processor performance isn't solely reliant on clockspeed. For example "AMD is so much better than intel, the i5 only has 4 cores at 3.4Ghz which is 13.6Ghz, but my 8 core (it was the FX8120) turbos to 4Ghz which is 32Ghz and it costs less too.

If you download a dodgy version with no EULA then you are not bound by the terms of the EULA

Robi_g got a reaction from kokakolia in Bringing your own mechanical keyboard to school
I used to bring my own mouse to school but that was only because the onees in the 6th form common room were either broken or missing.
Wouldn't bring my own keyboard though, it would be noisier, take up bag space, you'd get a million and one people asking about it and eventually it would get broken from someone sitting on it by accident (no really) or it just being moved around all the time.

Robi_g got a reaction from Hackentosher in Reflow Oven Build Log
I built my own reflow oven, and thought that my experience might help others looking to do the same.
Attached is a brief build log and design explanation, along with a link to the code running on the oven.
Pricing is also included, I always find it annoying when other build guides don't give a guide to the price of things. It should give people an idea of what it's going to cost before they get started, and shows the mistakes I made that cost me extra.

Robi_g reacted to Unimportant in How Does PWM Work?
Fair enough, but I'm sure you realize exploiting the diode's avalanche breakdown requires careful engineering to make sure the diode can handle the avalanche energy, etc... That's possibly an ever trickier rabbit hole

Robi_g got a reaction from Roll_Like_Rollo in Experiences with non-techies
In maths the other week the teacher couldn't work out why the projector wasn't getting a signal from the PC.
Turns out they'd plugged in both outputs (a VGA and DVI) from the PC into one monitor and the projector wasn't connected at all.

Robi_g reacted to QueenDemetria in bring back the like option Y/N
Nah, "Like" doesn't really mean anything really, its just an updoot. Saying Agree/Informative/Funny/Friendly/Good Point pretty much covers what most people pressed "Like" for.

As someone who lived in a flat that had a shower that was constantly blocked up with people's hair, I can confirm that it's normal.

It reading through this that makes me understand why there are so many bad laws out there concerning the internet. There's a large portion of people who just don't get it.

Robi_g reacted to minibois in Video Release Schedule
I quote Nick Light from another thread:
Usually they post around 30 minutes ago. But sometimes not (for example Vessel doesn't have a new video now I think) and sometimes products are under NDA (meaning they can't be shown until a certain time)

Robi_g reacted to Notional in ASETEK – Court confirms judgement, increases damages award and issues injunction
Asetek holds the American patents on this technology. Companies can file for patents all over the world. Their geographical location (usually) doesn't mean anything.
Literally not a patent troll (which isn't properly defined and therefor kinda useless). Asetek is filing and holding these patents for exactly what they were made for. Asetek made a brilliant product no one had done before. After launch everyone and their mother started making copies of it. That is exactly what patents are made to avoid. Nothing wrong with that what so ever.
Here's a picture of the CM unit and the Asetek unit:
They are literally interchangeable. Asetek is not patent trolling but defending their innovation as any responsible company should. There's no monopoly og patent trolling here.
