  1. Not really. Only I'd you're using a 2080 To at 1080p. In all other cases, the CPU vendor is irrelevant
  2. I mean, try to tell him that brand bias is a poor mentality and that judging current products by something he heard 20 years ago is foolish at best. But I'd you're stuck on intel, get a 10600K and beefy cooling.
  3. The issue is not whether the GPU will cope but whether the laptop will live that long. Most only last 2-3 years
  4. Depends on the games. I CSGo and Fortnite you'll get 150-200 frames. In Warzone you're looking at 50-60
  5. Neither. Either wait for Zen 3 ina month or get a 3700X. Pretty much the same performance as a 10700K with half the heat/power draw and a much cheaper board and CPU combo.
  6. Consider the Ryzen 4000 alternatives and specs of the machines you're interested in. The 4800H runs much cooler and faster than the 10875H while also being cheaper.
  7. I seriously doubt anyone dealing original batteries is going to tell you to overload them and start a house fire.
  8. Do that and contact the laptop OEM to buy an original battery. An unbalanced battery (where the cells are not perfectly balanced) can quickly catch fire and even explode. Always be very careful when buying used batteries as they can quite literally kill you
  9. At best it won't work. At worst it'll destroy the laptop Return the battery and report the seller for fraud.
  10. Welp, I double checked and I do remember correctly, there appears to be some boosting problems and load distribution when doing single core workloads on Lakefield. This could potentially work well for web browsing and volume production but it has serious implications for gaming and single-thread-sensitive workloads.
  11. If you arent video editing, the A15s screen is fine. Also, only the 2060 model overheats. The 1650 and 1660 models are okay. I'd you want more than a 1650, this is your option. You are right to be looking at Ryzen 4000. The 4600H is faster than the i7 10750H and the i5s are much slower, to the point where they should be ignored. For models, the HP Omen 15, Asus Zephyrus G14, Acer Nitro 5 and Legion 5 are all great. Pick whichever one of them you prefer. The Asus A15 with a 1650/1650 is also decent.
  12. Looks good. You can get a Dark Rock Slim as well, the 3600 is very easy to cool
  13. I fully expect this to be broken on the OS and firmware scheduling side like Zen was in 2017. Intel need heavy duty commitment to make this works DN have to do some very careful management as, if a critical process gets assigned to a little core under heavy workloads, this could produce massive stutter in applications such as editing, games, photography and etc. It will be interesting to see it play out
  14. Avoid crappy QLC drives. A Crucial MX500 is thre same price and better. You can get a B550 Strix or TuF. The Strix should cost the same for better quality and features while the TuF should be cheaper The power supply is not something to skimp on. Get a Be Quiet Pure Power Gold or SeaSonic Core GM or Corsair TXM. The 2060S doesn't make sense. New cards are coming out in a month from both AMD and Nvidia and the existing 5700 XT coats the same and is much faster
  15. Lenovo Legion 5 or Acer Nitro 5 with a Ryzen 5 4600H If you need a color accurate display, the HP Envy x360 or Asus ZenBook 14 with a Ryzen 7 4700U
  16. Thr boost clock on mobile Pentiums and Celeron models is called "Burst clock" (am not making it up) because it's hardwired to only reach it for a few seconds before returning to vase. Google the latest N----- whatever model. You'll see what I mean. Mobile low end is also not on 14+++++ but on older revisions and uses the worst died from every revision. So they seem a lot better on paper but in practice, my sister's company junked over 600 brand new laptops with them because they couldn't handle Chrome + Outlook at the same time and the company moved to T series ThinkPad models
  17. Keep in mind, low power mobile Celerons are a far cry from low power desktop Celerons. Same for Pentiums. The mobile N series models and even U series are EXTREMELY slow. I'm not eve joking when I say it's usually slower than a mid range ARM CPU. If these Zen models can hold boost clock at 2GHz, I am expecting over 20% better performance than the best mobile Pentiums
  18. Bas for a PC? Yes For starting a fire? This is great!
  19. It's not as good as the MBP obviously but I have used a T460 and found the trackpad perfectly fine. It's Windows precision i believe and has solid tracking as well as lots of tuning options. I never got used to the trackpoint myself but you also have that. But yeah, these days windows trackpads are decent. It's not like in 2010 whereby the difference between Apple and Windows was massive. These days, yeah, the MBPs are nicer, but for the vast majority of people the average Windows trqckpad is also fine. The only exception is the ones using Synaptics drivers. Those are camcerous
  20. 8GB single channel memory with a mediocre i7. What do you expect?
  21. That's the entire reason 4GB systems are unusable these days. 8GB is the minimum for everything, even office systems. 16-32GB is the recommended spec for 2020
  22. Both. The 2060 is just a notch too much. The 1660 Ti model should top out at 85 and the 1640 Ti tops out at 80 even with the limited airflow
  23. The G14 is excellent and one of the best laptops for 2020. Highly recommended.
