Marbo got a reaction from IkeaGnome in Think my GPU has messed the bed (hopefully solved)
@IkeaGnome was going to say you're not going to believe this, but you probably will.

I've reinstalled the 3090 and as hard as I try I can't recreate the issue, it seems to be working fine. I'd previously removed and reinstalled the card and updated drivers (after ddu) and it still crashed. Now no issues I've loaded up the vram to 17GB and it just works.

I'll stress test it for a few hours and see what happens.

Thank you for your time helping.

Marbo reacted to Dedayog in does anyone know any good tech tool kits
Did you just say sponsored Youtubers stand by them?

Really, any PC tool kit works fine.  Not sure how brainwashed you all are, but you don't need Dewalt or Milwaukee or SnapOn tools to build a PC, and you definitely don't need a full iFixIt kit (they're not exactly cheap to start out with) .  Literally a butter knife or a swiss army knife (as we've actually seen) does the job.

Chinese, Taiwanese, Russian, Canadian, American, etc... all work fine.

If you want to invest in a nice toolkit, do so.  Never a bad thing.  Do you need one?  Absolutely not.

The 500 Fermi series was decent! I'm actually using the GTX 580 in my current system while waiting on 3000 series stock!

I think we have to accept that anytime we're online someone somewhere is logging our details. As stated what's the point of paying someone to do it.

The only use I see for vpn is as others have pointed out, to bypass geographical restrictions. Then it doesn't always work, for example bbc iplayer won't work even if I have the vpn set to somewhere in the UK.

I think I created a post on this once but last year my dad found his first computer, the Osborne 1. It was the first commercially successful portable microcomputer, and when I say 'portable' and 'microcomputer' I mean it's nearly the size of an ATX Mid-tower. Back when my dad got this in 1982 it cost nearly $3,000cad. With inflation, this computer is $7k+ in today's money.

The OS floppy disk is missing though so it won't boot up but we are keeping this relic around.

Found this under a load of crusty thermal paste.

Put back reapplied paste, changed the unusual size cmos battery. My Ast fired up into Windows 95,after a little tinkering in the bios.

Marbo got a reaction from Tristerin in Ram usage close to limit. SOLVED
Basically it can only use the gpu to render if it will fit into vram, so it wouldn't speed things up.

The system ram is mostly used by the app and unrendered scene in it.

So really any extra ram is used for other things while this all going on.

Edit: if the gpu is using 6.5 to the the max 8gb while rendering then the app will be using around 12 to 13gb system memory.
